  1. Welcome Anton. That is some beautiful work right there. You are going to fit in very well here, and have lots of admirers!
  2. 6 spi should be fine. same for the 2 layers of 5-7oz leather. Make sure you use a good glue, as the layers tend to shift and separate with weaker contact cements. And what Dwight says about hand stitching is true. Hand stitching belts is a chore. Pick out several good movies, or cds... you're going to be there a while. I started doing a 58" belt the other day. Only 4' left to go. Another thought that might not have been mentioned, is cutting your belt on a curve. My first western gunbelt was cut straight, and it tends to slide straight over my hips. Cutting it on a curve will give it a bit of a tapered effect, helping to keep it in place.
  3. @Mattsbagger- I like the big eyes, makes it easy for an old fart to thread. Ok, easier, I still miss sometimes. Alot.
  4. The popcorn you are eating, has been pee'd on... film at 11. Go ahead and name that movie... I dare ya
  5. I haven't heard of that thread, but lots of folks really like the Tiger thread. There is a fella here that sells it... search feature is necessary, I can't remember who off the top of my head. You also never mentioned what style of gunbelt, so it is hard to comment on that as well. Soooo... pass the popcorn Mutt, don't be a Bogard
  6. I'm not a fan of closed toes personally, but that is some beautiful gun leather! Um... gun AND knife leather?
  7. I honestly wouldn't know, I make my own patterns for free
  8. I went to the shop (a.k.a. the storage building) to start casing a belt blank. I opened up the dunk tank (a.k.a. the Wife's casserole dish), and it was frozen solid! I seriously am starting to miss those wonderful Florida winters!
  9. Still making the earrings?
  10. Try JSL, he's got lots of holster patterns for sale cheap.
  11. I had to look, because I had never heard of these. Just looking at it though, has my arfritous screaming! Tools for a youngster?
  12. I think I have seen those used in old auto body construction. Try your local paint and body store.
  13. Yeah, but again, there is a HUGE difference between a working pro's work, and lil Johnie's gramp's. I went through that when I was doing video work. Lot's of folks could take their handycam and shoot some video. Mine was NOT a handycam, and I knew how to frame properly, used a good shotgun mic, and knew how to edit and sync. That is why I got hired to do a job, and not just do it as a hobby.
  14. If they are intimidated or thin skinned, unfortunately, the web is no place for them. It is full of trolls and bullies, who can run their mouth from the safety of their home, knowing that it is unlikely they will ever be face to face with their targeted victim. Fortunately, not everyone is like that, and you can find comradery,, helpful tips, and honest critique in any forum as well.
  15. Never seen those before. Have you tried ohiotravelbag.com or buckleguy.com? Try those first, the try amazon
  16. Relax, and don't panic... you are in Michigan
  17. Hiya Mom! Welcome to the forums, you'll find all sorts of people that know their machines here... I'm just not one of them I love your car work, that is awesome stuff, and I look forward to seeing more of it!
  18. Those don't look bad at all. Neat and clean. How did you like the tiger thread? Was it worth the extra money?
  19. You might want to try stropping it on a honing stone, then the leather strop. Rinse and repeat as necessary. Personally, I could never get the hang of a swivel knife, and prefer a sharp pointed pocket knife. Not quite as smooth as what others can do, but it is what I'm used to using on wood carvings.
  20. Hey Mutt- I'm not sure what's up with JSL, he puts up posts wanting to sell and swap, but then decides he doesn't want to. I have a G43 single I could let you use... not sure I want to sell it though. You up for a loaner program?

  21. Are you sure? I thought I saw it move
  22. You are welcome, and thank you for sharing! Now... about the butterfly?
  23. WOW! That is beautiful work! Is that a real butterfly, or carved? I can't tell if it's live, or Memorex
  24. Nevermind, I did a search, and after a few places, found one that defined the differences. What I have are the chisels, not the pricking iron.
  25. Diamond point chisels... aren't they the same? I have heard the names go both ways.
