  1. I have know idea - but it sure is a beauty - plain but stylish!
  2. I just wanted to let everyone who was thinking about dabbling with the Vinagroon (alternate Black dye) to wear gloves. I finished a project today and figured since it was just made from Vinegar and rust I would not need gloves (sadly mistaken) and now may fingers and thumbs have a dirty grey color to them that won't wash off. Please don't assume like I did - wear gloves when working with this stuff - it is still a dye.
  3. I love them! I think they look great. Nice design. Well thought out and laid out too. Kudos.
  4. I am sorry, and feel for you after all your hard work completing your project. However your story struck me as a kind of funny. Do you have pictures of your leather marble? I am not trying to be smart, just have never seen leather shrink to marble size and think it would be interesting to see.
  5. Just bought a stingray skin; looks cool and very durable. My question is; what is the most effective method for inlaying this into a project (knife sheath/holster)? Mainly hand-stitching leather projects at this time, drilling or punching holes in my leather. Please advise.
  6. Looks Great!! Where did you happen to get your stingray for this sort of project??
  7. Very nice stuff... Thanks Rawhide.
  8. Hey John. Looks like I found you... Tag, you're it!

  9. I just took possession (won on Ebay) of an old Disston USA overstitch tool. Does anyone know anything about this tool? I've googled it and from what I can tell they mainly made Saw's. It is nice and I got it for a very decent amount. It has three stitching wheels total, and the extra's are kept inside the handle (screws off - wood threads) and has size 7, 8, and 10 wheels. If anyone can tell me the history of this tool - it would be greatly appreciated.
  10. Thank you for your valuable information. It's appreciated very much.
  11. When I do my belt edges I dye the edges the same color as the belts (after rounding them), then wax them up and use your drill press deal to burnish the edges. Atom wax works ok, but I think a combination (50/50) of beeswax and household wax works better. I've not done too many belts since, only small projects, but the results are favorable, so far.
  12. Thanks for the info... I did not wash nor burn my 0000 steel wool, before putting it into the vinegar. My garage is semi - heated. It stays pretty warm all year around and is about 68-70 degrees right now. Does the steel wool actually disinegrate? I've been shaking the milk jug every couple days; and I did notice that the hole I poked in the lid (blue) has a black spot now, possibly from my shaking??
  13. I am wondering if I am making my Vinegeroon correctly; I had some 0000 Steel wool in the garage, rinsed out empty milk jug, poured white vineger into the jug till it was 3/4 full, then dumped a rusty nail, some steel pipe (small piece) and 3 deals of the steel wool into the jug. I poked a hole into the lid of the milk jug (venting) and it's mainly been sitting in the garage. I don't see anything happening; it's not really turning color. The wool isn't rusting and it's been about one week now. Am I doing the right thing here; or should I be using apple cidar vineger instead of the white I used? What am I doing wrong? Can someone help me out?
  14. I too have purchased some linen thread (nuetral) that I use to sew my projects together with and do the same thing another person has said. I soak my thread (enough to sew the project) in the same color dye as I dye my project with, then I let dry, then wax my thread just prior to sewing. Hope that helps.
  15. Hey, what do you know? I'm from Austin, MN about forty five miles west of you. I just wanted you to know your helmet is awesome!!! Have you thought about doing a Vikings Helmet out of leather? I know a guy here that is into the renaisance fair stuff too and makes lots of stuff; haven't seem him do any helmets yet though. Take Care, GO VIKINGS.
  16. Hey Pard, Could you post a clearer picture than the one you have posted; can't really see what you're talking about. I think your info is great; just need to see what you're talking about.
  17. What is the concoction to use when utilizing the baking soda? and how is it used (dipped, soaked, etc.)? For how long?
  18. I just made my first wet formed gun holster this past weekend and am looking for a good "REAL Bone" tool that is bigger than what I am using now - a polished antler tip. Can anyone help me find one for this type use? Vikefan64
  19. I replied earlier telling you to check ebay...anyway here's a picture of the setMy link I got (got two different one's actually) and I like this one best. Hope this helps.
  20. I bought a set off ebay. Basically a nice little set for very little money (to my thinking). Had a steel handle, with different size bag punch deals that threaded to the handle. Can't remember who I purchased it from but it works for what I'm doing with it anyway.
