Though to be fair to our current day the problem of watering down, adulterating, etc, has always been a huge issue and was much worse in certain era's because of the lack of standards and testing. Read what they used to do to coffee to make an extra buck. -

Beautiful work! Makes me want to do one for my helmet... I guess I should check with the chief to see if we are allowed to do black out shields. If you don't mind sharing what finish do you use for these? I would like to make some but am unsure of what finish would be tough enough. Oh and your lettering template is genius! Why the heck didn't I think of that sooner? Thanks!

For pure black Fiebings Pro Oil should work. I believe any acrylic paint will work for the red area as long as you have a topcoat finish. http://springfieldleather.com/ has a great selection of products. Thanks guys! Yeah I kind of held my breath when they fit it. :-) Any good quality veg tan leather will work nicely in the 4-6 range. I think this leather is 5/6.

My latest, and most complex, tooled cover to date. Really happy with how the Roma Shoulders from Tandy tooled. I am still brand new to this craft and it was my first time using a premium leather and tooling something this complex. Sorry, no pictures with the bible inserted. This was made based on specifications given as it was to be gifted and turned out to be an exact fit *whew*

Nice work! And thank you for burnishing the edges, even though its a simple project let's dress it up and make it look nice! It bugs me when I see expensive leather items going out with raw edges.
