  1. @Colt W Knight- Sorry to drag this post up, but I am really curious about the lining. What exactly is it, and where did you get it? As I mentioned in another post, my wife wants me to make her a CCW purse, and I KNOW she would love that lining, much better than the plain canvas I had planned.
  2. The wife is wanting a carry permit, and I suspect it is mostly so she can get a new purse. While I have made holsters, never thought about making a purse, but I'm game. So, has anybody here done one, or maybe more? I could use some ideas and inspiration.I already have a few thoughts, but it never hurts to see how the real craftspeople do it.
  3. That is some nice clean work there. How are you molding the holster to the gun? Vacuum, press, or magic? Inquiring minds want to know.
  4. That looks pretty good, specially for a first attempt. I see where the dye sort of concentrated towards the muzzle. Any idea why that happened?
  5. Cookies? What kind of cookies? Can I get some? Huh? Sorry, can't help myself at times. That is a really cool primitive looking sheath. I was intrigued by the carp hide, and how it was used. I didn't think it would be thick enough to use as a regular leather, but as an overlay, it makes perfect sense. Very cool indeed! Now, back to those cookies...?
  6. That really looks nice, and I particularly like the ammo strip. It has me thinking about making one for my own shoulder rig. Just two questions do you have any pics with it being worn, and why put the ammo strip behind the holster? Doesn't that make it hard to reach? Ok, technically that was three questions...
  7. Ok, I totally understand. I'm not really up on all of this either. I'll shoot you a PM with my email, and what I'm looking for.
  8. And the pricing is...? Don't make us drag it out of you
  9. I have yet to try a stitching horse, but I think I like to move around too much to make it useful.
  10. I can't say for sure, but it was likely around the civil war. If you google "US cavalry holsters", and click "images", you will see a whole bunch with US stamped on them. But, they are in various locations, and at various angles.
  11. WallyMart sells gloves 50 for $5, if you find the cheap ones. The missus is a Nurse, and sometimes I can get her to grab a handful... but she tends to forget more often than not. Seeing how much I spent for them at WallMart helps to jog her memory. As for the needle wounds, I've had a lot of needles break at the eye, then penetrate flesh. Now that right there will have you screaming obscenities! I have also put the stitching awl straight through a finger once.
  12. Hey! No piggy backing my posts!
  13. Knives and razors aren't as big a blood letter as needles and stitching awls... when I say I put my blood, sweat, and tears in every project, I ain't lying ALWAYS keep a roll of paper towels within reach!
  14. In the 5-6 mm leather, how big are the pieces, and what are you asking?
  15. I really like that! It is a good looking set. I'm not sure about the US emblem on the holster though... is it supposed to be off set like that?
  16. Do you have any veg tanned leather? Any idea of the weights?
  17. They have sent me a card twice, for that "Elite Member" special. I've tossed it twice, because the two special days always fall on the off weeks where I don't have the funds.
  18. I'm likely no more experienced than you, so what I say is likely wrong. That said, it looks like it is cased well, you are getting the burnished look from your tooling. You might try cutting a little deeper, for cleaner outlines. To give it more depth, try using antique gels, to darken those nooks and crannies, adding a shadow like appearance.
  19. I got the Colt 1911 w/5" barrel, sig 239, and the Colt single action w/6.75 barrel. That single action was a metal gun, with working action. Interesting, to say the least. They showed up Monday, but the mail carrier won't drive the mile to my place, so I had to go to town Tuesday.
  20. For the domed rapid rivets, the metal cylinder will have a round dimple that fits over the domed cap. You can get those at a Hobby Lobby and maybe Michaels... if you are in a big enough city. That is better than ordering and paying shipping.
  21. @TinkerTailor-If you think that is a goat in that pic, I'm not sure I'd want to eat any Jerked Goat at your place
  22. Nice! I even see termites moving in towards it! Nevermind... the bugs were on my screen.
  23. The bottom part has the post, goes on the anvil. The cap is struck with the setting tool. It doesn't take a huge whack to set it, just some tapping.
  24. @TinkerTailor- Expect frequent power outages whilst your "engine" stops to lick itself or chew on fleas...
