The 11w151 wouldn't be to bad of a machine for leather as itll sew to 5/16"thick & with the needlefeed it can pull it through.The 111w or alittle better than the 211 because they have a larger heavier handwheel. There are some feet available for them too like a zipper foot with the toe on the left or right & also a foot w/a nylon bottom that helps the leather feed better. Bob

Alot of older machines needed the thread lubed because all they had was cotton & linen thread that had to be lubed to sew,nowadays nylon thread you really don't need it until your sewing around 3/4". There is silicone thread lube avaiable .

It's a 17" Singer 11 Class,alittle shorter than the one in the pic.

Great looking machines,I also got bitten by the old machine collection bug & when we moved into our larger building I had a room set aside for them but had to use it for something else . So here's a few pics of them. The smallest one is Singers first model of Industrial machine,the 2nd is called the Standard & the 3rd is a 3-1 Harness machine

The 563 is a good machine that has been replaced by the 1508 which sells for $2,200.00. So a good used machine 563 sells for $8-1,200.00 I have alot of customers using them & they work good as long as your careful when pulling up the bbobbin thread when you start. The Consew 206 & Chandler 406 are also good machines & with the horizontal hook the don't jam up as easy & will take #207 thread were the max the 563 like is 138. HTH Bob

Over the yrs I have rebuilt & resold 100's of these 7 class we even used to put reverse on them(we always painted them gray too),they really holdup good.BUT they are a flatbed & always a flatbed which can be problems & the feet are very large & make it hard to get close to hardware.The modern machine have different plates & feet available for sewing things like holstarts ,stirrups,knife sheaths that can't be done on the 7 ,some parts are real hard to find for it too.The ser# is on the casting below the mod# They also just have a bottom feed on them which can still mark your leather,the new style of machines have a smooth feed dog & even have a slotted plate available for fine leathers as they feed even with a feed dog with the walking feet & needle feed system. The main reason I like to inform people is alot of times after they spend most of their money on a machine then after a few months they find out it doesn't work 100% for them THEN they call me & want me wanting to buy a machine provided I can give them what they have in the machine that doesn't workI really want to help them as much as I can BUT we have these machines on the shelf now & have to tell them we just don't have much call for them anymore. Looks to me like they are using a pretty large thread?The Sailrite won't use anything larger than #92.

Kelly, The tension post is pressed in(hammered carefully)so you'll have to take a hammer w/a nail & go in the hole underneath & pound it out.I do have the new posts in stock as Wiz says.

Kelly, It takes years of sewing to get grooves worn,is it possible that it's always been that way & you just noticed it now?

It's like a Consew 226R only Double needle. Years ago most of the Consews were made by Seiko.

To make a nice looking stitch you need to match your needle size with the thread size,so what size thread do you want to use? Bob

Yes,the 31-15 would work good for you,you can get a roller foot & out a servo motor on it & have a great machine.Parts are still available too. You might even do a search on craiglist.

Jim, It MIGHT work but not w/o some problems,the 188 has a knob on the end of the handwheel like a home machine does to wind the bobbin & when ur sewing heavier material it will loosen up by itself & slip.It is more of a tailer machine,it also will only take a small belt because the handwheel has a small groove in it. I know because we have one here for sale & they sew great in cloth & that's about all they can handle. Bob

The 239g120 has a powered roller foot & roller feed for fancy stitching in shoes & purses & etc,it makes from 8-32 stitches pr in,uses 46,69,92 thread. prices I'd say $2-300.00,most parts are still available for it.

I guess I might as well jump in here. maybe i'll sell the 591 and keep the 211.-That's a great idea! wiz - i'm confused. what is a walking foot needle system: 135x16 or 135x17? does this refer to needle size?135x16= round point needle,135x16=leather point if not, is there any info that tells me what size needle to use with a certain thread size? also - what does the "155" designate (as in 211g155) in the model number?It the model that has a walking foot,there's also a 211g150 that is a needlefeed & a 211g157 needlefeed w/reverse & there also a 211g166 w/rev & walking foot.
