  5. The machine will tilt back. if you use a guiding line to keep the tilt in check, it should be ok. This would be the case with lifting with a strap as well.
  6. At that weight, I have to assume that your machine is at least a 20 ton clicker, probably much higher. That means the head is rated to press 20 tons of force. Your machine weight is approximately 1 ton. Your head is more than rated to lift the clicker up, and lifting it with a strap is a common method of lifting these in the factory. I've done it myself on our 16 ton machines (1400 lbs). However, if you like, almost all clickers can be lifted by placing the forks underneath the machine, close to the feet of the machine. The lower case is designed to hold the weight of the machine. just make sure the forks don't bang in the machine or any drain plugs in the bottom of the case. EXPECT THE FORKS TO BEND. When they bend, counter by leaning them back a little to keep the machine level. I would strongly suggest a pallet with a solid surface. a regular pallet will crush under the point load of the feet. I use 3/4" plywood (NOT OSB!!) for a base, and even then, still reinforce with 2x4's. You might just use (2) pieces of 3/4" plywood. Be sure to bolt the feet to the pallet: If one foot crushes, the bolts will keep the machine upright.
  7. Each machine may "Look" the same to an untrained eye, but there are subtle but important differences in each machine. Some machines, such as the 441 clones can swap certain parts, but not ALL parts. With regards to "making the 3200 into a 4500", it's really not possible. While the interior parts are very similar in appearance, there are many small differences that prevent cross part swapping (believe me, my life would be easier if this were the case!). Not to mention that the casting is greatly different between the two, ultimately limiting foot lift to a certain distance. NOW, that said, you CAN adjust the 3200 to sew thicker by sliding the outside presser foot bar upwards in the upper block. But, this comes at a cost: the presser foot will no longer touch the needle plate by that same height you raised the foot. I guess conceivably, a sharp machinist could rework a 3200 into having the same sewing thickness as a 4500, but by the time the guy is done making all the new parts, and grinding the castings, he could have worked enough overtime to have paid for a 4500 in the first place.
  8. I still sell the hand control. It's $85, and comes with installation instructions. We don't advertise it a lot because it's not a big seller, and we sell it about at cost. I designed it, and it was meant as as service to our veterans, and as a help for those with Diabetes.
  9. If it's in good working order, like this one, you could probably do just that. This machine he's selling is super clean, and prices for the old singers still hold value in Texas. Might take a few months to sell it, to find the right person, but you would sell it. I sell a brand new Cowboy 29K for $1895. So an original Singer one in near mint condition would probably go faster than I would expect. There is approximately 4 million people in Oklahoma, according to google. There are approximately 6.8 million in Dallas/Fort Worth alone. North Texas is 7.6 million. Texas has 28.7 million people. It's simply more people looking for the same machines. Prices are higher.
  10. nice machine. Antique, with original base. if it sews well, you could probably ask for $1400 and get it. Lots of guys love these older singers. Edit: Taking a second look, this machine looks in awesome condition. I would bet you could get 1600 for it, if you could find a collector.
  11. Hmm. Excellent idea. I already have a couple of hidden pages that you have to stumble upon. Maybe I should add a "Spouse Price" page.
  12. I will absolutely send a sheet with the documentation that says "Congratulations on your 30% OFF Sales Purchase!"
  13. It's possible, but not very effective. Treadles were best when run at speed, using the fly wheel to punch through light leathers, on a machine that had very loose tolerances that spun freely. There's precious little torque in a treadle, and most of what you would generate would be eaten up by the frictions in the head.
  14. Yah, saw that. Shoulda just called one of the dealers. We keep extra pulleys in stock, and I have the tools to ream out to various sizes. `vOv'
  15. Not sure you know this, but I am big into olympic archery. I have a 22 meter range set up at my house, and shoot a 70 amo/ 40lb recurve.
  16. All Cowboy machines now come with the 50mm/2 inch pulley as standard on the servo motor.
  17. Privately manufactured exclusively for LV. Shipped directly to them. Any available on the open marker are fakes from China.
  18. It's not me that sets the prices. That's how auctions work. I'd have to get enough people interested in it.
  19. Added more info. That would probably work, but be wary of staining characteristics and residue build up. Story time: before I got into sewing machines, I was working leather. I had just purchased a new 441 clone, and decided to oil it. I had just finished engineering school where I had done extensive testing on oils and their wear properties. I knew that Royal Purple was high on the list of performance, and I had a bottle on my shelf. So, yep, I oiled down my 441 with purple oil. AND.....it stained every piece of leather for MONTHS. seriously. I had to oil that thing about 16 more times to wash it out. Ugh, such a mistake. Don't do what i did.
  20. Any type of mineral oil will do in a pinch, including baby oil. Sewing Machine Oil, including Lily White and Singer Machine Oil (SMO) is basically mineral oil. Mineral oil is a catch-all name for several types of liquid paraffin oil. The highest grades of paraffin oil are medical grades, which are sometimes used as a laxative and are generally safe for internal use. The key characteristics needed of a sewing machine oil are: resistance to residue buildup, low staining, low flamability (but NOT inflamable, it will burn), good surface tension/capillary action, and relatively low cost. Idealy, you would want a low viscosity oil with decent surface tension. This allows the oil to seep into the wicks and small areas of a machine, while the capillary action will pull the oil into the small clearances of parts.
  21. I've been thinking about hosting an event like this down in the DFW area. I guess it just depends on interest.
  22. Thanks! We'll be doing more of these in the near future. Stay tuned.
