  1. Most threads will require a size 22 needle to sew#138
  2. Your machine just has a bottom feed that pulls the material through,an uph machine has a walking foot & needlefeed on it where the needle, center foot & feed dog all 3 go back as it's feeding ,I have sewn 2" of foam on this type of machine when I'm demostrating them & they pull it through w/o any problems.Since the needle is in the goods when feeding back it cannot slip while sewing.
  3. Hello Shooter, you mention that it isn't sewing correctly at all,so what is it doing?
  4. I've done alot of cast iron repair & like to weld using nickle rod, grind & preheat,I have seen alot of machines bazed either way if done properly should hold. I do have some bobbins in stock & will let you know tomorrow what I have.
  5. What else did you do?Did you unthread the needle to wind a bobbin or did you change the needle?
  6. The best lube is regular clear sewing machine oil,do not ever put grease on a roller it'll build up in front & cause it to stop turning & make a flat spot. We have the round leather belts in stock for it. Here's some info on the 29's which is what yours is it just has an open back, different bobbin winder & hand lifter & handwheel are different & the top arm is smaller which they improved on the newer 29's with the added strength of the bridgework. They were also called U.F.A. for Universal Feed Arm
  7. I think those suspenders you sewed are close to the max for this machine, the largest thread you can use is #92 in it. Bob
  8. Jim, We have a D.C.Servo motor that has a built-in reducer that should mount in the same 3 holes that your table has for the 3-phase motor for less $$ & it'll work better because when you have a motor & reducer separate you have to slide the belt off to tilt the machine back. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Thx, Bob
  9. A 29K in good shape should use up tp #138 w/a #22 needle.
  10. Hello Kate, I remeber you bought some parts from me a couple of yrs ago f/your Landis. I get a few calls a year for a shuttle for these #1 & they are very hard to find,I know an Amishman that has one once in a while & can check w/him & let you know. Bob
  11. Katy, When I was talking to Russ about a roller foot I was refering to the Mach1 which has the feed dog on the bottom & will leave marks on most leather.I'm not bashing the 29-4 as they are great little machines & very handy,we sell quite a few of them every year,I also know about loosening the foot tension but you have to be careful as it's a fine line to keep it where it'll still feed & not skip stitches & not mark & if you sew thicker it will need to be tightened alittle more. There's the fact that some leather have a harder finish & are more tolerant of the teeth on the foot. Bob Kovar
  12. Art, your correct it's a 144w,at least it has reverse. Bob
  13. Sam, Your Welcome,We are a Consew Dealer & have alomst all the parts in stock for it too, along w/needles & thread. So let me know if you have anymore questions. Bob Kovar
  14. Yes,it'll handle thin leather like you want to sew, there is some things available for it like a nylon foot & a roller foot that will help feed the leather through,we also have leather point needles & it will use#46 & #69 thread. Let me know if you have anymore questions as we are a Consew Dealer. Bob Kovar
  15. This pic should help,it's screw marked AC.Click on the pic & it'll open up larger. Bob Kovar
  16. Wiz, I have some needles in sizes#2,3 & 4 @ a good price. Let me know if you need any. Thanks, Bob Kovar
  17. We sell a D.C. Servo motor w/a builtin reducer that is alot easier to put on then a separate reducer & servo motor & lower price too!(it fastens in the same holes as a clutchmotor) .A few people on the board have bought them & can't believe how slow they are,one stitch @ a time if you want. Bob Kovar
  18. Donnie, The price isn't to bad & they are a handy machine to have around but they are not good for sewing what you want as they won't take heavy enough thread & sew as thick as what you need + they have a top feed which means the foot has teeth on the bottomside that pulls the leather & it'll leave some nasty teeth marks on the top of what your sewing. Hope this helps. Bob Kovar
  19. There's 2 screws on the bobbincase & it's the one on the left that adjusts the tension. Bob
  20. Leighton's is correct about the small bobbins on the 29's most of them will only sew to around 8mm use 138 thread max & alot of tack uses 207. We sell the same machine as a Mach1 they will use up to 346 thread the bobbin is probably 10x larger too & will sew to 10 mm or more. They have a feed dog that can mark the bottom but it'll probably look better than the marks a 29 would leave on top. We also have a roller foot available that helps the feeding on this machine. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Bob Kovar
  21. Singer never made a big single thread chainstitch like this machine,I'd say look to Puritan for more info. Bob
  22. Hello, We used to rebuild them yrs ago to sew to over 3/4" & also would put reverse in them too. You should be able to sew an easy 1/2"+ with it,We still have alot of parts so let me know what you need. Thanks, Bob Kovar Toledo Ind Sewing Machine Sales 1-866-362-7397
  23. I don't know what brand machine that is but can tell you it's a single needle chainstitch used in collar making, luggage making. It's alot like a Puritan. I probably have needles & awls for it.
  24. If it has the long beak type of shuttle they aren't being made anymore, but I think I know where I can get some used ones if needed. Some machine might have a round bobbin. Bob
  25. The thread needs to be between the 2-discs that why it gets tight, how tight it is supposed to be is best checked by test sewing,a few weeks down the road you'll be better able to test tension by pulling. And the tope tension does need to be tighter than the bobbin. HTH Bob
