  1. How well does the kydex work? It seems like it would be a lot easier to work with.
  2. Some of the bigger name gun belts have a metal blank sandwiched in between the layers. Never thought about doing it myself
  3. Thanks Josh. I can't remember if I have even heard a term for the strap, let alone a style name. But anything has to be better than "A strap that holds the holster to the skirt"
  4. The style is a full skirt holster, but unlike the Mexican Loop, the strap is either inserted through slots in the skirt, sewn or riveted to the skirt. What is this strap style called?
  5. At the $200+ range, are there many people buying? I mean, I could see some of the gun people spending $100 or more on a holster, and not bat an eye. But I honestly can't say I know anybody that would pay that for a belt. On the other side of that coin, I have seen women spend $3-$5k on a purse, and not bat an eye. It is funny how the world works, ain't it?
  6. I would first have to question "Why"? You could likely create a duplicate out of leather that would be every bit as effective, and have the basket weave and the safety features, without making that one even clunkier.
  7. Springfield has them, and I think Tandy does too. You might also try Weavers, or go on Amazon and find a better deal.
  8. That looks really good! Nice work!
  9. That is a cool idea, I've just been using a cheap .75 cent butane lighter, like the $1.50 "Thread Burners" they sell in the Springfield catalogue As far as your shield, couldn't you accomplish the same thing if the brass had a slit, instead of a hole? I think it might be easier than threading that hole.
  10. You are preaching to the choir... sez the guy who just finished handstitching a 5' belt. Belts... Why did it have to be belts?
  11. Have you tried the search feature? Lots of stuff here already.
  12. Aside from the one corner looking a little funky, it came out nice. Is that machine stitched?
  13. Hopefully while sober. Otherwise, the blood may spill
  14. Maybe one of those light weight wood hammers that Tandy sells for about $3, and glue a piece of leather on the face to protect your project?

If I could move it, and had room, I'd take it
  16. I don't use edge coat often these days, but I use a fine pint brush. Takes forever... which is why I don't use it much.
  17. Those are right pretty! I like to see some holsters with a little personality
  18. There was a post on here a while back, the lady called it "Care and Feeding". That is a list I'd like as well. I tell people to treat them like a pair of fine leather shoes. Military folks understand it, but the average person is used to sneakers... or flip flops if they are from Flordida.
  19. Welcome Anton. That is some beautiful work right there. You are going to fit in very well here, and have lots of admirers!
  20. 6 spi should be fine. same for the 2 layers of 5-7oz leather. Make sure you use a good glue, as the layers tend to shift and separate with weaker contact cements. And what Dwight says about hand stitching is true. Hand stitching belts is a chore. Pick out several good movies, or cds... you're going to be there a while. I started doing a 58" belt the other day. Only 4' left to go. Another thought that might not have been mentioned, is cutting your belt on a curve. My first western gunbelt was cut straight, and it tends to slide straight over my hips. Cutting it on a curve will give it a bit of a tapered effect, helping to keep it in place.
  21. @Mattsbagger- I like the big eyes, makes it easy for an old fart to thread. Ok, easier, I still miss sometimes. Alot.
  22. The popcorn you are eating, has been pee'd on... film at 11. Go ahead and name that movie... I dare ya
  23. I haven't heard of that thread, but lots of folks really like the Tiger thread. There is a fella here that sells it... search feature is necessary, I can't remember who off the top of my head. You also never mentioned what style of gunbelt, so it is hard to comment on that as well. Soooo... pass the popcorn Mutt, don't be a Bogard
  24. I'm not a fan of closed toes personally, but that is some beautiful gun leather! Um... gun AND knife leather?
