  1. Welcome here also. From a Sulfur Springs / Lutz member. We all share the same goal. Compressing Leather. Tony at Tandy in Tampa is a good guy. Check out for sales-log on to there site. Joe
  2. I carve tobacco pipes and now working on my 15th one. I also belong to a Pipe forum and those guys go nuts over pipes-tobacco and accessories. So I done this to show them and doing another With a pipe brand name and model from a members remark. May have stumbled on to something. They like the pipes I make and like the leather work I do there are real good craftsmen there. There is an Ambassador on here that has one of my pipes. Thanks for looking Joe St.
  3. Cheryl, You got to do what makes a living or providing income. Leather work takes practice of course. Basket weave takes a lot of measurements. Joe.
  4. Thank you Cheryl. The items that you produce make mine look like throwaways. You also think out of the box as they say. Joe
  5. It does not matter what type of belt you wear when smoking but pants have different width belt loops. Since I retired, I have lost weight and the last belt I made was wider and a heavy buckle. Buckle is a Champion Spark Plug logo (brass) given to me by Champion for outstanding sales. The belt was themed with the parts I have sold tooled in. I started carving pipes a year ago and the other belt was to heavy and I like to tool leather. I put the two together for a theme. I am dyslexic,so all the artful tooling is a no go.If is functional it's ok with me. By the way my wife will not let me do a purse for her. Would hate to see what the theme was . Sorry about large pictures.iit is not a statement of any type the lighter colored pipes ar some of the ones i carved. The pipe that has bowl on top is anther one. Joe
  6. . Almost done needs to be oiled. Just the weave and pipes and let sun darken Joe
  7. Well after carving 20+ pipes, I needed to take a break. Now i am back to leather. still doing a hackers job but it is fun. i like to do themes that people do or like , this goes along the same line. Thanks for looking. Joe
  8. Finished these and finishing up on the last one . Now to the belt that's about to whip me. It seems that i am stuck on one style of pipe, soooo to the back burner they go. Those make 20+ pipes since a year ago. Think about making a bandoleer or utility belt to hang pipes and accessories. Joe
  9. Started a belt. printed out theme .traced and cased the leather.

  10. I have basically the same problem with drawing. I can draw a cure on the right and of object but not on the left hand. side. Example is i am trying to do a ULU knife. To get the contours on the handle about the same, I have to flip the blade blank over an draw. As my work is a hackers job at doing something, I found its the hand flow that maters. In watching my Mother paint and do pencil etchings it seems that she did the main focal point than fill in around. Training hand and eyes to work together and keeping sizes of parts of a drawing similar is another art. If I need the drawing done right I send it to my sister. She inherited that skill. Joe
  11. Well this whole project was bad news from start to finish. The concept was good but the application is not worth it. Put it forward towards buckle, hard to get to front pocket. Towards the back and no way to get rear pocket for wallet. Molding was easier than I thought. installing snaps same. The notch on bottom was the leather buckling when molded. That was a good cut.because of the form of the blade it's hard to get out so ii use my finger to push up on knife. The other good thing is that the off weave matches the off weave of my belt. I t was fluke that i picked the weave.was not thinking about my belt. Fixed the loop holes Joe St Joe
  12. Tobacco pipes on back burner. leather to the front.working onn doing my shop to do both.no production just fun and "steamPunk"

  13. Hi You All, Always wanted a holster for the NAA so having second thoughts about wet forming I put it off Well I took The plunge and It was not hard as i thought it was. Used a shop lamp to dry leather. I did forget to take the bullets out. In the research i done I don't think anyone mentioned to do that. Anyway I need to lengthen the belt hole and finish edges. Joe
  14. Done several like these. Using blade blanks and broken blades. The blade for this came off a filet knife. drilled antler coin and epoxied Joe
  15. It has been awhile but it seems that pipe crafting is a little better than my leather work. The other thing is that i ran out of ideas and relatives. Well not ideas. the other thing that is I have free wood and no free leather. Now I did have to send Luke H. a pipe to calm him down. He is a true leather man and woodsman and friend. Smokey Joe Stewart
  16. It has been a while since I work with leather. One more stem to add a pipe to than back to leather. So far from February of this year I have done 16. One in which Luke has one. The picture is the last one almost done. I finished it off yesterday. Made of Wild Cherry Wood. This one is going to an old friend and coworker. Anyway I am looking forward to learther again. One flask, one wallet and maybe a belt that another coworker wants-racing fan-He is a cousin of Ruterman and helps work on his cars. Joe Stewart

  18. Hi, Last operating system went down Bought new one and old programs almost lost. Had Print Shop downloaded on old system, no disc. Never again. Found Print shop at Staples--- same program $9.00 old one $15.00. It had 2 disc. 1 install and i clip art. IT was Print Shop vs 23. Whats so go is that it has rulers on top and bottom so you can size to project working on .Also it has Headliner text that has shapes that will twist or curve words- change colors- and fonts. Windows 7 !!!! Better than a cold beer. Joe
  19. Well , My wife is not getting headaches from the pounding now. She is getting them from the whirl of the rotor tool and belt sander. 13 tobacco pipes done and a stack of wood. The rays coasters I started is has been cased so much they have grown gills. The problem with all of this is that every craft seems to have more masters craftsmen ( sorry girls) than amatures. So Its like hitting your head against the wall trying to gets as good. sooooooo If I like it than fine. The more I do i seem to forget how I did it the first time and every one is started different. problem is ---- I for get how i did it the best. so every pippe is like doing the first. They say when studing and drink beer, when you tkae a test than you have to be in the same condition. Fooie I dis proved that thery a lot on these pipes. Also passing middlle age of 65 may be the problem. Anyway The headache part may also be me staying home 24 hrs aday instead of10 Still here and checking in all the time. joe ps my wifes title mow is Project Manger.
  20. Wondering why my handyman can not start work before 11am? He does a fine job but 1/2 day wasted.

  21. Still here. Tobacco pipes has taken up most of my crafting time allowed by wife.

  22. Forgot about how I shaped it. used a dermal with flex shaft -spiral wood cutting dill bit- wide tooth cutter. Drill press for bowel hole. Hand drilled air passage on stem. Bench wood saw, 1inch x 30inch belt sander and a 4inch band sander. did between 3pm and 5pm on bench while enjoying the afternoon. I can not measure worth a filp, so I just eye ball it. Joe
  23. Not going to line it. Just smoke it. Let the tobacco build up a cake inside. Joe This pipe is what i call a Colonial
