  1. Theres some of this stuff at the place I work and when I saw it I thought it would be good. I use an oak board I made with a poly cutting board on it and a couple pieces of scrap leather on top of that when i use my chisels.
  2. I ended up making an order from springfield after I called them. I didn't know but they will cut any square foot you want for $10/sqft and split it for you too if it will fit in their splitter. Their website has square foot pieces listed for $18ish so I had almost ruled them out, I'm really glad I called. I've never worked with chromexcel before so I'm pretty excited.
  3. This topic is very interesting to me as I just launched my website. I'm considering doing pay to click. Unfortunately I haven't stocked a lot of products yet because I'm waiting for a leather order and the ones I have I'm selling cheaper than I want to because I haven't established a base... Etsy hasn't worked for me so far either. I've had my stuff up for over a week and not one sale unfortunately with something like 6 views a day from etsy... I also think etsy is a niche thing, I just got it at first so when I advertised there was a way for people to actually make a purchase. I'm hoping with a professional looking site I can attract customers and it will be easier to market. link: stevensonleatherco.ca
  4. Hey guys, I was emailed this by Shelly at Tannery Row, the included chart didnt quite transfer: Wicket and Craig is looking pretty attractive, not only are their prices very fair ($13 vs $8.94), as Monica said they will split the leather to any size which is perfect for what I need because splitters are so damn expensive....Im strongly considering picking up a side of english bridle for my next projects... hmmmmmmm
  5. I'm gonna give them a call this week I realllllly want some burgundy chromexcel I can only dream they will be nearly as good as the tannery, if so I will be very pleased!
  6. Awesome thanks tossik.
  7. i think you may need a thin file or try wrapping some sand paper around a thin piece of wood
  8. Yeah but I'm only making small goods like wallets and accessories so I'll be able to work around imperfections pretty easy I think
  9. Nope sorry, @cmdachong is who I have on instagram and it appears he does business through email (snowlets@sina.com) as REN also mentioned and you pay through paypal. Has anyone bought any of these tools they can maybe review/tell us about? Maybe we can get a list of the tools and prices.
  10. Thanks guys. It seems like to get a decent price ill have to go through maverick for the time being, they're even half the price of Springfield. 5.50/ft and $10/ft Anyone know if they will split the leather for you?
  11. Does anyone have and experience with them? Is there a minimum order? wait time? and how much do they charge per sq.foot?
  12. Oh hey I got my most recent batch of tiger thread from your etsy store, thanks!
  13. I have one of these guys in instagram but he sells through email and paypal. Has there been any more info on these? like a website or something
  14. I wanted to try a new type of wallet today so I made a few of these. They're so minimalist the top of the wallet aligns with the top of the cards and almost makes a perfect square chunk. I like em.
  15. Sorry, bad internet double posted the topic.
  16. Not sure if anyone mentioned this but rocky mountain leather supply sells this tool: http://www.rmleathersupply.com/products/electric-edging-tool
  17. When I stitch the way Ian Atkinson does in that video I do find that I am getting angled stitches on both sides. However the angle is not as great and I find that on one side my stitches are very high and sit at the top of the hole making a big gap under them.
  18. I just ordered a few chisels from leathercrafttools.com, anyone know how long EMS shipping usually takes to north america?
  19. Sorry for the double post but I've come to the conclusion that these are excellent little bastards, not only do they look fantastic but an entire set for $21 is unbelievable. They become wider farther up the teeth so the harder you tap them the bigger the marks become, now I don't have any problems...the only downside was the shipping from china took about a month.
  20. My awl is an osborne 1-1/4 i believe
  21. Yeah, I was looking for pricking irons when I purchased them and they work alright. My concern is that they seem very small. even the line they mark is only 1/2 the size of my awl blade.
  22. Thanks, I've actually watched all of Nigels videos haha. He does cover the pro line diamond chisel but the ones I've bought were advertised as new pro line european pricking irons - they mark the stitching lines instead of punching diamond shaped holes. Heres a picture of them: http://imgur.com/oVOAzZ1 Amazon page: http://www.amazon.com/NuoYa001-Pro-Line-Pro-Stitch-Leather-Piercing/dp/B00LKUWN5O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1428473075&sr=8-1&keywords=pro+line+nuoya
  23. I just recieved my first set of pricking irons: the pro line european pricking iron from a seller on amazon and they're much smaller than expected. Anyone else have experience with these? my pointer finger is longer than the length of the chisel, is that normal?
  24. These are really beautiful, makes me wish I had some extra cash laying around
  25. The belt looks to be very well done, great job! However I just don't see a big market for tooled works like that in the general public, I can't really see someone on the street wearing something like that. You might have better luck advertising it as a display piece or like nick said - to cowboy folks (who probably don't shop on etsy). Just my thoughts, good luck.
