  1. Just a quicky I finished today for someone.
  2. This is the piece on which the case for my Super Shears is based. Only I dyed the backgraound an laced it up.It has a deerskine suede lining to protect the glasses. The only problem is the black is that new EcoFlow California safe dye. It may require another coat or two. Guess I am going to have to drive to Las Vegas or something and smuggle the good stuff back across the boarder.

    Grange Fair Time

Those are just great. Well I guess you can say that you are out of the slump. Blue ribbon on top of it all!!
  4. Really like getting into doing birds again. You really need to think about the tools to use and the approach to the coloring. This one will be acrylics. A combo of washes and more opaque colors.
  5. OH YA! If I was going to be a chopper seat then that would be the one to be. Beautifully carveed and wonderfully laced and ...oh ya...kept nice and warm on those long rides! As Jimmy Durante used to say...Hachacha!
  6. Glad you liked it! Hope everyone else does too!
  7. Beautiful work! Nice carve and color!!!

    My other passion

I know what you mean about having a creative outlet. I used to do what you are doing with the Vectors for a living and now that I got laid off I rely on my leather to give me my creative outlet. You do some serious work and you should be paid for it. Beautiful stuff!!!!!
  9. I like it. Now that you have it down pet it is time to create it out of hand tooled leather. I used to have a Morris Minor truck with a very similar cover on the back! You do good work!!!!
  10. OK! Here we go! Nothing like a bird skull! HA!
  11. I never knew Captain Jack had a beagle!?! Very nice work!!! Let's see some more. Arghhh! Thems that dies will be them that misses out!
  12. I like it Tim! You know what they say about getting to the Grand Ole Opry.....you got to practice...practice...and practice some more! Thickness rather depends on the quality of the leather and how pliable it is and so forth. I have a wallet in my back pocket that I made 15 years ago and she's still strong. Maybe she's not as pretty as she used to be but the same applies to my ex-wife. LOL! The thicker the leather the more life you are likely to get form the piece.
  13. I think this looks great. Beautiful work. I might suggest that the next on incorporate like tome sort of padding as an extra added protection for the computer.
  14. I made the pattern from a sketch based on a photograph. Hmmmm Bird Skeleton!?!?! We shall see what we shall see!
  15. This was inspired by a young bird photographer from New South Wales. He is only 17 years old and already a photographic Audubon! Can't do skulls all of the time!!! When I used to live in Darwin up in the Northern Territory I carved beer and wine coolers and colored them. My big sellers were always local birds and parrots.
  16. I am a big ink fan. I love what some people can do. Right now my favorite is Corey Miller who is also from Southern California. He can do color and also Black and Grey but his work is totally sick. Doing the leather and tattooing have a lot of similarities. When you are creating a tattoo transfer and making a line pattern for a leather carve it is literally the same thing. And your working on one hide or another
  17. Sometimes I get the ideas from my own skull, as it were and sometimes I might see something that I like and modify it for the carving I want to do. I found this drawing that looked like it might have been worked up for a Black and Grey tattoo. Then I modified it and created a tracing pattern and went to carving!! Patterns can be very much like sheet music every musician and or conductor has their own take on the music and in that way we find the diversity of our world.
  18. Very Cool! Rat Fink is a good one to go with. Big Daddy Roth would be proud.
  19. Just lay them down. Don't have a full on shop and so I have cases with materials and supplies that I open when I need something.
  20. Very Nice Stuff. Hate to see what you are going to come up with next! LOL!Clean and tight. Love the lacing. Great stuff!
  21. Very cool idea for a belt. The leather is probably cowhide embossed to resemble buffalo hide. It all rather depends on how much you paid for the leather and where you purchased it. If you got it for a reasonable price like in a Tandy shop it would probably be embossed. The real deal would be a bit more pricey. For a first attempt I think you did a super job. It gives off a fun feeling!
  22. I was working on something else similar to this and it dawned on me that it would serve two purposes. I have had my latest pair of Super Shears for over 18 years and sad to say but the original yellow box is about to fall apart. So I tested out a new idea on a piece of leather and it worked out. I used my scanner so the image maynot be the best but...not too bad.
  23. Very nice piece! It really has that inspired by tattos look! Nice one!!! Can't wait to see some of you bike seats.
  24. Very sweet job. I was on a site recently and they were asking $750 a pop for motorcycle seats. Yours were every bit as good as theirs. Saw one on American Chopper a few days ago and it was not as good as it should have been.
  25. Thinking about color and maybe an antique.
