  1. Thanks for all the help, the organization, the knowledge, and the civility.
  2. I use fabric needles in my Consew 225 on leather. I tried leather needles and it would not pick up bobbin thread correctly. I am sure It could be set to sew with these (hook spacing maybe) but it works with these now.
  3. A friend showed me a leather case/bag/cover someone made him for a metal Yeti water cooler. Probably 1/2 gallon, 7 1/2 high by 4 1/2 diameter with loops and d rings on top and web strap. He wanted one for his son and local shop who made it closed. Should have taken a picture. Anybody made one of these? I have only a flatbed machine so I guess it will have to be hand stitched. It was pretty heavy weight leather and had his name stamped. That’s the easy part.
  4. Will only let you view this if you are local to there and logged into Facebook.m
  5. Send me one too please. I have been making my own version but I bet yours really is better. Thanks.
  6. Factory anvils are really high. About 10 years ago my boss asked me to find him one. My friend in the auction business found him one. At the time used(antique) anvils were about $5 per pound. Seems he let me have it for $3 per lb.
  7. Thanks guys. The roller devices look interesting but no more work than I do may be hard to justify. I got out my jewelers magnifier (I am kinda seeing challenged) and one of the inserts had a tiny hole, sealed with plastic at the factory. After some cleaning out with a pin, it does cut grooves, but I still need an upgrade. Thanks again. Always so much good info here. I have had that tool a long time and did not know it’s features.
  8. No sir. Just the pieces shown. The Tandy product now shows a ground L shaped guide to use for grooving and nothing in the center. I will look for an upgrade for my tools. Thanks.
  9. Here is the one I have. Tandy I think. It has a chisel type tip, a ball point pen looking tip, and 2 not very effective edger tips. I have been using the angle piece as the edge guide and the chisel tip for grooving but they are too thin. I just tried the ball end on the leather shown, multiple times, to get that groove. My L shaped piece is square and too dull as it is to groove. Which are you saying to use?
  10. Thanks. Do you use a chisel-type tip or the paddle type tip? I thought there might be some roller.
  11. I have a similar kit, but it lacks the spoon. Only has a chisel blade and groomers with stitch cogs. I could rig one of these. Thanks.
  12. What hand tool will: make border straight lines on straps? I have a roller to mark lines for stitching which marks thread spacing.. I need a plain groove. Thanks.
  13. There are only 3 leatherworkers in my area that I know. One does boots, one does bags. Gabriel will blow his horn before the three of us would use 10 sides of the same stuff.
  14. It’s like steak. If you never had a ribeye a chuck wagon tastes OK.
  15. Looks like a lot of the heavier sides and double shoulders at Springfield Leather are backordered. They have a bunch of kangaroo however.
  16. Got a. Email reply from Sylvia at Weaver. She said they had checked their stocks, all had these streaks, they are normal and caused by wrinkles and the dye, especially this color, accentuates this. They said I could return it. Someone else said on the forum earlier today they went to Weaver in person and they had not much stock. The return dept is sending a FedEx return label at Weaver’s expense. Guess I need a class on dying my own stuff.
  17. Thanks guys. I have emailed a picture. That’s why I did not get $89 Tandy double shoulders this time. Similar defect.
  18. I ordered this from Weaver this week. Just rolled it out to cut. This is their pre-dyed holster leather. Advertised to just tool, put together and oil, An interesting look . Not what I intended for $255 for the side. Is this normal? Will oil cover it up? Yes I am about to email Weaver and I can return it on my shipping dime. I just wondered if I am being overly concerned. Whatcha think?

  20. Do you think the hydraulic press is safe for SA revolvers ( won’t crush them)? i have a couple of presses available.
  21. Neat. Is that a wooden 2x2 down the middle?
  22. Is the knife he is using homemade? Looks like a putty knife.
  23. Tannery I visited said they would not buy southern US hides. Holes from insects (bots, wolves we used to call them ). I imagine labor is an issue. Hide work ain’t no fun.
  24. I made a bag setup but thought I would try the Harbor Freight vacuum pump without a motor. It connects to an air hose and the Venturi action pulls the vacuum. Specs are similar to the HF electric pump. However it would not pull enough vacuum to form a holster. Thought it would as I have a 60 gallon compressor. Will hand form till I get a deal on an electric pump.,
  25. Dwight has a great loop post
