I'm coming along- wouldn't consider myself a newbie but far from a master. I've been punching size 207 and 277 pretty consistently through my Cobra C4 machine with good luck thus far. I am getting ready to put in an order with Weaver and want to make sure I get everything I need in order to take advantage of their best buy pricing and free shipping... it pays to put in those big quarterly orders. I have been purchasing Nylon thread by the pound from Weaver My question is... has anyone had luck with Tiger thread through 22/24/26 size needles? I don't currently use Tiger thread but have heard that it is really high quality. Can anyone attest to this? My concern is the "Lightly waxed" bit... will this gum up my rollers/ thread guides/ needle bar? What do I need to know- if anything- about this whole "Braided Polyester" business? Does is sew differently than Nylon? Would the size 207 nylon be size .5mm tiger? 277? Primarily, I am interested in the large availability of colors. I guess I should add- I make mainly tack so heavy/ thick stuff generally doulbled up HO Harness or Latigo but I have been making a lot of belts/ chaps etc and have been looking to invest in another machine more capable of handling the thinner/ softer oil tan/ chap sides. Any suggestions? I am weighing pros and cons of the Cobra C26 and Cobra C20. Thanks in advance.

It seems that Tiger/Ritza thread made by the Julius Koch company is widely regarded as some of the best material for hand stitching. I have to agree so far given the small samples I've been able to find and use - really like it. That Tandy thread I was using pales in comparison. All that said... Does any know where to buy this from in the United States? In small or large quantities? I can't find one source, let alone a reliable source, for Tiger/Ritza thread here. I've only been able to order it as small samples from the UK and shipping cost make that not a sustainable option. If not for those small samples, I'd think the stuff was mythical - since its about as hard to find as a unicorn. I'd even be willing to buy larger or industrial spools if that's all I can find. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Hey all, Just wondering what size (mm) tiger thread is recommended for 8 spi. I read a post that suggested .8 mm for 8 spi. Just wondering if anyone else has tested this. I am currently using tandy's craftool pro 8 spi chisel. What would be the advantages/disadvantages of going smaller to say, .6 mm thread? Thanks! Zayne

Hi guys! got some 0.8mm Ritza 25 "Tiger" thread for sale with free shipping. I got 0.8mm because 1.0mm was just a bit too big for me. I make things like pencil and tool cases/rolls, belts, and small purses/bags with thinner leather so I like my stitches to be small but still have strength and a nice full look, and 0.8mm tiger thread was the perfect size for me. 1.0mm seemed more for bigger items with thicker leather. Anyway, I figured I don't need a full spool, so I thought I'd sell some of the extra for people who want to try it out or need smaller amounts. If they sell, I'll get more. It's really a great thread, my favorite by far. Here's a list of what I've got. 0.8mm - JK 2 Beige - Very slightly Pink on white. 0.8mm - JK 7 Mid Brown - A nice rich Dark-ish Brown. 0.8mm - JK 77 Havanna Cigar - Tobacco Brown, lighter than Mid Brown 0.8mm - JK 79 Colonial (Tan) - Looks yellow in my pictures but is more like yellowish light brown. Coming soon... 0.8mm White JK 1 -out of stock 0.8mm Black JK 23 -out of stock 0.8mm Amber Glow JK 76 -out of stock Pricing: Including free shipping to the US! 20 meters / 65.6 feet = $6.45 40 meters / 131.2 feet = $9.00 60 meters / 196.8 feet = $12.99 80 meters / 262.5 feet = $16.50 1 meter Sample Card of each color thread (4 meters total) = $4.00 Scrap sample card 1 of each color (My leftover pieces of thread that are too short to use, average 2-3 inches long, still good for deciding on color and if the thread is right for you) = $1.40 If you need any other amount or want to request a color just ask! To order some just send me a P.M with how much you want and your email, Or email JEM_Leather@outlook.com. I will create a Paypal invoice which will be sent to your email for payment. Non-US residents can contact me for shipping prices I also just started an Etsy page you can order from too! I will have more items added soon. Paypal is probably the best way to do this so that you know you have buyer protection and stuff. Pictures: Keep in mind these are not exact as my camera doesn't really capture the color perfectly. The picture with the most exact colors are the ones of the sample cards at the bottom. Beige Mid-Brown Havanna Cigar

So before I purchased my stitching irons and hand stitching thread, I searched around for comparisons of the different threads and irons and how they looked side by side. I watched all the Armitage videos, but did not see all the different samples side by side to actually make a comparison. I have seen one or two comparisons of different brands of threads, but nothing that allowed apples to apples and apples to oranges looks. So, I made a card that compared 7 different stitching irons, all around 7 SPI, some 4MM, and using 3 different sizes of linen thread (Campbell's Satin Laid Linen Thread), and 1 Ritza Tiger thread 0.6mm for comparison. The 0.6mm Ritza and 7SPI seem to be a common combination, and linens are fairly common too, so I thought this would be a good place to start. If someone wants to see a particular combination, with a different type of thread or SPI, let me know and I'll see what I can do. It was interesting to me to see how different the marks were, yet how subtle the differences were in the actual pattern of the stitch. I am not a master stitcher yet, so some of the differences are no doubt due to my inconsistencies, but I think it is somewhat clear which irons do and don't work with which threads. The 132 thread is some pretty heavy stuff, but I enjoyed working with it and really liked how it came out on some of the rows. I still need some practice to get the back of my 532 stitching to be more even, but some of it is passable, I think. I hope this comparison is useful to someone out there. The various irons used on each row, top to bottom: Old Joseph Dixon 7SPI Abbey England EconoStitch 7SPI CS Osborne 609-7 7SPI European Style Stitching Iron from Ebay 4MM Kyoshin Elle 3.5MM Ebay stitching iron 3.85MM (about 7SPI) Ebay Stitching Punch 4MM Thread used from Left to right when viewed from the top of the stitch: Campbell's Satin Laid Linen Thread 532, beige Campbell's Satin Laid Linen Thread 332, beige Campbell's Satin Laid Linen Thread 132, beige Ritza Tiger 0.6MM braided polyester thread, Cream Front side and back side images before tapping down with a hammer, and after. I wanted to practice hand stitching with my new tools, so I made a guitar strap. It is lined and has about 11 feet of stitching, so plenty of practice! It is the first guitar strap I have made, so please let me know what you think. I still have to put the slots on each end... Is there a well-recommended thread here on the board? I'm interested in Tiger Thread as Ian Atkinson of Leodis Leather recommends it, but I can't find a place to order it in the US. My project is a satchel, and I want at least 1 mm nylon thread, if not polyester for the strength. Thanks!

Hi all! Like many here before me, long time lurker coming out the shadows. Great community/ forum here! Lots of great info and advice! Now to the matter at hand: I recently bought small quantities of Ritza 25 (wich I haven't recieved yet) at what I think is a fair price (compared to other offerings out there). Small quantities seem to suit my needs better for now since I'm just starting out but in the long run, having to pay extra for smaller bits AND pay for shipping for every single transaction might end up costing me an arm and leg. So, this got me thinking of full spools. Harder to find but got a hold of someone selling some at what I once again think is a fair price. Thing is, I have absolutely no idea what those go for - I can't seem to find the 'retail price' anywhere -, so my idea of what's fair and what's not might be pretty far from reality. Any of you ritza 25 users care to give me a idea of what it could be worth?

This was the second leather tooling project that I ever took on. Three months and 90 hours later......
