  1. hey man, that is one awesome tie, almost makes me want to wear one.....no, not really, lol, but its still a really cool tie, and I bet the girls notice it too
  2. What is the purpose of a diamond chisel? I've seen them used numerous times and by scores of different people, but I can't figure out why it would be better than a diamond awl for saddle stitching. I was taught to use a diamond awl, and to punch the holes on a flat surface like a work bench, with a firm backing like foam insulation or thick cardboard. So I guess the the question of why people punch their holes on a stitching pony is one for another post. But I still don't understand the chisel, it seems like an awl can do everything and more that a chisel can do, and quieter. Can someone older and wiser than me shed some light on this?
  3. very nice. That first one looks like a cross draw chest rig, do you have any pointers for those? I's like to make one for my Redhawk.
  4. Gary is right about the Neats foot oil, but it also depends on the type of dye you use, if you use alcohol based dye it REALLY dries out the leather. But if you can find some oil based dye, thats the best, it will be more expensive, but worth every penny. And you will still want to apply the Neats foot oil and buff it. Also, if you apply a little bee's wax to the edges after you buff them, the dye is a lot less likely to "bleed" onto your clothes in warm weather or when workin' and sweatin'.
  5. 30 here, got a little time under my belt now, but I know I still have a lot of learning yet to do. I'm a heavy equipment mechanic, been at it for about seven years now, and finally in the last year or two I feel like I know what I'm doing, feelin pretty good, and my kids are getting old enough now to do stuff with, life is good. God is good.
  6. hmm, a removable bottom? that has merit...I just can't think of a way to do it without making it awkward.
  7. Hey, I have a sticker on my toolbox at work like that, it says, "make it idiot proof, and someone will just build a better idiot" LOL
  8. can you just assemble it rough out? call it unique? always make it look intentional, lol
  9. ok, I just looked at everything they have on Amazon, and I can't find anything like the stuff listed on Ebay. Does anyone know of another brand of thread that makes this style? 72" pieces with horsetail ends?
  10. cool, thanks! great minds think alike? Also, its not my first holster, just my first try at this style. Thank you, I really like to use button studs thats the way I wanted to make it originally, and I've made several with an open bottom, but a good friend pointed out that with a backwoods workin holster (especially with such a long gun) you have to worry about what happens when you kneel in the snow, or you're flinging mud with the ATV, or crawling through the underbrush, what might end up in the barrel?
  11. thanks Plinker, and here ya go... Thank you Brooks, do you mean the loops for the belt?
  12. @ComputerDoctor I believe that @micktx was asking about the make and model of whatever has the yellow handle with brown spots (in the first picture), I am a bit curious myself.
  13. Thanks Mutt! Thank you. Closest I've been to Juneau was Haines a few years ago for work, love that area, nice place
  14. hey, thats great! we're pretty close to Glennallen, and its f*****g cold right now, -45 to -50 for the last three days and below zero for the last two weeks. So I've been leathercrafting my way through it, trying to find things to do indoors. I made some but haven't used them yet, so I didn't put them in the original picture.
  15. Sure, they say that "imitation is the purest form of flattery"
  16. very smooth, I've only ever seen black edge paint, but I like that tan.
  17. Thanks, I didn't cover the stud, but positioned it in such a place that it shouldn't scratch. besides, its a working gun not a show gun, scratches just add character!
  18. This is something I've been working on for several years, I started with the belt and have been adding different sheathes and cases as I need them. Obviously it would be to heavy and awkward to wear it all at once, but I can change what to bring depending on the needs of the occasion, hunting/working/scouting/bushcrafting/hiking. The smaller knife is my go to for camp chores and field dressing, its a Mora Black. The pouch contains a 72hr survival kit. The large knife is a customized BK9. Flap holster is for my .44 Redhawk, and the auto is an XD-.45
  19. Thanks man! LOL! Whenever a new guy moves up here and they show us their .357, or 9mm "bear gun" we always tell them that its perfect, you just have to file off the front sight.....that way it will hurt less when the bear takes it from you and shoves it up your a**!
  20. thanks Dwight, practicality was what I was going for. No, the gun is a Ruger .44 Redhawk 7" barrel
