The welt should be included in the planning stages. It doesn't have to be very thick or wide and since its not a fold over sheath I would have made the welt the full length around the blade..if that makes sense

I dont know much about making them but more wet forming and molding would have helped out

As for Tandy, well if it wasn't for their videos i would never have tracked down a Tandy store an got myself a starter kit and embarked on, what has been for me a very much life altering experience. Yup the people in that Tandy store were sales people and not gifted leather workers like some of the people here and since that day I have found a few other places that equal or are less than what they charge and the staffed with folks whom I call leather gods due to their knowledge and willingness to share knowledge but i do owe Tandy for putting me on the path

Thats a really good question. I dont actually have an answer for you and can only talk from my experiences and what i think would stand to reason. I have a mason jar holder that see a lot of action, it gets used daily for tea and water etc. It gets wet and beat up, the edges seem to last quite a while but i do reslick them every few months. My key chain takes more of a beating and i do that every few months as well. I never had the expectation that the slicking would last a life time, after all how could it?
