  1. I used to have a life... it's amazing how much more time you have on your hands when you move to the wilderness. @byggyns, I just did a 56" belt by hand, all in all, it took me about 5 days.
  2. I am so glad I'm not the only dad to use the built in handles! You wouldn't believe the mocking I got from the wife, whenever I would pick up the kid like a sack o' taters
  3. Totally unnecessary if you dress the kid in overalls, cuz then you have handles on the back and you carry them like a bowling ball bag. Worked with both of my boys.
  4. @chiefjason- I don't care for concealed holsters in general, I prefer a holster that stands out and has some style and personality. That said, I don't mind doing things outside of my norm, just for the experience and a little challenge.
  5. Josh is right, there is bound to be a flurry of folks complaining about "the risk of injury if you fall". If you are that a risk of falling on your butt, don't carry it. It is not my preferred style, so I don't wear one. If somebody else wants it, no problem.
  6. I don't remember the specifics from the movie, but judging from the picture, it seems to be little more than a narrow one piece gun belt with suspenders. The right side strap looks like it might have a skeleton strap holding the secondary pistol ( A cut down revolver, I think. It doesn't look like a derringer). The bottom half of the left side, is reminiscent of the Al Stohlman Shoulder harness in his book How To Make Holsters. If you have more pictures, it seems easy enough to reproduce.
  7. Have you ever seen the movie A Knight's Tale? Heath Ledger is a commoner pretending to be a Noble to compete in Tournaments. His armor is damaged, and since they don't have any money, can't find an Armorer to fix it. He has gone through almost all of them, until only a female Armorer is left. As he approaches her she has seen him going from tent to tent, and says "I don't do work for free... if you don't have the coin, I won't do the work." He says "That is just as well, they all said I was daft to even consider you." She bristles up, "Did they say I couldn't do the work because I'm a woman?" "No, they didn't say it was because you were a woman, it's because your work is shite." And of course, she takes the work to prove them wrong One of my favorite movies, because you get to see Geoffry Chaucer get thumped repeatedly. I still remember having to read Canterbury Tales in British Lit.
  8. I gotta agree with the others, nothing girly or feminine about Crooked K, it invokes the imagery of cattle ranches of the old west. And when you think leather, cows come to mind as well. And, you say you are already set up with that account, Own it! Rock it!
  9. Thanks to all for your opinions. I haven't been out right charging anybody for the molds, but padded a little in for the shipping That is less than $10 usually, unless they want to speed things up. But, I was talking to someone a while back, and they had asked if I was charging the customers anything for the molds I had to order. They suggested that I should recoup at least part of the cost. So, I just thought I would see how the rest of the world is doing things.
  10. I had to order a Polish P64 for a holster, and not likely to be a big seller. So, in that case? I mean, with the way that new models come and go, people tend to change tastes. Sure, there are the die hards that will always be in style, but you never can tell when you order a new mold, can you.
  11. I'm not talking about finishes and the like, but holster molds or dummy guns. I have a handful of BlueGuns in my stock. When I get asked to do a holster for something different, I have to order the mold, or use their gun. Sometimes, the latter isn't possible. So I order the mold, and add a week to ten days to the completion time. How do you figure in the cost of the mold and shipping?
  12. @BeercuelsTheSecond- Completely off topic here, but... I'm not sure what kind of music you listen too, but are you familiar with a band called The Airwaves? They used to be known as Swedish Whistler when I knew them.
  13. Very cool! I really like the chest! Any way you could post a better picture of the carving on the lid?
  14. Thanks HBAR. I knew about cutting on a curve, but not really excited to try that for a first time. I was particularly interested in wet forming the curve though. With a wide blank of 4", I thought about wetting it and trying to stretch it on a pipe to for the curve. My hesitation is, that forcing a curve is going to leave the leather bumpy, not flat and smooth. Am I correct there?
  15. Sorry to drag this old thread up, but I'm thinking about doing another Buscadaro/Gunfighter belt. The last one I made, was cut straight, and since I have apparently lost my butt over the years, it tends to slide off my hips. I am wondering how wet forming a curved belt would work? How would it be done?
  16. Looking at the pic you posted, it looks more like rope, not circles. Maybe his just need to be smaller, and more tightly spaced then?
  17. I'm just the opposite. I prefer holster work, but I've been asked to do a belt, a tool pouch, and various other items. It isn't my norm, but I don't mind thinking outside the box on occasion. If somebody asked for a leather cod piece, I'd turn it down, just because I don't want to have to measure and fit the guy. If a gal wanted a bustier, I'd certainly take every effort to make sure it fit just right... but that's just me. If somebody asked for a steel lined belt... I'd really have to consider a source for the spring steel, and how much more it would add to an already time consuming project. If they were willing to pay it, I will make it.
  18. Isn't China where everything comes from anyways?
  19. @TonyRV2- Without looking at the catalogs, I'd swear I've seen sole bends that were 13-15oz, maybe even a tad heavier.
  20. Actually, Bill hired somebody smarter to do the work, then sold it as his own. Those hippies in California had the Mouse first, and Bill stole the idea. So kiddies, THAT is how you get rich
  21. I have to agree with the Cowboy, those circles around the anchor do nothing but confuse. Other than that, it's a good starting point. Keep working on it, and you'll get to where you want to be.
