  1. I have quite a few spools from Thread Exchange, and some from Superior as well. Lately, I bough some 277 and 346 of Bob's "Cowboy" thread. Haven't use a lot of it just yet (I only bought natural and black in nylon) but it seems quite painless. Rolls off the spool smoothly and pulls in tight.
  2. Kaint say I understood the part about snipping a snap
  3. I bought some in the 80's - right off the shelf - seemed to work fine They're packed for the move, so I can't tell you what they actually say. But I just look for a texture -- the stamping on them only matters to collectors.
  4. Sometimes, a guy kin git a break.. just sometimes. IF ya had a 'blue' gun in XDs fashion, aguycould download a pattern fer it over there
  5. Glad ta help. Gotta keep an eye open most the time ... there's some folks relyin' on us leather folks to not check on these things!
  6. I was fixinta upload another holster pattern er two afore the lights go out around here (moving truck here in the morning). But...not sure my wife is on board with that Wait.. ya know--- she ainta bossa me! XDs pattern uploaded shortly Okay, there ya go!
  7. You boys almost got me wanting to try the weldwood! I really do like Renia glue, but it's not in may stores - and certainly not local for me. But the barge is - I think - not a good idea. I know it sticks REALLY well (used a lot of it) but it seems the fumes aren't good. Leather folks seem to develop a talent for arguing with statements which were never stated
  8. Yeah, some folks ya kaint tell 'em nuthin'... usedta call 'em "fireaters".. just aint happy if everything goes smoothly Which for some folks means lots of money for lots of tools -- just so they can say they have 'em , sometimes. I really like my utility knife (Menards) and my x-acto blades (anywhere at all). It's not teh $10 I paid for that 100-pack of blades - it's the countless hours I was making projects instead of sharpening knives! I generally don't find it necessary to oil a holster, except the ones which have been tooled (repeated wetting). I'm not opposed to it, either. I do like to have dies for some of teh more popular models. The more turns and twists.. the greater the time savings (again, it aint about having dies, but rather about gitter done - correctly and quickly). I got one more die aint showed up yet... and I admit I spent a bit of time designing it Thing about Sam's videos, he got that 'good ole boy" routine pretty much down. But the real issue is he actually shows the process, in the order along with the 'why' of it -- so even a fella unfamiliar to holsters could make one when done watching. In contrast, most of the munkys just interested in how many minutes they can keep you sitting there while they throw poo
  9. I may not have been clear there. The prices I just quoted were for ANYBODY... and the price is for anyone wanting to insure that package for $200 with the usps. No business account required. My Gramma can get that price
  10. I have the Commander blue gun, and it weighs 11 oz WITH the dowel attached to it. I assume that you have the "weighted" version of teh blue gun, which is done for "realistic" training purposes. Hardly necessary for holster molding, but not harmful, either. As a general rule, flat rate boxes are MORE expensive than the other priority boxes. With holsters, most of the space you are shipping is air. The flat rate boxes will save you money if you're shipping heavier items. When I ship one holster, or say a holster and a mag pouch, i use these boxes... https://store.usps.com/store/browse/uspsProductDetailMultiSkuDropDown.jsp?categoryNavIds=shipping-supplies%3apriority-mail&categoryNav=false&navAction=push&navCount=0&atg.multisite.remap=false&categoryId=priority-mail&productId=P_O_1096L And yes, I was using a business account, so my packages insured for $100 (not $50). But today I shipped 2 blue guns priority, and added insurance, and still only $9 for the PAIR. For two or 3 holsters, I like these: https://store.usps.com/store/browse/uspsProductDetailMultiSkuDropDown.jsp?categoryNavIds=shipping-supplies%3apriority-mail&categoryNav=false&navAction=push&navCount=0&atg.multisite.remap=false&categoryId=priority-mail&productId=P_O_BOX4 Definitely cheaper than the medium flat rate box. But you can use any box and still ship priority mail. But I'm not talking about 2 guns, or 3. I'm takling about 40 guns. So, if they cost me $39 each, and I charge $40 each, then people are saving about $10 per gun, and there's no way to get me to think the shipping on that order would be more than $40 (which I would make at $1 per gun 40 times). Same principle with leather. Retailers will send you one side of leather for $20. Hermann Oak sends me 10 sides for $50 - so I'm getting great leather for LESS money AND avoiding about $150 in shipping charges. Oh -- in my 'example' of 5 guns, say they weigh 4 lbs (they probly wont but they could). Total cost $200. Shipping from me to 85201 would be $12.54 for priority mail, insured for $200, using a regional A box (which is free from teh post office just for the asking). I just checked If you use the medium flat rate, it's a bit more. Priority mail 56377 to 85201 in med flat rate with $200 insurance is $16.95 Which still aint so bad... considering you're talking about 5 guns, so about $3.40 each.
  11. Boxing up the rest this weekend -- so do speak up now or hold yer piece ... or something like that
  12. There's something to be said for in hand
  13. 8 oz is 8 oz (except over the pond, where it's 3mm). Just a thought, tho.. 2 x 4 oz means a guy only has to buy one weight of leather
  14. Yep, they sure would be. Depending, of course, on what they are for -- lots of holster boys (n girls) round here, those are always popular, for example..
