  1. I have rolled an edge working with my kizer pocket knife. It is vg 10 and it was visible. Cleaned right up though. Way better than a chip.
  2. JLS leather had some free ones on his site. If you do a search, there are lots of patterns in this site. What are you wanting to make? Welcome aboard
  3. Great job are they machine stitched?
  4. I remember you sent me a pic of it when I bought the bevel knife from you. With these three and my rotary cutter, I haven't needed anything else. Although one of those bigger head knives could come in handy....
  5. Ordering from the site is new. Last time I ordered everything was done over the phone. I remember them having a policy about not closing out invoices for 2 or 3 days. This helped with people calling back and wanting to change their order. I'm not a big shot either, but they were nice to me and took good care of my small order. They are really great to deal with. Just give them a call.
  6. @Sanch I never let it get too technical.
  7. I like what @fredk said. Make her something that will last, and just add faux accents. Then she can enjoy it for a good long while.
  8. Stohlman does drawings in his books. I can't remember why, but he explains why in that book. He has eight pages dedicated to the round knife. Terry's knife you should only need to strop. I haven't had to sharpen it yet. And, I've had hit for over a year and a half. Terry offered me the same refund policy. I told him he would have to pry it out of my cold dead hand.
  9. When stropping a convex edge, the more the stropping material dips down the more it will push your cutting edge away from center. Too much pressure and the edge can actually roll over on to the other side of the blade. I have never had this happen. I use really light pressure when stropping. Pretty much just the weight of the blade. This is what I was talking about way up top about sharpening getting really technical really quick.
  10. Wrap the Leatherman in Saran wrap. Cut a piece of leather larger than you need. Get a block of wood. Now case the leather. Put the Leatherman on the wood and tack the leather tightly around the tool. Let it dry. Laminate it to your back piece. Finish cutting it out and stitch it up.
  11. It's not going to take much to keep it closed. I think it will be fine. As we learn more, we upgrade our wallets. I'm on my second now, and the first one is far from worn out. This is my second wallet.
  12. That is really pretty.
  13. That's a nice looking awl.
  14. I believe goodsjapan has a lot of fillegree style punches. Sharp punches would give cleaner holes. Even just the punches you already have may help remove the bulk from behind the tiny cut. When you remove leather from the center area of the hole, it makes room for the leather to move into along the edges as you make your cut. This will relieve a little pressure from the cut. Does that make sense? Maybe even strop that exacto blade. Sounds silly, but when I was still using a box cutter I found stropping the blade makes for a much cleaner cut. On something so tiny I wouldn't worry about burnishing so much. Oh, and it looks spectacular. Great job.
  15. Yeah, you will need to hot stamp it. I have never done it. So, make sure and do a test piece first. That will help you work out the temperature setting for the particular leather that you are using.
  16. @Wedgetail I could sand it down. But then it would only be about 1/32 deep. It'll be easier to just get another one.
  17. I have a pair with rubber soles from Walmart. They fit great. I thought when I got them I would use them for a pattern. But now they just stink like all Walmart shoes.
  18. All the rules aren't always true with every kind of leather. While there are generally rules for dealing with leather of this type or that type, they don't always apply to every tannage falling under that name. Again, I was kind of guessing about the leather being an oiley. I'm not sure that it is. If it is, that doesn't necessarily mean it won't take a burnish. All leather is just so different each other. Hopefully, someone with more experience than me will chime in.
  19. Yayyyyyyyy!!! I WIN!!!
  20. Really looks great. Wicked pattern. Are the photos long and skinny on everybody's screen?
