How would any of us survive without our 'odds and ends' drawer.

Funnily enough, I had just finished watching this, and was about to upload it. You beat me to it. Nicely put together bit of kit.

Handling a heated stamp
LumpenDoodle2 replied to bristolbrandedleatherco's topic in How Do I Do That?
Pliars are good for hot stamps, especially those smaller pliars. You could always invest in one of those silicone oven gloves. They are meant to be more 'handy' than the heavier oven gloves. -
Well done on getting your hand on that piece, and what a good price! To me, the bigger the piece of granite you can practically manage, the better.

40W Chinese Laser - Engrave and Cut Leather - Discuss
LumpenDoodle2 replied to Billy Hell's topic in 3D Printers and Lasers
Agree, from what I've read, this is the best way to get a better edge. My little 5w laser is at its best run fast, and multiple passes. -
Seems to be a lack of good training, and the fact that you can have as little as 2 weeks training if you join some police departments. Possibly because previous military training is considered as 'replacement' for police training. I read something the other day about the police system in America where they pointed out that most training was concerned with 'point and shoot', so for a number of police (not all, I've seen some good police calmly taking carp from 'citizens' out to just abuse and bate those officers) the first reaction is to go for the gun. Watched one of those reality tv progs (Son of a gun?), where the cheif of police ordered some sort of off road vehicle, with a couple of machine guns fitted on it. Maybe spending a bit of that money on training would be better. Good training, and weed out the bad apples. Lumpen has spoken..........

Safety beveler vs a spokeshave

I use one of those black safety skivers most of the time. I bought a little planer to use, but never took to it, so went back to the skiver. I also have a Japanese knife skiver which is quite nice to use. -
Lordy, who has the energy for shenanigans nowadays, unless a Women!s Weekly is involved (homage to much missed Victoria Wood). As to the possibility of cross dressing, this is Scotland, the land of good, sensible, industrial grade underwear. Cumfy knickers, de regour.

Major advantage of a Tippman Boss, is the space saving, and it's so simple to work on. The disadvantage is it need one hand to operate, but you soon adapt yourself to it. I have a Juki LS341 for sewing belts, an old Joy upholstery flatbed for webbing, and canvas, and the Boss handles anything too thick for them. I find it a bit of hard work for sewing anything too big, but it's paid for itself for sewing the odd over thick leathe strap or holster fitting, and doesn't get in the way when not in use. -
I've got one of those, took years to train him out of those bad habits, but going back to the wonderful single life was very tempting. As to divorce, the first hubby was welcome to the lot, which wasn't much, just happy to leave him to it. Junk mail? Tedious waste of a tree. Unsolicited phone calls selling me stuff? Old ARP whistle kept by phone if they get too persistant, or immediate 'go to' if they are trying to sell double glazing/insulation. One question though. Even if all the socks are black, how come there is still an odd sock when emptying the washing machine?

(small queue forming here for the stool................)

May I interject here. You can, if pushed, use an 'egg' spoon. These are specially designed for eating your runny egg and soldiers. But they can be used for coffee, just don't let the egg police see you. As to socks, my free time is too precious for sock matching. The husband's socks are also black, so that even he can manage to match them up.

Many thanks, the hubby has been after something like this for something he has been working on.

To also put it into perspective. I bought a lovely old late 1800's domestic Singer sewing machine cabinet. It cost me £45. There was a very old, very worn Singer 15K crammed into it. I junked the machine, because no-one I knew wanted to take it away, and it was free. If I thought I could have got $300+ for it, I would have done it up, and sold it. Buying your first leather sewing machine can be accompanied by a steep learning curve. Not helped, as Wizcrafts points out, by sellers who either know nowt, or will swear blind that their 'heavy duty semi industrial Singer 99K machine will sew 3/4" veg tan all day. You did the right thing, and checked here first. -
Just had a google. Taobao is available in english, if you go through toaboafocus.com.

I like Danguman, his vids are always worth a squint at. Another way to get the elements, plates, etc, if you want a larger press (and I'm sure I said this in another thread), is to check out the old hot foil presses, like the DUT 21, and strip them for parts. These machines are pretty cheap nowadays. Mine cost £10, and about 140 mile round trip, but we did have a good blether, coffee, and biccies, before I headed home. From what I can see, the machines you are after, hold their value a bit better. That would leave you with just finding a more suitable press mechanism for the leather, and adding the donor parts. Certainly, old drill presses with goosed motors do turn up here, so maybe haunting the odd car boot sale, or a request on your equivelent of freecycle, could get you what you need.

Go on..... you can do it. The kitchen is the place where the smell of food comes from............. Strange isn't it, they can be heading for retirement, and still maintain the social and domestic skills of a 3 year old teenager.

Well done for getting that stool with it. The stools are quite sought after, and the 29K8 looks lovely.

I'd love more details on your grinder. Oh, and the table looks great (and the 'helping hand').

The scalloped edges certainly set the whole thing off very well.

I have a 2nd hand Chinese hot foil press, which is quite a dinky little thing, but I use it for promotional leather key fobs. Basic, but it does the job. The workspace is pretty small, but ok. I also have an old DUT hot foil printer, but sadly, at the moment I just don't have the space to do anything with it, so it's lingering in my storage hut.
