  1. if not, one of the long Stohlman books that Tandy sells gives a good demonstration on how to. Walk in your local store and gander a bit! I'll see if I have a doodle page on it.
  2. I have a finish set I recreated off a photograph of a set in a French Museum and was thinking the same thing. Though my set is missing the top cap because I don't have that view off the picture, so I guess I would be excited to hear what other say? Basically, I have the inner and outer sides. Thanks for posting the question.
  3. I tried to find you one after not seeing one in my block. Sorry, but looks like Al will take care of you. Side note: Al, do you mind posting an impression on a piece of leather? Thanks.
  4. Awesome knife!
  5. Nice job! Send it over to Tandy HQ and see if they are interested in using it for a Craftaid?
  6. Klonix Welcome to the forum and greetings from Central Texas, USA. Have an extra stein one day this month coming up for me! Thanks for sharing your knife and remember use the search button to see other sheath projects presented on here for ideas! Don't forget to post pictures of your completed sheath and Ocktoberfest! Enjoy!
  7. I use quilt quarters from JoAnns,Hobby Lobby or Hancock Fabrics. I found them one day when I was out with the wife. If you take a look at my logo, it has a skull with cross bones......I have been very lucky at JoAnns in find skulls and such in variety of colors. I believe I pay......a buck or something like that ? The also carry in the kids section (why?) different bandanas.....you name it they have it. I have found some cool flame and skull one there. The also have a clearance bin of those quilt quarters. I do bid you one caution, now before anyone jumps on me, I will post a disclaimer. When using fabric, be aware that if the ends do not get glued all of the way to the end, you may get some fraying. This store has anti-fray stuff, but I have not had any good luck with it. I know another crafter that has...so just be aware of the potential for this problem. Good luck
  8. (in the blind) ~ Thanks for picking up on that for me.
  9. At least someone was LOL.....PM's are flowing....mad like.
  10. I would probably switch 'mutt' and 'customs'and have the letters read on the inside instead of the outside. Make sense? Other than that, it looks awesome!
  11. Gotta a request from a purdy young thing to make a traveling journal. God bless her she still writes down her thoughts and not on computer or text. Anyways, she saw some of my stuff on my facebook and wanted to know if I could make a nice leather journal cover. So I asked a few questions to help my non-artistic brain start working. Loves flower especially Texas flowers Loves the colors gold, silver, pink and green for money really likes the natural finish leather with any full dye jobs Something simple, but not over done! I was assume carving wise and food related. She loves shopping and buy big A purses. She usually carries 2 or 3 purses with her when I see her at work.....don't ask me why?? She loves her kids and husband in that order! So, I was thinking about using the floral system that is on my advatar picture, but on the opposite side. I have decided only on one corner or two; opposite sides? Then I thought would it be cool to draw up a simple rose, leaves and a couple of buds and dye them to represent the 'Yellow Rose of Texas' theme? I would dye them, my budding at DFC Studios because I have proven that I cannot paint the side of the house let alone a piece of leather. Danny is the same guy who painted Big Papa Leather's Hippo project! Then I could filigree and put a gold piece of chrome tan behind it?? I think I will stitch it because lacing will take away from the simplistic beauty of it......unless.........I use natural roo lace and as the twins on Transformers say......'lets blend in." Hmmm As for the over all pattern, I would like to use an old Day Planner idea with a wrap around flap and a single snap? I believe Hidepounder did one up like this and post a picture recently.....I will have to look and maybe ask for his blessing to use his idea. On the inside flap, there will be a sewn in window for a small picture of her men in her life? or maybe just the boys? I was considering having Ms. Brenda at Laser Gift Creations, burn an image of her boys laughing or something on inside cover?? There will be room for a pencial or pen. I will be making her wrapped in leather to match the journal. On the outside back since she is going to be using this journal to document her vacation and work trips away from home, I have a friend to writes music in East Texas. He can write and say poetry on the fly! I might have him write something up for her and have it lasered on the back? That would be way cool. Anyways, I am still re-thinking everything right now.....not quite sure what the end product will be, but I am sure she will like it alot! Did I get any ideas flowing in your mind? Send a reply! I am open. She is excited about this journal. I received 5 emails today alone between talking with Spinner and Dustin29. I should have a step by step play posted on my blog and FB. Stay tune!
  12. I was killing time in line at Starbucks this morning and since I don't get the full forum setting on my Itouch, I had to go line through line...I sure have missed a lot of posts. I am sorry, wish I would have noticed it earlier.....well worth bumping it up.
  13. Isn't this exciting!!!! What a fire storm Spinner has created! Way to go......sharing is caring........hold on, I have to ask the wife to slap the (s) out of me and get that social worker talk out.Peace
  14. Wow.....what a simple but great idea...or you can flip it over and hit it and a nice floral center for a gun lover....hhmmm, I have the ones without primer when I worked on the range? Again....great idea thanks!
  15. Safety skiver I use for everything! I have one in my lacing bag to skive my ends for the needle or when glueing ends together. Cheap and worth it.
  16. Ms. KaylaWelcome to the forum. Nice intro......by reading it, you don't seem like a 'cut and dry' story. Wow!Thanks for joining us here.....great pictures and nice work! Don't feel intimidated! You do nice braiding......I cannot make a knot that stays, so there, you got one up on me! Thanks for Grandpa for the reference.Greetings from Central Texas!
  17. I agree with Aggiebraider....I ordered my last hides from Stevenson Paxton for $99 a hide. I did a jumbo order for several of us guild members and have been extremely happy! Of course, I am able to speak with the salesperson and give them details as to what I use it for. My last side, I needed a more medium temper side and was able to commuicate it with the salesperson and got what I needed.I have said before on here that I have ordered HO leather from two other suppliers on here and paid way more. The leather, well it truly sucked! Both orders were returned and finally gave up and just used it....lesson learned. One of our saddle & boot makers that happens to be a W/C lover. She swears by it and using nothing else. I tried some out at her shop and found it too soft for me. I went right through it with my tooling. Now, I don't make heavy ounce projects, so please understand that I was not intentionally do it.She has also had problems with Weaver lately? I don't know what it is? I don't run a business and don't order from Weaver so I cannot tell you anything from personal experience. I would call them and return it sending them a sample of your troubles for a refund!Good luck!
  18. True that! That is why I like to order from members on this forum! It is not a guarantee, but close to it. I have yet to be burned by anyone on here and hopefully vice versa. So, if anyone makes this roo lace and wants to sell......speak up! You might have two new customers. Enjoy your day