  15. Okay, seriously -- I love it. AT THE RISK of being the jerk who added something less "positive" sounding (though it's intended to be helpful) --- I wonder if teh whites of the eyes aren't a bit bright for the rest of the pic. Lemme guess... that part is acrylic? STILL.. the coloring is fantastic -- I'm with Monica.. those aged and work-worn gloves nailed it! And I know that black background is no walk in the park, neither! WELL DONE.
  16. What song? You heard a song? I haven't seen the shoulder rig discussion -- perhaps I'll watch that one day. I DO recommend his video on "saddle" holsters when someone asks about how to this or that. Yeah, I could make a video, pirate someone else's music, and do the same thing Sam does, but that would just be re-inventing the wheel. This, of course, if what poo-tube is... a couple guys actually offering useful, logical information, and a million others wanting in the spotlight (we used to call this a "small man complex", but I suppose that's no longer acceptable?) Now, on the other hand, I saw the one he did on McCheese, or whatever he called that IWB model (no offense Sam, just playin') and I personally thought that was a bit remedial... like they were both okay, but if you saw one, no point seeing the other. Sam made the point himself (correctly).. that you can teach anybody leather in a couple days, the rest is just practice.
  17. Well, there is ONE other worth seeing. I mean, it's not that long.. only takes a couple minutes in to get to the guns and holsters part. Says as much about holsters as most (Sam being the exception), and the music playing is actually the property of the correct people! But then, if you can watch that video, with a saloon full o' girls that look like that, and still be thinking about making holsters -- then you have far larger issues than I'm gonna be able ta help ya with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWNKHi2joJE
  18. But I see my daughter did manage to use my account to "like" a bunch of cute puppy videos
  19. I don't much mind paying shipping -- I wouldn't likely do it much for free, so don't expect anyone else to do it free, including the post office. If someone getting the guns from the manufacturer, having them sent to them, then marking each one up $10 is acceptable, then certainly you wouldn't fault a guy for charging for a legitimate service. The shipper takes your package from one location to another -- no problem paying for that reasonable service. But the "retailer" or "supplier" just gets something I could get myself and then charges me more for it because he / she can. And they "can" only if I allow it. Now, someone will say that blueguns are supposed to be $50 each. But they aren't - they're $40 each, plus whatever "suppliers" feel they can tack on. I simply can't see the logic of paying someone 20% more for something when they aren't doing anything to make it better. But this was never an opinion poll, or a vote. Just information I sometimes point out here and a few other places, stuff which might be useful to leather people. I'm not trying to persuade anybody - I'm just stating what I will be doing. If absolutely nobody is interested in "getting in on it", I'll do it anyway for myself In the same way as ordering leather from Hermann Oak makes sense, so does this. But while I'm interested in saving $10 per gun, I think I've done enough of this thread
  20. Just checkin' in.. still nobody found one, eh? Yeah, me too. Oh, no ... how scarey is it when you see a video titled .. 'blahblahblah.. PART ONE"
  21. Yeah, "detail" would be nice, but I'd actually settle (for now) for just one that actually SAYS something, other than 'here's yet another guy with a camera' I've made a couple patterns here n there, and I don't actually know where I would add 1/8" or 1/4" (except, I do figure in quarters, since that's the spacing of the graph paper). IF anything, I measure teh gun and subtract a bit for radii 'n' stuff. I don't know the vids you talk about, so maybe tha's just two guys sayin the same thing a differnt way (?). At my place, it's more than a 'guess', but I admit that I don't always hit on just what I want the 'first time around'. But after making the first one, it's generally pretty clear where any revisions are needed (if any). But we mighta been from the same era... I don't like "skosh" and 'dab' neither (though I do talk about 'stuff'). But no matter what name a guy gives it, I want holsters with a stitch line that conforms to the gun it was made for. I don't care for holsters with a stitch line (even the ones some people want money for) but then they had to 'bone' the holster INSIDE the stitch line (that holster will loosen up PURDY QUIK like - up to the stitch line). I mean, that's what the stitch line is FOR.. otherwise, we could just do like them other folks.. just put a stitch line ANYWHERE IN THE VICINITY, and tehn bone INSIDE of that (this - to be clear - is sarcasm.. I will not be doing that). I wanna see this ... UNLESS YOU STRETCH EM, these holsters will not loosen up.
  22. Yeah, I thought the Andrews video was longer than it maybe "needed" to be, but in teh end - it's GOOD info, presented clearly and chronologically in order, so no complaints. It's the ones that ask you to watch for 20 or more minutes and never do say anything useful that irritate...
  23. Nice color! And the flap holster looks good too! Oh, that's one of the ones I'm re-designing.. pull them edges in a bit (it works, since so many people like that 8/9 leather, but I like 'em a bit tighter). In fact, I'm thinkin' I'm gonna make all the 1911's in about a 75/25 split (seams NOT down the middle)
  24. No, but I'm surrounded by boxes of stuff.. does that count? Wife is gone up that way, so that definitely counts For the price o the house, maybe I should just feel lucky she only bot ONE?!@!
  25. Hey, Bruce Actually, I was gonna do that, but Sam had it covered so well that it looked like making one would just make me another one of those in the long line of videos that don't add nuthin' Perhaps down the road I'll have another idea (hey, could happen...)
