  1. i had a customer that wanted a holster modified a while back, he liked it so here's number two . changing the loop makes the holster ride higher, tighter to the body and has a cant
  2. it still looks pretty darn good for a first try and it will look much better finished.... That's why i shade in my background with a pencil on the designs, it gives me the idea of how much negative space there is to tool. it also loses the thickness of the lines so you can see how thick or thin your carving will actually look to the eye. if you get tired shading it in then you have to much background to tool IMO and LOL.
  3. i wish i could too. The lilacs are just starting to bloom here, almost every yard has a t least one so the whole town smells like lilacs for a couple weeks,
  4. since its snowing again this morn here are a few pics from warm days past. A wild Rose and a potato
  5. jalapeno tarter sauce will definitely be on my table next fish meal!!! that sounds just badass.
  6. very cool old tractor!!! i love wrenchin on old iron i really wish i had the money to restore i would have a dozen projects lol. I just sold off my 75 mgb and a 68 jeep cj5 that i had way to much money and bloody knuckles in. If you make your own jellies or canned foods you gotta try jalapeno jelly or jalapeno bread and butter pickles. Those are my two additions to the pantry every year. Bread and butter jalapenos are the bees knees lol.
  7. lol i could use a few nice days in a row. I have a transmission to install in my truck and a ton of yard work.
  8. your tooling looks pretty darn good. whats you idea for coloring it?
  9. left over smoked meatloaf sammich today? Darn you Frodo lol.
  10. its trying to warm up i think, over 70 f yesterday today rain with chances of snow. Life at 7000 feet above sea level lol.
  11. used the charcoal grill last night for the first time this year. barbequed chicken. I would have taken pictures but they would have been almost obscene in how delicious they looked. I now believe one of my daughters ,19 , has perfected making barbeque sauce. It had to be as close to perfect as you can get and coupled with my wifes homemade potato salad made me eat waaaay to much lol.
  12. yes they appear to be the same but using a metal snap on the outer part. please let us know.
  13. i suggest sewing it, lose the rivets in this case. your understanding is correct.
  14. So i have another holster to modify but on examining it i noticed this plastic button protector thing. Anyone seen them elsewhere they are a protector for the metal to metal contact. on snaps. i don't care for plastic much buts its a pretty cool invention. or is it just a plastic back piece for a rivet?
  15. look at this picture , what do you see ? a row of stitches not 2mm from the bottom of the strap!!! you should have sewn the bottom there, with maybe a second row and sewn the top and been done with it. This isn't rocket science friend leather straps have been sewn on for thousands of years. any one of the suggestions will work they are from tried and true leather workers with years of experience. rivets will work in leather for some things but not all things and that is determined by the direction of the load on the rivet. the load has to be on the shank not on the heads if that makes sense. such as two pieces lapped together on a belt pulling from each end as compared to your strap which has the load pulling out against the heads. Using them as Fred and AL suggests changes that load factor, the load is attempting to pull the strap then down through the slot not out against the head of the rivet.
  16. beautiful work indeed stick a diaper in it for his first father day!!lol
  17. i used to make toe guards for my adult daughters skates( roller derby) and her team mates also, regular veg tan works perfect for that because you can wet form it nicely around the toe piece. don't go to thick i used 4oz for those.
  18. There are many correct ways to do it but that's how its done in my house. I like a thread to fill the hole and that takes some work that way sometimes.
  19. yes what happens if your tines/awl are sharp on the edges then if you have to wiggle it to get it out it cuts the holes larger. gotta wonder how much those boxes cost you.
  20. beautiful work !! My old cats eats them like candy lol.
  21. you eat a whale one bite at at a time lol. it all comes down to history the first folks to carve their holsters had ideas but no designs no practice in most cases no real tools just something to do during a slow period of surviving life like winter time lol. They made their holsters and any ornamentation to suit themselves. Its a form of folk art. IF you like it that is what matters most. I had an art teacher once i thought i was a crappy artist, which i am lol, but he asked me do you know why the Madonna is such a great piece of art? Because no one knows what she looked like. do you know why copies never look as good? because you do know what the painting looks like. The point here being you can try and copy a design or technique like Sheridan but you wont be satisfied because you know what it is supposed to look like and you just dont have the practice to pull it off but that doesn't mean your own work will be bad, just different and unique. Its time to jump in and have fun with your own style. i cant wait to see it myself!!
  22. man looks just about like mine except mine doesn't swivel i like that a lot.
  23. soooo my guess is sexy leather fireman suits for the stripper trade lol. Just kidding i wish you all the luck in the world on your new quest.
