Just acquired this singer 111wsv31 looking to find out some history if anybody knows anything. All I can find is by SN# it's pre 1940'. The W is made in Bridgeport, CT and the SV is what some call "special variety" or custom made for customer. From what I can tell this is the predicessor to the 144w201. It's a 20" throat with no reverse. It seems that it takes quite a few normal 111w parts but obviously there's many that aren't. It sews beautifully and has some unique cast iron legs with the singer insignia casted onto them. Anything helps. Probably going to sell if anyone's interested. I’ve been slowly dialing her in as I learn the mechanics (First part of the video) My first question: is it normal for the feed dog to impact the outer presser foot as it comes up and before the foot lifts? Is this timing or should I grind off the inner back side of the presser foot where it makes contact? When sewing I noticed that my material sometimes gets pressed forward and I think this might be the cause (Second part of the video) My second question: my material is getting pulled and it’s hard to keep it straight. You can see it pulling up (I’m assuming during tensioning) right as the vibrating presser foot hits it’s highest point and begins to come back down. You’ll see the fabric flare up and it pulls it to the side. Can this be fixed?

Ive been making leather wallets and tool holsters by hand for years. I read here to look for a singer 211. My dreams came true. I purchased a singer 211g166 this weekend for 150.00. It comes with its table. Its old clutch motor has been replaced with a brand new 3/4 horse servo system. Drove 1 1/2 hours each way to get it Ive never used a sewing machine before. Whats the first thing i should do? -
I found a walking foot machine with reverse that fits my budget ($450). It's the CONSEW 118. I haven't found too much info on YouTube for this machine. The seller claims it was a back-up for him and has been stored indoors for the life of the machine. The pictures seem to support his claim as it is a clean machine. I intend to use this machine for leather wallets, backpacks, messenger bags using thinner leather. I'd like to do some basic holsters and upholstery in the future. I would very much appreciate your honest opinions, especially information regarding; space parts vendors/availability, needle recommendations, where to purchase additional presser feet, etc. Thank you all. I just purchased a 1950's Pfaff 130 to sew garment leather on. I'm having a hard time getting the leather to feed through the feed dogs. From what I've researched I am seeing that I may need to upsize my motor but I also think I need a walking foot. My question is, can I safely attach a walking foot to this machine without damaging the machine? Is it made to handle it? If not I am in the market for a machine that can sew between 2.5 - 6 oz. leather. Any and all input is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi everyone, Just a heads up for anyone looking for a walking foot industrial machine. I found a listing on Kijiji (Canada), and traveled there to pick up one of the 22 (twenty two) industrial machines that the company is selling. The price that they are asking is $200 cdn. Note: I have NO financial interest in these transactions. I'm posting the information as a potential connection for the members of these forums (who have given me much good and valuable information). So, here's the scoop: The machines are mostly Durkopp 291 walking foot units (there were also two Pfaff units there) They are 3 phase machines running at 220v (60 cycles). They require a pneumatic line to operate the foot lift, and some other functions. There are no manuals. The operators of these machines are no longer at the factory.... There is no plug on the end of the cord (snipped off, probably were hard wired into the plant's electrical system). According to Naresh (the manager who was my contact, these were all in running condition when removed from service). One of the machines I looked at was missing the bobbin top (and parts for these are EXPENSIVE!) Inspect carefully for any missing bits! I've gotten the one I purchased home and am cleaning it up and getting her going again. I'm currently waiting on a rotary phase converter ($300 US, with shipping). A harbor you know who cheapo compressor will provide air (I hope). Other pieces I've ordered: bobbins (they used preloaded bobbins), and a selection of needles. The module I have says "Durkopp v720" on the front, and "Dz101" on the back. Will post this question in a more appropriate forum eventually.

