Oldtimer is correct you need to use the 794S point,that is our biggest selling needle for leather.They will make a real nice looking stitch because they make a cut in the leather that's in line with the stitching.

Hello, We have had this problem before when we have rebuilt these & we have found that soaking really doesn't seem to help much.We clamp it like you have it & take off the 2-screws & washer at the top & get a brass or aluminun bar & hammer it out the bottom.You don't have to hit it real hard.What happens is the old oil dries up almost glueing it together. Knut, We used to get it in a gallon container.If they have any try the CRC 556 it works 3x better than WD40

Knut, We've used the CRC power lube before & it is good oil for a machine,it is alittle heavier than standard oil.

As the others have said DO NOT use WD40 as a lubricant,I would only use it on rusty bolts to free them up even then there's alot better lube to use than WD.I think the confusion comes from the can it's self,as they write lubricates ,penetrates,protects on the side. We have the sewing machine oil in 2-grades standard stainless(clear) & a heavier oil that isn't clear for heavy Industrial machines.And that's what we recommend to use. Bob

#1 you could have the foot presuure to tight.#2 When does the inside foot come down?The needle should come down just slightly before the inside foot comes down on the feed dog. Bob

Sue, Yes,I have both the handle & bolt that holds it on.But the different feet haven't been made for years so you'll have to find them used somewhere. Bob

Yes,PB Blaster will help dissolve the grease then get a rag & wipe it out mmaybe even holding the rag w/tweezers since it's kinda tight back there.I won't worry about trying to get it all out just the worst of it & then oiling it will thin it ouit,mainly get any big globs out.

suem, Don't put grease in the back,there's a roller there & it will buildup behind the roller & stop it from spinning & put flat spots on it & ruin it!ONLY use oil on the whole machine. On the issure about the butterfly turning the others gave you some things to look at & I just thought I'd mention that sometimes it gets dirt & etc in it & if you just keep oiling & turning it'll loosen up. James, I guess I should of asked f/a pic.Yes, they also had a thread oiler on them for cotton thread. The light bracket (if it has one) also swivels. You probably won't need to use it with the nylon thread. Bob

The 29K60 is a large bobbin(well what's considered large),approx the size of a nickel the small bobbin is the size of a dime.

John, So how is it working?I've rebuilt alot of these 31's over the years & alomst all them need a new race in them this is the casting underneath that holds the hook in,it is removed by 2-screws.How much play does the shuttle have? Bob

My guess is since it sewd b4 you rethreaded it I'd say make sure the needle is threaded from the left to the right.ob
