  1. Have you taken a look at this thread http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=16609 Further down the thread Hidepounder (Bob) gives a good explanation on how he does his. I use a similer method but modified and I do it by hand since I dont have a real workshop lol. Your case does look good though. One question for ya, do you cover your pvc yourself or do you pick it up lined. I would be interested in knowing of someplace that supplies them lined like that.
  2. That is very nice looking, would love to see a few pics a little closer. Looks like it took some time for sure.
  3. Yeah sorry, rubbing alcohol. I use it to clean stuff. I use the denatured alcohol for thinning my dyes. Works great. Probably work great for cleaning as well.
  4. Jeeperaz link for the resin supplyer has it on sale for $5 1lb. Thats half price if anyone is thinking of picking some up.
  5. The only time I have smoothed suede is for edging and I use some bees wax then burnish and it smooths out pretty good. I know on a few projects I have gotten sno seal on it and that portion lays down some. May try something like picards, snoseal, bees natural lp. Something like that may take alot of the fluffy out of the suede. As Jim stated alot of use will eventually rub the top layer off and make it pretty smooth. Speaking of that you may try on some scraps taking fine sand paper to it then burnishing it like Jim mentioned. May do the trick.
  6. I think Johnbarton is the guy to crituqe cue cases. Not sure if he has been on lately though. Construction looks great from what I can see. One thing I would look into is finishing the edges. A good burnished edge looks more pro imo and just nicer overall. Have you thought about getting into carving at all? It could be the next step in adding to them. As far as stamping try mixing stuff up and see what looks good. I think stamping looks better in designing a border more then anything else but thats just personal preference.
  7. Thats way cool. Excellent job.
  8. Alcohol will work just fine, pick up the 99% from safeway or similer.
  9. That is some great looking work. Love the patterns you have going on. That color is very nice as well. Good job.
  10. Those look excellent. Very nice style you have.
  11. Yep ditch the wallet even if it isnt that thick. Same thing while driving and so on whenever your sitting for some time. One thing I recommend is get a stool or chair that is adjustable in height so you can change the height accordingly. Kind of like a barber has a adjustable work table which is a little hard for us to do. Oh and do some stretches before you work, sounds funny but stretch your back muscles for a good 10 minutes before you start working, will help with blood flow and loosen your muscles up a bit.
  12. Hit Kevin up for some of that herman oak stuff that he has for like 4.79 ft. That stuff rocks, I just got into the side I picked up and man I really like working with this leather.
  13. Looks great, and pictures take time to master as well. I still have a heck of a time with them. Im sure Steve will love em.
  14. Looking good. You got any more pics by chance.
  15. Looking forward to the finished product. That seat looks great so far its gonna end up making the bike jealouse lol.
  16. Did you make his pm box bigger lol. I commented on the other thread and must say it is a great tutorial, and very useful. That is one of the great things about this forum is the wealth of knowledge everyone shares here.
  17. I could be way off as Im not good at determing what causes stuff with leather alot of the time but it looks like you could be beveling when the leather is still a little to wet. Take a piece of your leather your using and case it like you would, cut a line with the swivel knife and bevel that line, enough to get a good example, then let it dry some more, come back and repeat. Do this a few times as the leather dries and see if it improves your beveling. If you find a spot where it seems to smooth out easier then you know you found the right dampness to tool it. I know when I first started I allways started tooling to early. The leather would mound up on the edges of the beveler and was a pain to lay down because there was too much water in the leather. I gradually learned to hold off longer till I started and it made a world of difference. Good leather helps too Letters look really good though.
  18. So I need to replace the rubber portion on the bottom of the heel of my boots. I wanna do this before it gets into the leather portion of the heel. I have some double H boots and on the bottom of the heel is a rubber layer then it goes into multiple layers of leather that make up the heel of the boot. Anyone know where I can order a set to replace these. Alos they look like they are glued and nailed on, I assume thats all I would have to do to replace them, pull the old ones, put new on and shape them properly.
  19. WOW smart kid and lucky too. Atleast it wasnt more then some damage to the car. Glad I wasnt in that house when you woke her up lol.
  20. Thanks a bunch for posting this and taking the time to do it. Excellent tutorial.
  21. Antisocial facebiter, sounds scary lol. Well my suggestion is find out what you want to carry and design it appropriatly. Its hard to suggest what to make it around as everyone will be different. Not a bag guy myself but one thing I hear alot of is make sure that it is easy to get into. Think about what you will use the most and design these into the outer portion of the bag or the quicker to reach areas, while things you dont need so much can be buried farther in the bag. Oh and make sure you make a nice comfy strap, this makes all the world of difference when carrying a decent amount of stuff, a padded portion that can move along the strap is very nice and will make it far more comfy. Have fun and be sure to post pics when you get done.
  22. Customers will be customers. Picky guys and gals thats for sure. However that is very nice looking and if they dont like it dont feel bad as you did a very good job. What SPI did you usel. That stitching looks really good and really small lol. You did an excellent job over all.
  23. Excellent looking job. Looks like it will be very useful. I think alot of people replace the strap with nylon as it stretches less. Its up to you though,
  24. You can order it online from Joanns, they stopped carring it in the store but still available online.
  25. That is way cool. Definately gonna look good when worn.
