Cutting, tooling and stitching took roughly 8 hours the braiding on the other hand took me roughly 5 days to do. So honestly I would say roughly between 50 to 60 hours total The hand stitching was easy the braiding was a pain in the ass but I enjoyed the hell out of it
Made this a while a go and I don't remember if I shared this with the forum or not. This is all hand done, from stitching to pieces together to the tooling and lacing. Took half a hide of garment leather and 250 feet of suede lace to do it! First time of doing a gouche style lacing on the back and side seams did a Mexican round all the way around. Lot more pics here https://imgur.com/gallery/xJLvz Forgot to mention this was the very first time ever of me trying something like a waistcoat/vest of any kind I like the way it turned out and its warm in the fall
Yep I may use my go to and that is aussie leather condinter for that seems to really help with the moisture problem again thanks for the great pic and that looks really cool
Great responses everyone a huge help. I had originally thought to use glue but I thought that A: that would look bad B: figured it would be hard to get glue to stick to the glass. Kiwican thanks perfect for what i want. Now as for the businesses idea pretty simple and an excuse to use my leather scraps is a simple businessof selling Australia air...yep thats right moonshine air with a bit of leather craft selling it more as a novelty item
Storage...something along this line https://www.ballmason.com.au/cases-of-jars/wide-mouth-jars/4-x-ball-collection-elite-blue-jars-wide-mouth-pint
once I figure out how to wrap the jars I will share what my crazy and stupid idea business wise is lol
I am wraping the leather on the outside of said jar or wanting to at any rate, and hmm making a removable jacket of sorts might be an interesting idea!!
Just a quick question whats the best way to wrap a mason jar with a bit of leather so the leather actually stays in place? Have a stupid yet maybe profitable store idea
Sort of when I have to do lettering (which gawd how I hate!) I select a print type that I like from word, print it out, adjust the size a bit if needed, trace it on to the leather then either use a stylis or modelling spoon to get the depth right
Typical really for Mexican round lace, not sure if I posted my waistcoat here or not but that took 250 feet of sueade lace to do that one!! And thanks
Thanks took me a little longer then I would have liked to damn damned interruptions in the holiday times!!
This is a bible cover that I made for my niece in law for a Christmas/birthday gift made from 6 oz veg tanned leather everything is done, Mexican round braid all the way around the edges, took 40 feet of roo lace to do it.
I really like this and feel for you on the lacing. My first vest/waist coat took around 250 to 270 feet of lace as i did all edges in mexican round braid!!
After the fourth time of sliding the ice pick from hell...er um awl...under my thumb nail...the last one went past the bed of the nail into the first joint i threw the damn thing in the trash and I flat refuse to use those evil things!!!! Will stick to a fid and my hole chisles!!! Not to meantion the neighbor kids do not need to learn more "colourful" words from their yankee nieghbor!!!!
