    Beer Mug

I would think that pouring a hot liquid into a leather mug would cause the leather to become pliable again and loose its shape. Is there a way to prevent this from happening?
  2. I like to give Veg tan an oil treatment then set out in the sun for a day or 2 maybe 3 pending on how sunny it is. I try diferent types of oil, I like coconut the best I oil it let it soak in then oil it again then out in the sun, till it gets a color I like then a couple coat of sheen or resoleane . Even after all that it will still pitina nicely over time.
  3. I hand stitch ,one thing I found is to make a grove i/8" in then use your punch in that grove to make your holes. This inlays the thread a little and keeps it from getting worn and also keeps good straight stitch line.
  4. Yea thats awesome work. How big is it? could be a fancy tool bag or a Dr's bag. too
  5. I always glue makes for a much stronger seem. I hand sew.
  6. Putting your Brand on a product you make is advertising for you. People see your work and want to know who did it so they can order from you. I would not agree to not put my brand on a piece I made unless the buyer wanted to pay an extra fee so he's paying for the advertising to be removed.JMO
  7. Old thread I know but I'm a new guy so I'll throw in my 2 cents worth. I oil my leather then let it sit out in the hot AZ sun for a full day. This give the leather a nice color. I then give it 2 ot 3 coats of leather sheen or Resolene let it dry real good. then laser engrave, any smoke residue will wipe right off with a damp cloth. You can still wet mold after this process but takes a long time to dry. Well not so long here in AZ Sun LOL I saw a video here some guy made who said never engrave finished leather. Have no idea why he says that. Also he said wet the leather before engraving. I would not recommend this as when you try to wipe off the residue its just going to smear into the leather. My recommendations are for Veg Tan leather. Like I said JMHO
  8. So its been 4 months on something he said he needed 2 weeks.I guess he found better things to do
  9. I would say My Dremel , I use it to drill stitching holes, drum sander for edges. Burnish edges, rough edges for glueing.
  10. Yes cleaning up the belt loops and work on your edges, bevel , edge kote will help . All in all not bad.
  11. to do efficient and fast work you really want a co2 laser of at least 40 watts 60 or 80 would be much better.
  12. hAVEN'T READ ALL THE POST AND i KNOW THIS IS OLD BUT THE REASON OPps you don't engrave well is you have to much power. Lasers over 80 watts have a hard time dialing down the power to engrave
  13. That really nice work and I to am glad they still play these games but you really have to be careful in todays world someone is sure to grip.
  14. Nice Holster and personally I like the contrasting stitching. I'm going to try different color threads in my Knife sheaths.
  15. I always carried Big Biker wallet with the chain then a few years ago someone tried to snatch it from my back pocket, lucky I had the chain around my belt and not the belt loop, they failed LOL but after that I wanted a front pocket wallet and made this. I have had this in my pocket for a little over 2 years now. It was my first attempt and you can see I put the snap hole in the wrong place first time, didn't bother to try and cover the hole. I love this wallet. I have 10 cards in it and will carry 6 or 7 or more bills
  16. Quick Draw and Sam just beautiful work, I'm so jealous
  17. There lots of way to resize your photos so you can post here. I use a free program called Fotosizer, free to download and use basic version which is all you need, easy to use.
  18. Thanks for the welcome . I have a Rabbit USA 6040- 60 watt co2 laser engraver. Yea its very precise. I design the patterns in corel then transfer the design to the laser. It cuts and engraves the leather then I do all the finish work by hand. I bevel the edges, hand sew the sheath, then hand mold it to fit a knife, then I buff the edges and give them 2 coats of edge coat and finally give the whole sheath 2 coats of resolene .Funny I notice both of you spelled my name wrong LOL
  19. Well I joined this forum a couple days ago to find out about making a leather book cover for a Hardback book.I've been reading threads and jumping in on a few things I'm familiar with and still haven't got around to asking about my book cover LOL .I've been dabbling in leather work on and off for a couple years. I'm mostly into laser engraving wood, acrylic and decided to see what I could do with leather and the laser and wa la I'm hooked on lasering leather . I make custom engraved leather knife cases for Buck 110 Hunting knife and other knives of that size and shape.
  20. I disagree his wallet's are customized , buyers can ask for custom designs and words to make it personnel .
