howlback replied to Fowlingpiece's topic in Old/Sold
Damn, why are you selling? Does it eat more leather than it punches correctly? -

I don't really see what the purpose of this thread is? You think Barry King swivel knifes are too expensive? Oh dot well. That being said, is someone buys you a Robert Beard swivel knife just PM for my address. I'll pay for shipping.

They wanted to buy two items both upwards of $150. Unfortunately, they said "I always ask whenever I buy multiple items."

Had someone ask me that. Curious if anyone here has been asked that. If so, what was your response? When I started, I priced everything just below market value. No room for marketing gimmicks, or even wholesale. It's hard explaining that to a potential customer. Especially when you were trying to do them a solid by not outrageously marking up your products in the first place.

In this instance, I need to edge all the way to the very end of these slits. Punch a little hole to allow relief for the nose of the edger?

Never worked with Bridle before. Does it burnish?

They have two Camoga. Don’t quote me on this but I think it’s 14”-16” wide max.

Heritage leather has band knife splitting services available. They charge $50/hr. Expensive if you’re only going a few things but worth it if you need them to be prestinely split. My advice would be to bring a whole bunch of stuff to use that hour up! I have my belt blanks split there sometimes.

Where to research Tanning Facts/Info?
howlback replied to howlback's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I imagine sarcasm is the secret ingredient. Seriously thank you for your post though! Huge help. -
A few things I'm curious about... Brief outline of the chemistry behind vegetable and chrome tanning What the byproducts of the tanning process are/can be used for The process behind certain types of specialty leather (i.e. Bridle, Horween) What part of the process deciphers how well the leather will tool Any other fun interesting things!

And can only be ordered 10 a time (about $2,070 for A/B after shipping).

I just spent nearly $300 dollars on a side of #1 Hermann Oak saddle skirting. Beautiful leather but it's reserved for customer who want to pay a premium. The guy it buy from said Chahin is a nice tannery in Mexico though. Might be worth checking out!

I’ve sharpened it. However, the punch repeated clogs rendering it useless until I pry out the clog. The design doesn’t seem ideal as the exhaust tube is long and doesn’t taper out. the only way I’ve found I can prevent this from happening is by putting a lot of force behind my 24 oz. maul. Even then it’s no guarantee but I wonder if a heavier maul would help.

Recommendations? Craft tool one lasted about 10 minutes.

how can you make airbrushed dyes penetrate deeper?
howlback replied to Jarednem's topic in How Do I Do That?
I think that's what the OP was after though. Certainly what I was I inquiring about. I have this problem too and I have resorted to only airbrush dyeing items that are not subject to wear and tear. My color palette has shrunk significantly but I'd rather apply with a dobber and know my belt can be scratched or the buckle can wear in without the bright white veg underneath showing.- 13 replies

This is a leather working forum and it's members are creating various different products. It's hard to pin down any sort of universal "formula." My advice is to price them at what they will actutally sell at. Most likely, this will be just below market value.
