First is a revolver holster (very typical), where I engraved a longhorn's skull on top. Maybe not the best position but..hope will do better on next one. Second is a holster for SIG P226, made for a friend. It's rom veg tan aswell, but different producer.

So, I'm using 3-3.5mm thick veg tan (8-9 oz), and trying to make first Buscardo holster. Or as it's also known, foldover. I've got a good proper template, but can't really do the folding part. How long should I add on the top to be enough to use as foldover?

Parts of a cowhide; use of each part?
Mocivnik replied to Mocivnik's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
You Sir, You just gave the best answer I have ever got on any forum (and I'm attending quite few of them!). This is exactly something I wanted to hear, thank You very much! -
Since I'm quite new to this, I cannot really find a literature, which would talk about general use of single parts of a hide. What are each part used for (shoulder, bend, back-spine, belly and butt)? And what are the thicknessess of those parts by general meaning, where is the most homogen leather compared to other parts, which is the strongest, etc.?

We're not in the same cart now I'm looking for everything else than what you've said.

Hmm. Yes, I've been thinking about that too but except hole punches(also prongs) and stamps, there is no other simmilar items. All different. Various sizes and shapes. Some tools are even without handles. It's difficult to do something as that. About rivets, tucking all the PVCziplock bags in the drawstring bag = clever. That's something I'd do.

Hmm. It has to close down and be packed in a backpack. More likely a satchel or something..that can be carried in a backpack or single aswell.
-
Some things are changing around me and it's comming to the part, where I need to carry my tools with me nearly wherever I go. I usually travel with large, 75L backpack and would like to carry my tools inthere. List of tools I use/need with me: -Carrot burnisher -Needles -Threads -few stamps - awl handle + 3 different spikes -compass -10 round hole punchers -10 special punchers (end straps, half round, oblong, etc.) -scalpel - wooden hammer/mallet. I prefer hammer, but mallet is smaller. -folding utility knife -skiver -Edge Groover -1,2,4,6 prongs -15cm or 6" thin metal ruler -------------------------------- would like to carry few doubers aswell, while I will sort 45 different rivets in small PVC zip lock bags, aswell as dyes for them. Threads and dyes will have to carry somehow aswell, but I'm concerned about spilling them. Anyone has any idea, what kind of bag would be great for this? All I could think of for now, is a bag simmilar to this:

No need! The word "concho" is the word I was looking for!! I was searching such as "cowboy", "sheriff", "deputy"..etc in combination with "emblem", "star", "badge", "pin", etc.. and couldn't find anything..or nearly anything. But concho? Found me tens of results! Thanks @Mark842 ! If you don't mind, I'd like to ask you just for a photo(s) of your conchos and/or holsters with them. I'm still looking for an inspiration for the finishing

Yes, the closest ia about 2000km :D

So i want to do a holster for my father for a rebolver, but I cannot find a badge size of ~25mm or 1 inch, which would look like a star or something simmilar(like on photo) to put on a holster in front. Where to buy anything like that? Preferably ebay or europe. Can be bigger, smaller, different color aswell.. I just cant find any and anywhere Or, if anyone has some extra, im buying aswell!

So this one is actually 105-373? Hmm..okay :D Thanks! Same questions, this machine : I'm interested in this, if this is a proper machine for working on knife sheaths and gun holsters? I use several layers of veg tan 6-8 oz. If anyone has it, how high is possible to lift the foot, what kind of transport does this machine use? Is this fair price for this machine?

I got this offer, for a fully working ADLER 105-373 on the table with working motor. The price is 560 USD. If anyone has it, how high is possible to lift the foot, what kind of transport does this machine use? Is this fair price for this machine? Thanks in advance!

Dealed with leprevo, if i had to scale it, is be 7/10. They are helpful, but a bit too harsh. Ive bought off them and instead of reasonable discussion about certain toools they just demanded it back. But the qualit is 9/10.the end punch for leather belt got crunched after 10 (!) belts already.

Does anyone knkws, where I could buy leatherworking toola in Edinburgh or Inverness? Im staying here for a while and would like to putchase some tools aswell. Could bu some vegetable tanned leather aswell. Any stores in mind?

I came to the conclusion, that I could technically buy a sewing machine from alibaba/aliexpress etc. Since I'm quite on budget, what do you guys think of machines as this? I'm sewing knife sheaths and gun holsters in 90% of my work. Knife sheaths are 3-5 layers of 3mm thick leather. https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/244-Cylinder-bed-leather-sew-machine_60484704621.html?spm=a2700.7724838.2017115.32.1d8e2303si8yJa https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/amazing-BOMA-810R-wig-making-heavy_60759781981.html?spm=a2700.7724838.2017115.21.498565aa9uUoZ5&s=p

I'd like to start doing knife sheaths, where I'd attach a strap either to hold the sheath to the leg or to hold knife in the sheath. Since just making 2 cuts into back of the leather is too mainstream, I'd like to add oval eyelets to add the view (I'm really into hardware!). Does anyone has an experience of these tools and grommets? Tools on ebay are ~45$ for a set.

well..somehow it is. It gives me enormous pleasure, while I'm into leather..

This is the grinding wheel I bought a week ago for 50$ and it's working just fine. Got 2950 RPM and is 350W motor inside. The wooden wheel is (if I'm not wrong) 40mm in diameter and I think it's great size for burnishing edges. The wood is beech. I hope I helped here.

Finally done. I've actually finish it last weekend, but I didn't took any photos (although I thought I did!) so I was able to take new photos only now. Made from beech, diameter is 40mm, lenght ..I don't really know :D Grooves are from 16mm down to 3mm. Burnishing machine is a "cheap" chinese one, got new for 45€ (52$). 350W, 2950 RPM, I think it's working great. I didn't had much of a chance to test it out, but plan to do it at end of October (when I'll be back from travelling UK).

How to hold this machette in place?

Thanks I've spent about 7 hours stitching and riveting this one :D -
How to hold this machette in place?
Mocivnik replied to Mocivnik's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks, but I really couldn't help myself here so I just added a strap :/ I know it would stay in because of the lenght, but I really didn't like the feeling of the moving the machete inside of the sheath. I pre-designed the sheath for about 2mm on each side of the machete - A GOOD LESSON FOR NEXT TIME. (but on the other hand, it was my 1st knife sheath I've made!) I've also made 2 lines about 3mm off the edge on a strap, as I really like this (saw it few times before). -
