Belt with decorative holes
MADMAX22 replied to HannahT's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
10-12oz WC bridle leather is pretty strong stuff. Unless she is carrying concealed or has a bunch of stuff to hang off it for work I wouldnt worry to much about punching some holes as long as they are smaller (not half the width of the belt or something like that). Now cutting out a half circle on the edge I would be leery of on a belt, that would really affect it because you would have a spot where it transfers all the stress to the bottom half of the belt basically. -

Belt Holes
MADMAX22 replied to Dunluce's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I usually dont stitch the folded belt together, I use chicago type screws on mine. I do thin out the fold some also so it is easier to fold over and to cut down on that fold thickness some. Also I meant to say 7-8oz keeper, got 8-10oz stuck in my head for some reason. Still pretty thick. -

Belt Holes
MADMAX22 replied to Dunluce's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
For a 8-10oz belt I will use about 5-6oz keeper. For double layer belts that are 14oz or thicker I use a thicker keeper usually 8-10oz. I try to keep them at 1/2" width. -
Sewing Machine for Leather Baby Slippers - Need Help
MADMAX22 replied to GabD05's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
My guess those are all sewed flat. The uppers are stitched flat then turned over and the top and bottom are stitched together (inside out) then it is turned back right side out. Something like that. Basically I dont think ya need a cylinder arm, just a good pattern. -
Looking at the ISMACs it looks more like the 31-28 or one of the 31-28 thru 31-30s. The 31-28 was for boot tops and such and had the tensioner in the proper position.

That is a nice find. Looks intact from the pics. Welcome to the forum.

Ive got a 31-15 and it will handle the thin stuff just fine.Ya see alot of them doing nice detail work with alot of curves and what not are being used. I have gotta get mine set up for sewing wallet liners (gotta get another servo motor). They are beefier then the regular domestics or should I say bigger with a little bigger parts. Not by much. How much are you looking to spend? Deals pop up on CL from time to time you just gotta be patient and quick to respond.

A guy on ebay had a W serial number machine listed with date of manufacture. I asked him how he determined the date and he said there were some list of W serial numbers out there that were not destroyed. Ofcourse when I asked if he could share the info he never responded Thanks for the list Jimi.

Not out of town but we had a bunch of bad weather over the weekend which delayed everything coming this way. Thought it was quick enough IMHO. It arrived in one unmolested piece which is the important part. Ya never know when those delivery guys are gonna have a friendly hockey game in the shipping warehouse.

What are your thoughts on separating the Arm
MADMAX22 replied to Evo160K's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Great video Bob, safety now a days would be losing there mind lol. As far as the temp cure question this was kind of interesting http://www.inthewoodshop.com/ToolRestorations/ColdCureJapanning.html There are lots of infos on the internet for this stuff. -
Well it is kind of depressing as usual with old things that were nice but not taken care of. Looking at the 31-15 it was actually in good shape until it was neglected. Pretty sure it had low usage but got stored very improperly. The singer 101 which seems actually kind of rare somewhat is in good shape and works fine. The pfaff 145 I think was also originally in pretty good shape until it was left outside. Ahh well. The pfaff had the needle bar, and both presser feet bars stuck, got two of them loose and am in the process of taking it apart. Got some apple cider vinegar and salt to start getting rid of rust on the parts. Luckily the bobbin was prewound so no dissimilar metal corrosion on that guy. Gonna have to take the whole thing apart though. Probably get it all apart and clean all the parts then evaluate what I would have to replace. Wish there was a manual with stock measurements to be able to determine the wear and tear on various components.

Goes to show how much I get out from under the boulder. -
Thanks Brian, Got it soaking with some penetrant right now. Looking like it will be a parts machine depending on how much time I have to play with it. Post some pics tomorrow.

So saw a 31-15 for $25 and decided to go get it (craigslist find), its in rough shape but figured would be a good parts machine for the nice one I have. Anyhow got to looking at another one the gentlemen had a singer model 101 thats in decent/good shape so ended up grabbing that also (still not sure what I wanna do with that little guy) and when we were loading them in the truck he said he had an old Pfaff that he was taking to the junk yard and asked if I wanted it. Being the sucker I am I said sure, now I have a somewhat rusty seized up 145 H3 in my garage. Some stuff doesnt look too bad but other stuff is rough, it basically got left out in the rain once or twice and well ya get the picture. So are the price of parts prohibitive to trying to fix these up? I know there are lots of variables on this (Ill post some pics later). If it was say a singer or consew or juki with lots of cheaper/interchangeable parts it would be easier. Your thoughts appreciated.
