  1. your boots look great man! I'm very interested in making my own work boots, can you tell me how you got started?
  2. that pounding block is SWEET!!! I have got to find something like that
  3. @bikermutt07 have you found the awl blades you want to use yet? I've seen new ones on Amazon and Ebay, but a friend of mine likes to cruise the old lots of tools on ebay and picks up several nice awls every year that are very old and of good quality, he usually has to put new handles on them due to them being rotten or damaged.
  4. @Rossr do I see a wood lathe with multiple polishing and sanding wheels set up on it? great idea man, love that.
  5. cromulent? I'm gonna have ta cogitate on that one...
  6. I've seen them like that before, it looks pretty good. I like to make the lacing right over the top of the stud for the sling, I'll get a picture put up as soon as the camera is charged enough
  7. very nicely done, your stitching is perfect, (doffs hat, and bows). I'm inspired to make the shave kit I've been needing for the my summer work traveling.
  8. very nice work sir, makes me want to add some interesting detail work to the holsters I make
  9. we live near Glennallen. Its 21 here now, nice warm evening, but its just what you get used to.
  10. I'm not seeing the 360 degree clamp, want to elaborate?.........or did that just go way over my head :-)
  11. I really like the "Aussie" product that Fiebings makes, it also works very well for waterproofing.
  12. @Rolandranch thanks man, I'm just a simple (minded) guy I guess, I don't like to mess with "doodads". Hey, unrelated, but I grew up near Prescott, been to Tuscan once or twice, my folks still live down in that part of the country, and various brothers and sisters are scattered all across the southwest. Too hot for me tho, I like the cold
  13. Just finished another holster, this one is for a Ruger P345 .45 acp, partially inspired by the one that Walt Longmire wears, and partially by the holsters that I've seen worn by the local troopers.
  14. @plinkercases seeing all your homemade tools and such I was inspired to post this picture of a press I made for leather working, I'm a welder/mechanic/machinist, dabbler in all things metal...and leather so I had the materials available, but I made this so that I could hang a weight from the handle and walk away to let something form/flatten/stamp while I worked on something else. I really like your burnisher by the way, very nice.
  15. Thanks for sharing everybody I love to see all the great work spaces. I just have a corner table in the kitchen, that I have share with about a hundred other tasks, so all my tools and supplies are kept in plastic totes stacked up in another corner. But its what I got until I get something better.
  16. thank you so much for the info in this thread, I learned a lot about the dull splitter I've been struggling with for a while. Thanks again!
  17. are you sure its for copper rivets? I've seen people use brass casings from .22 LR caliber cartridges as rivets. always wanted to try it.
  18. I have a really good teacher, can't claim that I would have thought of putting one in either. ya, Alaska can be both of those things, winter is a great time to settle in for some leather working or a good book, but it can also be depressing and lonely (hence the leather working with friends). If you want to visit Alaska, plan on a lot of traveling, its a big state, we could split it in two and tx could be the third largest state, lol.
  19. Hey man, good to see you on here, we need to find a few more Alaskan members. @YinTx yes, I had him put a welt in it
  20. Blood, sweat, and tears is always the best thing for leather. But if you can't do that for everything you make, Aussie is a close second. This is what Aussie looks like on new veg tan
  21. Hi all, I just finished a hip holster for a customer, Taurus .44 Magnum. This one was a weekend quickie, but I think it turned out ok. Normally I like to add an extra curve to the top and a thong or strap for the hammer, but this one is meant to be very simple. Thanks for looking. -Jake
  22. Latino, that chart is exactly what I was looking for, Thank you! Yes, the shop owner wants the finished products available in the store, thats the reason I was stumped. Thank you for the advice, I need to be a little more intentional and mathematical in my belt making. And thank you for giving me an idea of the size range I need to consider, that was another thing I wanted to ask about. I mis-spoke, "mass produced" tends to conjure images of a belt rack in Wal-Mart, what I meant was several pre-made belts :-) This gift shop is a small local store, they are consistent but not a major player. Also, they display the business cards of all the artists at the front counter which is nice. I think I'll be able to stock one of each size for starters. Thanks all!