Selling my JUKI LU-563 walking foot industrial sewing machine. I purchased it from a sewing machine servicing company who refurbished the machine in 2014. Machine is setup to sew leather. The machine works great. Comes with table and 3/4 hp digital servo motor. (Sewquiet 5000). Motor currently has a larger pulley to increase torque, but original pulley and belt is still available with it. Will come with a bunch of black and white M size pre-wound bobbins as well as magnetic LED light and leather point needles. Instruction manual and parts list and thread tree included. She may not be the prettiest, but she does the job! The table is not great, and bows down in the middle. I was given the table for free with the head, so passing that along. I will include the 1/2 hp clutch motor that came with it for free as well if wanted (just collecting dust on the shelf). Price is $900. Located in Sugar Hill, GA (45 min north of Atlanta). I am looking to buy my first leather sewing machine, I want to primarily make bags, and moccasin style shoes. 2 maybe 3 layers of 6-8 oz softer temper leather. I also like to stitch designs on to webbing belts (2 layers of seat belt webbing). The likelihood of me making a holster or sheath out of leather is slim to none. I might venture into leather belts. So here is where I am going to ask for help. What is the difference between roller feed , active roller feeds (techsew 830) and walking feet (techsew 860) for my applications I have only previously used a pfaff 545 & 1245 so I am familiar with how a walking foot operates, I am more curious what are the advantages and disadvantages of both. I will say I really like the idea of being able to see my needle as it plunges into the leather. I know my weaknesses are long straight lines and over or under running where I want to go because I am horrible at guessing where my needle/target is under the presser foot. I know that no one machine will do everything I want to do but I want a fairly versatile machine to start with and then pick up a 227R or similar cylinder arm medium duty machine that's capable of running 207 or better thread. I would like to get a machine in the next month so please help me understand what is going on, the pros and the cons. If you know of a good article, post or video link it or pm me. I have an amazing Juki LU-563 walking foot sewing machine for sale. Heavy and solid cast body, made in Japan. The entire machine was overhauled by Sloan Machinery in New Hampshire about 3 years ago. They replaced the internal parts that had any signs of minor wear, installed a Sew Green Servo Motor, and changed the drive belt. They also mounted it on a good sized, very sturdy table. Mounted beside the machine is an automatic bobbin winder that runs while you sew (it’ll fill a full bobbin before you’ve used half of the one in the machine). You can also wind bobbins when you’re not sewing. The machine has been meticulously maintained and is in excellent condition. It’s always been used and stored in the climate controlled portion of the house. Every time I use it I oil all oil points with the included sewing machine oil (all oil points are marked so you’ll never forget). The Juki LU-563 is a workhorse of a machine. I used it to make leather bags and accessories, sewing up to 3 layers of 4oz leather with ease. I bought it for $1500 and am including a bit over $100 worth of thread, needles and spare bobbins. They run for about $1500 on eBay in similar condition so I’m asking for $1300 cash. I won’t ship, but I’ll gladly meet you around the Hartford, CT area. So I am almost in the market for a good leather sewing machine. I have read hours of posts from all of you wonderful people! I may be more lost now than I was. Any help would be great help. Here is what I need to do and maybe someone could tell me what I need to look for in a machine. 1) Relatively easy to use 2) Sew about 1/2" - 3/4" of leather occasionally but mostly 1/4" 3) Table big enough to unroll chaps or leather vests while sewing 4) Walking foot that actually works like a walking foot. 5) $1500 - $1800 or less preferred budget OK That is it. Is there an option for me????? For now I am struggling with hand stitching EVERYTHING. A 20 minute holster takes 3 1/2 hours to stitch which makes it not cost effective to sell anything. I do it though because I love it. My Jenome costume machine sews through pig and the likes but that's about it. I have been looking really hard at the Cobra Class 17 and the Highlead GC20618. I also really like the Cobra Class 4, I think but it is a little above budget and may put me back a couple of months or more. What do y'all think? Am I on the right track? For sale: One Juki LU-1560n double needle, compound feed walking foot machine with table and 600w servo motor. I recently obtained this in a factory sale but I am quickly realizing I don't have the space for a dedicated two-needle machine. This machine is in excellent clean condition, (doesn't seem like it was in service very long) with only the basic signs of use (some typical scratches here and there on the machine bed, belt guard, etc). I've tested it with 69, 92 and 138 bonded nylon and it sews great and climbs over most anything that will squeeze under the foot. 16 layers of ballistic nylon and it didn't flinch. Only issue with the machine I noticed - the thread tensioner disc for winding the bobbins is missing. I imagine they used pre-wounds in the factory and this was a non-issue. Hello, I have a question regarding feed dogs marking leather. I have a Pfaff 335 sewing machine with walking foot feed. On softer leather the feet marked it as well but I solved that by gluing thin leather on the bottom of the feet. I still have issues with the bottom feed dog marking the leather. It's smooth, without teeth and it moves only horizontally (maybe just a little bit vertically but it is a negligible amount - 0.05mm). What it does is it leaves a line, which can't be rubbed off, on the bottom side of the leather. First I thought this is because the plate covering it was slightly higher than the feed dog so I sanded it down to the same height. This however didn't solve the issue. Are there any solutions/workarounds to this? Many thanks, Jakob

I own a Techsew 2800 which is a cylinder arm sewing machine with smart servo motor that comes with a table attachment which allows you to use it as a regular leather walking foot machine...it also comes with all the bells and whistles, laser guide, swing down arm, adjustable motor, up down needle position etc. the machine is brand new barely used. So I just picked up a nice used Nakajima 380 cylinder-bed machine and was wondering if anyone out there might have a lead on a manual for it? I know it's a long shot, but hey. Alternately, does anyone know which Juki model it would correspond most closely to, and if there might be a manual available for that? I understand they bought out Nakajima at one point, but I can't seem to find a comprehensive listing of Juki model numbers and have given up on searching images and plugging in model numbers at random. Here's the machine when I first looked at it: I redid the table and installed a servo so I could bring it home; I'll put that up in another thread shortly and link to it from here if anyone's interested.

