  1. where are you buying Montana pitch blend? now I'm interested. ken
  2. can you please give links to videos you mentioned and credible documentation (not the PETA website) to support your statements about the treatment of cattle in India? those practices (starvation and dehydration) are not beneficial for producing better meat for the market or better hides for the tannery, so it's hard to believe that kind of behavior is widespread. What would be the motivation for that type of treatment? After all, cattle are venerated by Hindus in India, and it's illegal to slaughter them in almost all of the states of the Indian union. Also can you please tell how many cases have been documented of tannery workers becoming ill from long term exposure at work? Not trying to argue. Just asking for some facts, and some rational thinking. ken
  3. hi madmax...i couldn't find the encyclopedia of lacing.did you mean the encyclopedia of leather braiding? or is there another book? thanks, ken
  4. i can't help but wonder...are you cutting out circle holes in a project? or are you cutting out circle pieces like coasters? ken
  5. Steve will you be offering custom embossing die making as a business or only for your own leather work? if you're offering as a business, about how much would you charge for a die comparable to your Air Force example? thanks, ken
  6. beautiful work, and an interesting pattern. is it your own design? may i ask what weight leather you used? thanks for showing, ken
  7. Beautiful work. Thank you for showing. ken
  8. very well done. you nailed his likeness. I would have known who it was without you telling. I'm a big Poe fan...my screen name gives a nod to Lenore. thank you for showing, ken
  9. Bob (hidepounder), i admire your work and respect your experience. can you please explain your technique for sharpening your swivel knife blades to make them really sharp? you also mentioned earlier that you like different size blades for different applications. can you explain more about how you select a blade size for a project? thanks for any help. ken
  10. Beautiful work Roger. the colors are amazing together. I always look forward to your next seat. may i ask about your technique for getting the dark color in the crevices and textures of the skull (is that an antique?) while keeping it out of the pebbling around the flames? ken
  11. Marlon, do you know if George is planning any new instructional DVDs? i have just about all that he did with HC, but i would love to hear that he will continue. anyway it's good to hear that he's doing well, and i think Tandy scored a winner. when you see him again pass along our well wishes, ken
  12. i'm not a dart man myself...so i never knew there were so many different styles of darts and cases available. the website linked below has everything from a small pocket size case with a flap...zippered cases of different sizes...all the way up to a large briefcase size box for darts and all the accessories. i guess it depends on how much stuff he needs in his case, and how much work you're willing to put into it. darting good luck...and please post your project. ken
  13. nice work. lol i like em both...even the garter. it fits the theme ken
  14. welcome Linda, i'm sure you'll find a lot's of interesting things here. do you have a website? i would love to see your saddles and the work that you do. ken
  15. lovely work! while searching through museum photographs of old leather work, i found a few of those interesting little wax tablets about 2 years ago. i thought it would make a good project then, but i never got around to it. i'm glad you did. you've done a wonderful job recreating a beautiful yet practical item from history. ken
  16. Very Nice! very nice indeed, i like the color...the textures...the art...the workmanship... i like it all. hurry up and show us the finished product. ken
  17. hi Gypsywind, you have some really nice design ideas there. i especially like the fourth one. what weight of leather are you using? ken
  18. thank you Johanna, very smart idea ken
  19. hi red, i like the shape of your cases. most of the ladies i know don't wear their phones. it either goes in their purse or they carry it in their hand, so i can understand her not wanting a loop. maybe you can make some with loops and some without. when i looked at your pictures the first think i noticed was how shiny your lace was compared to the cases. what kind of lace are you using? and what kind of finish are you using on the leather? if they were mine, i would try to bring the shine of the leather up a little to match the shine of the lacing, and i would consider burnishing the exposed edges of the leather. to help with your lacing, i would suggest getting one of the good books available. there's a nice way to keep your lace ends out of sight. hope some of that was helpful, ken
  20. years ago i had a piece of one of those hanging out at the barn (don't know how i acquired it) your's looks in better condition though. hope you find out what it is. ken
  21. oops! i guess i was typing while Madmax was posting...looks like great minds think alike
  22. Well first i would suggest reading all the topics in the motorcycles and biker gear section of this forum. there is an unbelievable amount of knowledge archived there. while doing that, i would take a look at all the makers web sites for additional pictures and hints. then start making practice seats and post them here for helpful advice from those who really know their stuff. you're already at the best place on the internet for learning about leather working...just take advantage of all that's here. good luck, ken
