  1. Josh that turned out great. When ever I have made that pattern I also have found that the straps need to be lengthend.
  2. You should not have to re dye or refinish anything except the edges. Just sand the edges till you get them smoothed out and looking good. Re bevel the edge do a little more light sanding to blend in the beveled edge re dye your edges burnish until you get the look you want and reseal the edges.
  3. I would also reccomend rounding your corners, Sharp square corners will be come blunted and wrinkled just kind of crappy looking very quickly. Especially being carried in, and taken in and out of a pocket.
  4. Not a dumb question. Some people do use it as a fianl finish. After wet moldng your holster should be pretty firm. When you oil it you should do just a finger tip aplication. You are trying to put a little nutrient back into the leather. You should not use enough oil to soften the holster. If you use Aussie ,others can chime in here because I don't use it at all. Apply light coats. Again this is a holster you do not want to make it supple. Your questions are not dumb they are essential in doing things right. We have all been there. None of us was born with a swivel knife in their hand other then maybe Al Stohlman.
  5. That would be good KB You have posted this in three places and we have nothing new to look at. If you can post pictures wha tyou are now dealing with it would be helpful.
  6. Like Texback said oil before sealing. and as Tex said give the oil time to migrate into the leather. No offense to the employees of Tandy, however if you want answers to a questions this is the place to come. You may occasionaly get a not quite correct answer here however there is always someone around to correct it.
  7. Very nice looking slings. I like the Reaper.
  8. What you are wanting to do is called Hot Foil Stamping or Embossing. Do a search on you tube for hot foil stamping or hot foil embossing, you will see how it is done. There are hot foil machines that will cost several hundred to thousands. A cheaper way is similar to a branding ironplacing foil on the leather then pressing down with the branding iron. You might call these people and tell them what you want to do. http://lwleathers.com/products/leather-embossing They advertise on these forums at the top of the page.
  9. Thanks, already tried Maverick they do have some light pebble gain, however it is a little to soft and stratchy for my needs.
  10. Anyone know who sells pebble grained calfskin? I have tried the usual, Springfield, Goliger, Zackshite, Hide House. Actualy I maysettle for any pebble grained leaather.
  11. KB what is your method for casing? A lot of people make the mistake of wiping a little water on the surface let it start to dry if it turning back toward natural color and feels cool you are ready to carve. not necassarily so. It takes more then moisture on the surface. If yo have not already done so read Hidepounders thread on casing leather http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=19121 There are other ways of casing leather the important thing is to get the corect moisture content throughout the leather not just on the surface.
  12. Ok, I just made a liar out of myself. Goodsjapan has them in 4mm, 5mm 6mm and 8mm they are mixed in with other shapes so scroll down and you will find them. http://goodsjapan.com/leathercraft-shaped-leather-hole-punch-large-5-point-star-no12-8mm-x-8mm-554-p.asp The punch on etsy apears to be high carbon steel, it is not uncomon to have a little surface rust. As long as there is no pitting ( indications of severe rusting and lack of care). A little oil a wipe down with 0000 steel wool and you should be good to go.
  13. I have that set from Tandy and they work well. I really don't think you are going to find any smaller unless you have them custom made.
  14. If you are looking for a common name liek lemon juice it does not have one, it is sometimes called sodium acid. It is derived from mined phosphate. It is also phound in canned seafood and is used as a leavening agent in making bread. THere are many phosphate derivatives used in food. DISODIUM DIHYDROGEN PYROPHOSPHATE is characterized as GRAS (generaly reagarded as safe) There are warnings that excessive use can cause mineral imbalance in the body and bone loss.
  15. High Desert Leather also has them http://highdesertleather.com/?product_cat=diy Both Rob Bennett of the Blue Gun Store and LVN Leatherworker of High Desert Leather are members on these forums.

  22. Here is Royalwoods wholesale page minimum $100.00 order mix and match. Probably about the best price you will get from them. http://www.royalwoodltd.com/cat14-17aw.htm
  23. Longtooth not sure how long of a screw you need, Tandy, Springfield etc sell screws for that purpose. They say to convert conchos to snaps. However I use them to attach the snap to a T nut. You can get the black pull the DOT on ebay. Also Index Fastners sells Pull the DOT in Black and kind of a military tan color. http://www.ifithermoplastics.com/products/snap-fasteners