I'm relatively new to the world of sewing and I've begun to get my Singer 111W113 back in working order after having it in storage for the past two years. When I bought the machine back in 2014 everything was aligned and the outer presser foot operated properly. While putting everything back together I'm realizing that the outer foot has far too much clearance, especially when sewing a few layers of material. I'm currently working with a lot of Cordura and heavy canvas for making bags. 6+ layers of Cordura are thick enough to make contact with the outer foot and provide pressure. Less material just slides around freely. I've made attempts to adjust the height of this bar but it seems to be in it's lowest possible position. Is there more to adjusting the outer foot pressure / clearance than just the screw on the top rear of the machine? Thanks in advance!

Looking at many industrial sewing parts I can see they are all made from the same casting with minor differences in machined surfaces. For example, feed dogs may have the holes drilled in a slightly different location or the feeding surfaces may be wider or shorter for different tasks/machines. I bought a Consew 146RB and there are some tasks it just doesn't handle well. Rather than machining complete parts for it out of billet, does anyone have a source for raw castings? I'd love to just machine a few feed dogs, feet and maybe laser cut some plates to match so I can just sew up 100 of the parts I need and then reconfigure the machine to do something different. Hello all! I'd like to introduce myself. I'm extremely new to leather work and vinyl work. I work with the USAF as an Avionics Technician on the B-1, F-16, B-2 and various other aircraft. I have a healthy background in electrical and computer engineering and maintenance. Currently I live in Japan, and I was lucky enough to come across a very rare care in the United States; an R32 gtr. So far, the car seems to be in good condition, even the interior is very nice for 25 year old car. It does have some cosmetic problems, and of course I want to do a custom interior retrim. I'm completely capable of trial and error, and taking my time with especially large projects such as an interior retrim. So I've been doing as much research as I can, and I decided to make an account here to get a first hand opinion from you guys. Currently, I've researched about the most prominent walking foot sewing machines, since I'll mostly be sewing vinyl. I've heard of the headaches that are solved by using a walking foot. I looked for pricing on the singer 111 series, and noticed that most of the pricing with motors and table almost always equal the price of a brand new Sailrite LS-1 basic. I've seen a few singer 95-15 around sewing leather, but how well does it honestly work with folded layers of vinyl and foam? I feel that it's a bit incredible that most of these older sewing machines, or general "used" new sewing machines are over 800 dollars. I feel that 600 USD for a brand new LS-1 is acceptable, but I was wondering what other machines I could use with heavy automotive / marine vinyl. Specifically, some allsport 4 way and some thick carpeting / foam padding. What other machines can you think of that don't break the bank? I'd say the main reason i'm looking for a ~600 maximum is because I would pay for someone to take the time and ship it to me (ie: paying extra for your efforts, plus the shipping cost). Of course, if push comes to shove, if anyone is in Florida, I can get one of my buddies to pick it up and ship it to me. What are y'alls opinion on my machine choices?

Hi all, I'd be grateful for some help getting my Pfaff 1445 going. I previous posted about feet, which I got from Hong Kong. They're mediocre but acceptable quality given the rarity of the machine. The machine wouldn't have been a bargain if it were free considering the time and expense that's gone into it. But hey, we've got another machine so I'll consider this thing a hobby. I've got the hook correctly timed, but I'm finding that it's very difficult to correctly balance relative top and bottom thread tension, or top dog pressure may be incorrect, or the bobbin case opener isn't correctly timed or distanced. Or all of these. Compound feed is accurately synchronized, needle bar centered in all dimensions, all stroke lengths are correct, bottom feed dog height properly set to ~.020" (.5mm) per the service manual. I've got a new needle plate, feed dog, and feet, which feed perfectly straight. I do need to take the needle plate over to the buffer and ease some of the edges the thread goes around. No problems with inconsistent tension between the cone of thread and tension rings. Top thread is correctly routed per the operating manual (unusual design and route). Bobbin thread is correctly placed and pulled. Pictures attached. Symptoms are: • Occasional skipped stitches and slightly inconsistent bottom stitch; the bottom and top quality don't match consistently • Backtack thread tension is very loose • Starting the stitch occasionally results in a squirrel's nest mess of thread on the bottom • When I get the top and bottom tension balanced such that the thread is more or less locking in the middle of my material, I occasionally find when turning the handwheel that the top thread is very tight as it crosses over the top of the bobbin and the motor may even slip on the belt I strongly suspect some kind of binding or tension issue is causing thread to get pulled off the bobbin or through the top inconsistently. I'm running a 3/4" HP servo motor with what I believe are the correct thread/needle combination for layers of 3 - 6 oz chrome tanned and retanned vegetable tanned leathers (the same size combination has always worked quite nicely on another machine).
