  1. I picked up a skiving knife from an old man making them in a back alley way in Tokyo. One of those once in a lifetime random scenarios. With that said they skive nice. I still prefer a French edger or the custom skiving knife my buddy made me.
  2. Thank you Bruce. Also just watched your interview on you tube!
  3. Yeah I was getting a eagle carving class from Jim linnell someone asked him at the table if the ruby blade was any good. He said if you wanna make good money come up with a gimmick. A swivel knife blade that never dulls or a yoke that never stops spinning then he chuckled. That brass one they have is next for the collection I will post pics when they come in.
  4. Pretty sure these were a gimmick from a couple decades back. I scored 3 of them, I'm assuming they are mainly for shop decor and not really good for carving. Does anyone who used these have any thoughts or comments about them?
  5. I got a porter and cable belt sander from lowes 5 years ago. Running strong still under 200 bucks if I remember right.
  6. Awesome work. What's in the humidors?
  7. Great work. I love taking Jim's classes
  8. I just got 7 craftool ergos off of here. I'm gonna redo the barrels in stacked leather and wrap the yokes in leather. Gonna start teaching basic leather carving and tooling to kids for free so the trade doesn't die off.
  9. I'll have to measure the pattern
  10. Yeah that stuff looks like it's super spongy. I'd find some herman oak or horween for wallets. Use that to make tooling bags, shop apron and various other things you find you need along the way. I bought 2 sides of like 12oz horween chromexel when I started. It took awhile to find uses and things to make. Turns out 12oz is way to thick for a wallet.
  11. Experiment. I like to get leather that has a finished flesh side for wallets and other things I'm not going to line.
  12. I just took a bag the wife had and made it better. Measured it out and let her pick out some leather
  13. I'll post them, I've done more than a few. I know the show is on the 2nd. I got 3x wallets assembled last night.
  14. I have 14x wallets for an upcoming show. 3 x sheaths for a buddy & 3 x journal covers for co workers.
  15. You gotta buff black dye after it dries with and old shirt or a firm brush to get all the dye pigment the leather didn't absorb. Then you seal it with whatever top coat you prefer. Check out my buddy viktorgeorge on you tube. He breaks this down in a couple of his videos. He also used to do a super helpful Tuesday tip on his IG.
