  1. The design is quite similar to the piece in my avatar! Nice work. I still have mine, not sure what to do with it. Doesn't have a snap or a belt loop. Maybe I'll put those on there and put it to use some how! YinTx
  2. Wow, that's a huge piece, was not expecting that! Fantastic work. And thanks for the pointers for anyone making something similar. YinTx
  3. Thank you! Good luck with putting together your videos. I have part 3 filmed, but still need to take the time to sit down and properly edit it. YinTx
  4. For wrapping a binding around a seam as you are stitching. YinTx
  5. Thank you all for the previous comments and suggestions. I hope you will be able to notice that I have been able to implement a few of them, and will try to add more suggestions as I progress. Still open to comments and suggestions! YinTx
  6. Thanks. Part 2 is out. I don't claim to be an expert, just another guy doing things a tad differently. YinTx
  7. Figure carving, floral carving, basket weaving, coloring, so many skills and techniques in a single piece of work! Fantastic! YinTx
  8. Nice! I keep thinking if I did this it would not look anything like the original design, because I'd be all perfectionist on it and rework the pattern to get the lines "right", and tool it all different, then be upset it doesn't look anything like it did in the movie, lol. YinTx
  9. I'll try to find a decent one... Headset does have a move-able microphone, has a little foam piece also, but really not top quality, and prolly 15+ years old. I'll be looking for a new one... until then I'll try to get it to work better. That is top notch advice, right there, lol! I did mention ever so fast that the tracing was covered in tape... but yah, if someone missed it they'd be learning the hard way. Regarding all the details you suggest bringing into the information portion of a video, I like it. If I find that there is a lot of desire for that kind of knowledge going forward, I'll start to include it. At first I am afraid of putting so much in there that it becomes a 5 hour video that no one wants to see, and then the risk that there is so little info that again, no one wants to see it! I have started a video on just tools, that way I can refer to it as I am going and not have to discuss knives each time I do a carving, etc. I hope that works well, time will tell. YinTx
  10. Yeah, I hope I'm not that slow! But he does have over 18,000 views on a 5+ hour video... YinTx
  11. waaaaaiiittt a minute there. I resemble both comments! Prolly talk to slow, and watch all those youtube videos at 2x whenever I can! Hard to know what is difficult or intricate to others, but if I find it important I tend to do some voiceover to explain what happened. I think with time I may discover more and more what folks want to see more of. Or less of! Perhaps undeserving, but thank you much! YinTx
  12. I do appreciate it. I'll work my way through the kinks more and more as I go along, just thought I'd give it a go and see how it goes for me. I'll consider all the suggestions and add them in wherever I can. I've already done some more video work, so I won't be able to add in everything right away, but with time I think they'll continue to improve. You are right about keeping folks attention! the analytics show where folks drop off, and when they stay on. Very interesting thing to look at. YinTx
  13. Heheh yeah, I'll probably be asking myself both of those questions, and regret the can of worms myself. I may only ever do this one series, I may do many, just depends on the reception. I think part of it is to give leatherworkers a different take, my antiquing process and tooling is a bit different I think. Also, to give my work a bit more of a wider audience, very few folks see what I do or how it is done. Even friends that know me don't know really what I am doing. YinTx
  14. Yes, many hours for me. In fact, probably 8 hours trying to figure it all out for each video. I expect to get much faster as I move along. I'll try to even out the music volume some. Thanks for the compliment! YinTx
  15. Thank you. I tried to keep it as short as I could, will focus more on that for the next ones. I may make separate videos for casing solution, we'll see. Just water does work, btw! The painters tape will stick some to cased leather, but not wet leather. I usually put it on afterwards, it gets more aggressive after tooling, so you have to work a bit to get it off. It will come off easier than regular tape for sure tho. YinTx
  16. @billybopp, thank you for the suggestion. I will look for something of that nature. I don't really have a microphone, so I may look for something better along that line also, just using an old headset I have. I thought about putting a clock when I first started, but realized that I have a lot of interruptions during the work, so the time would not be very representative. I may get a timer, presuming I actually remember to turn it on and off! Thanks for the feedback and suggestions! YinTx
  17. Thanks for the comment. I don't think this is very advanced, but in the end it may be a bit more than beginner. I think if someone wants advanced, then paying for a course from someone like Jim Linnell will help more than my videos. If you've never done it, you will get some clues watching what I have put together. If you have done it before, you will see maybe a different way. This part 1 video is short, I am trying to keep them under 7 minutes, not sure how it will go as I progress. This just means I have to create multiple videos to get through the whole project, so as not to have a 1 hour video. I am in the progress of editing part 2, carving the pattern, and it is about the same length. After that will be tooling, then dye work. I am surprised at how much time goes into making a decent video, especially if you are learning that process at the same time! YinTx
  18. Appreciate that! Can't take credit for the canned music, I took after me mum and can only play the floor. Maybe the triangle around high noon. I really debated doing this series as there are so many leather working videos out there, but I feel that my presentation and some of my processes are a bit different, so might be worth it if someone learns something new. Also, I wanted my customers that might not normally go looking for this type of video to see what goes into the goods I produce. To that end, I may make more time lapse videos, time will tell! YinTx
  19. Wow, thank you kindly! YinTx
  20. I am making a purse using a Don Gonzales pattern, and showing how I do it, which is likely very different from how many others do. Here is part 1: I tried to implement some of the suggestions from everyone on my last video, and remain open to suggestions on improvement. I still need to work out things like attractive thumbnails. YinTx
  21. Will start a new topic, but next video, starting a series. Tried to implement some of the suggestions, still need to work out how to do some of the others. For now, leaning towards other leather workers as an audience. Still open to feedback! YinTx
  22. Came out pretty good! What did you do to get it to this point? YinTx
  23. Agree, it does match the look, and keeps the labor input down. Don't mind my grumpy input. YinTx
  24. Fiebings dye reducer if I recall is denatured alcohol. It or isopropyl work, I have used both. However, I must say it may not be you, it could just be the leather. I had this issue with some of the import leathers I had, so I tend to use specific brands now. If you still have the issue after all the suggestions, recognize it may be the quality of the hide.
