Well I am not an oldtimer but I will at least try to help instead of telling you to keep looking. to antique this is my method Usually. 1. Light oil and let dry 2. Dye where needed and let dry at least overnight 3. buff dye 4. apply neat lac ( or substitute)with trimmed sheep skin usually two coats and let dry (usually an hour or so will do.) 5. apply Feibings andtique paste using trimmed sheepskin and rub in using circular motion and dont be stingy you want quite a bit. 6. Here you can immediatley wipe off excess for a lighter color or let it sit for a little while before you wipe it all off. 7. Wipe off all paste using a clean piece if sheepskin rub vigorously. Let dry for a half hour or so. 8. apply another two coats of Neat lac Same as before. Optional 9. Apply Tan Kote Same way as neat lac 10. another cat of Neatlac. I dont know if its right but it works for me. Tim Worley TK-Leather

that would work great if the project is the same width as the anvil.

I dont have any more pics, I finished them up and took a few pics, weeded out the blurry ones and got this one. the wife took the camera with her to school today and I am headed out the door to go get 7 head of horses and deliver these chinks so I am sorry about the one pic but just got too wrapped up with other stuff and kind of forgot to take any more I might be able to tweek this pic to show you somethin if you want though. Well the first I would say is Edge Cote, and the second I would guess is chap leather or chrome tan But I am no expert.

Here is another pair of square bottom chinks I just finished up tonight. The bodies are Bucktan from the HideHouse Stitched in black fringe and 7/8 oz h.o. tooled yokes and stamped side panels. the yokes and side panels are finished with EVOO and Saddle lac. I am not real happy with the tooling on these for some reason I cant get this side to case right it is hard to carve and I dont get the burnish I am looking for. I am not sure what I am doing wrong yet but I guess I will figure it out or run out of this hide. the ones in the past never gave me this trouble. anyway I think that overall these chinks turned out good, Tell me what you all think. all input is taken with great respect. Personally I like my cutting table just below waist high. My tooling bench is about 48 inches high and I sit on Bar type chairs when I tool. Tim Worley TK-Leather

Well In theory you put the spot in the corect setter. The long one with the sliding part. Slide the sleeve over the spot, put the spot where you want and place the anvil under the leather and line up the correct dimple in the anvil directly under your spot. not smack the setter with a hammer or maul and TAAAADAAAAA you probably missed the anvil. Now how I use it is insert spot in setter, place leather over poundo board line up spot where you want and smack with maul. turn over the project and bend the tabs on the back of the spot with a screwdriver. and TAAA DAAAA you have a set spot. First off I want to say thank you. Cowboy Thanks very much, I think you will go just as far as long as you keep at it. But thanks for the vote of confidence Tim Klefner Thank you as well The alphabet is just a font from the computer. I started up a word document and typed out the words I will use and and then just highlight and start running through the fonts to see what I like. I make sure that I enlarge it at least close to the size that it will end up when I am deciding what font I will use because they chang alot when they get bigger. I know that is probably the way most do it but for those who dont know how it is done there it is. Steve. Yes these were all completely stitched with my 31-15 using 138 as a top thread and 69 on the bobbin. I need to get some heavier thread for the bobbin but it is working for now I guess. Tim Worley

Here are two Dayplanner/ Mini Photo album. These are 7/8 oz. H.O. they are lined with lightweight pigskin. Carved Lettering. Both of the planners were finished the exact same way and cut from the same side but for some reason they turned out a little bit different. The finish is a light Evoo oiling, A coat of Saddle lac, Light brown Feibings antique paste, Two more coats of Saddle lac. Let me know what you think or what you would change. Tim Worley TK-Leather

Hey there all of you stitcher gurus. I am running a singer 3115 and I want to run 138. Is there any trouble with this or will it work just fine? Can I run it top and bottom or should I stick with a smaller on the bottom? Thanks for any and all info. Tim Worley TK-Leather

Thanks guys. I think half of my problem was that I didnt let the glue set up long enough and the other half was that I got the leather too wet. Well I tried again yesterday and it worked out much better. I did things a little different than you did Bob but it worked out. I applied rubber cement to the dry leather as well as the acrylic that I scuffed up real good. Let it tack up a little and stuck together, I then dry slicked the leather a little bit to adhere the two and let the glue set up for a couplce of hours while working on another project. I them wet my leather, I do this with a spray bottle, I wet it pretty good and let it sit for a little while and let it come back to light color and then rewet a little more and put shrink wrap over it. I went out this morning and started tooling after about a 16 hour "soak" and its tooling up great not much stretch at all. ANOTHER CASE OF IMPATIENCE. I hate it when I get in a hurry. at least it was a small project. Thanks again Tim worley TK-Leather

Well I am really struggling, I just got a hide of H.O. 7/8 oz I have been having great luck using rubber cement and acrylic in the past to prevent stretch while tooling. (thanks Bob) The problem I am having is that this side will not stay glued down. I havent changed anything except this most recent hide. I had to pitch a project into the trash tonight because it had a severe stretch problem that I didnt catch in time and just couldnt salvage. So do any of you have any great secrets to prevent this? I am not sure what I am doing wrong, I glue up a dry peice of leather. Wet the leather and then stick down to the acrylic and slick a little. I then allow the leather to turn back to close to its natural color and then slick again and put under a piece of polished marble(havent got any plate glass) I then allow the leather to case at least overnight. then I tool away. and today I had a major problem the glue let go and the stretch began. Well I havent posted in a while because I finally started down the path of going back to college.(some of you know and others dont but I got hurt at work and blah blah blah). Well I have been busy in the shop and here is the latest. There will be many more pics of other stuff in the next week or so but this is the first one completely done. Laptop case. 7/8 H.O. Tooled using Barry King basket and Tandy meander or Runnin W whatever you want to call it. Finished with light coat of EVOO and topped with two coats of Saddle Lac. Lined with pigskin.
