  1. @steadybrook-Shoot him a PM. I did, and got a sample card in a week. It seems like a decent place, maybe he just is busy? PM and see what happens, or email the company.
  2. @Colt W Knight- I'm not really a guitar guy, so could you help clear up the length and width thing? What are you using as an average strap width, and how much for a wider strap? When you say "48-54 inches", that is the main wide strap, and the narrower straps that attach to the body. How long is that making the wide strap? I have made one guitar strap, and that was for my son. Not having any hard dimensions to work with, I totally winged it.
  3. I believe the poster said they were discharged, and he was only using the shell?
  4. That is real pretty, as usual. You do some fine work that makes me envious. Only thing I see, is that loop is maybe a little wide?
  5. Whether you use a screw or a rivet, you will need to pre drill. Use a small bit and a drill press to make things easy on you. Don't force too hard, or you could have a problem. I suggested a short sheet metal screw because you won't need anything besides a screw driver... and the use of a drill press. Either way would work well, just be wary of dollar store rivets and rivet gun. I have had them break on the first rivet.
  6. 2 problems that might arise with the pop rivets- First, you need the rivet gun, and cheapos usually break fast. Second, the force of the rivet tightening could pull on the thin wall of the shell case, either pulling through, or warping it. Do not over crank it!
  7. The rivet would only need to go through one side, the side that is up against the band.
  8. I think the easiest route for you, would be to drill through the band and into the cartridge, then put a screw through the band into the shell.
  9. Chrome excel ( I think that is the proper name ) would be excellent for saddlebags. Clean lookin, tough, and weather resistant.
  10. Another tip- If you have heated seats, you can put your cheese samich down and have grilled cheese. Sit on it, and you have a Paganini
  11. You need trees to tan leather? I have 25 acres with oak and sumacs, come get them
  12. I made my first guitar strap for my oldest boy for Christmas last year, but left it unfinished, so that he could do what he wanted with it. It turned out pretty well, and got a lot of attention. Been thinking about maybe letting him do some on his own, to sort of help him earn some cash, and maybe, just maybe, keep him busy enough to stay out of trouble. I figure if that doesn't work out, I could always make a belt to whip him with
  13. Hey Monica, you live in a hotbox. Just set the leather on your front seat of your car for an hour, maybe two since it is Fall/Winter. And I am being semi serious here.
  14. That wood finish looks vaguely familiar It looks like you hit the sweet spot and turned out a nice strap. Out of curiosity, you doing a lot of straps?
  15. That is beautiful work there! But yeah, aside from putting the cell pocket behind the holster, that is very much what I had in mind. What did you use for the main body of the bag?
  16. No, from me. It seems like everybody has a laser except me. I even heard about a guy who has freakin sharks with freakin lasers on their heads...
  17. I really have no pattern right now. But that is just too cool NOT to want to do one. Knowing what you likely need to do for your machine, when I find something I really want, I can do some of the grunt work and save you the headache.
  18. It's what I do... Not really, but glad I could help just the same.
  19. I bet it did. I've done stuff like that making masks for video and green screen rotoscoping. About my least favorite thing to do.
  20. @Willie0-, if you're going to mention it, go ahead and put up a pic? I'd love to see it. And mad respect for a lady with a .45
  21. Here's a tip that helped me find that in 2 minutes- I typed in "double capped rivets with star design", then went to images. There will be a hundred pictures of all sorts of rivets, but I just clicked on the first one that loaded. If you stick with web search, you'll again have a few hundred returns, but 95% of those returns will have nothing to do with what you really want. My connection is slow... 28.8 k dial up slow, so I didn't wait for most images to load.
  22. Hey Tom- I could do that for him, and I need to be in the Atlanta area this weekend anyways. I'll PM you.
  23. http://www.ivan.tw/index.php Google is your friend
  24. Holy Hell! That is outright AWESOME! If'n somebody, say another leather worker, was wanting a design lasered... how much would you charge for something like that?
