Iwb/owb Holster
camano ridge replied to Calvus's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Looks like it will work just fine. The term hybrid is usually used for holsters that are made of leather and thermal plastics like yours. I use convertible as a term for IWB/OWB combinations. -
That is not totally true I own two trade marks bought and paid for for two businesses I have owned in the past and if you check with the Department of revenue of the state of Washington those two are still showing as registered and enforceable trademarks. I also have one federally registered with USTPO. It is my understanding that if a federally registered trademark is not used for a period of time usually 2-3 years minimum then the use of that trademark can be challenged in court. How ever a new trademark will not be issued for a registered trademark until it has been successfully challenged.

Your pictures are upside down and mediocre quality so it is hard to tell but looking at how uniform the backgrounding is I would say it was probably embossed. Also looking at the lines around the rear of the wings and the tails it looks more like a embossing plate. However therea are many on these forums that could hand tool a belt every bit as good or better then this one.

Are you looking to do a fly wallet like below or were you going to do a leather covered fly box. The fly wallet is relatively easy to do it can be tri fold, bi fold or what ever you want. You can use shearling (or synthetic shearling) as pictured. You can even use magnetic sheets or strips to hold the hook instead of shearling.

Actually I used to think the same thing until I switched from a rawhide mallet to a round maul and I have never looked back. As to carpenters using round hammers/mauls some wood workers and cabinet makers do use round and flat faced mauls.

Bandoleer Holsters
camano ridge replied to RVM45's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
There are a couple other options that would work for his needs also that would allow for adjustments for different seasonal clothing. The first one is the Alaskan Guide, the second one was designed by Cliff Fendely of Fendely knives. The holster can be worn on the chest harness or on the belt. -
The sale of the company name can be done as part of a price or negotiated separately. There is nothing that says you have to sell the company name as part of the business. Just make sure that who ever buys the shop or equipment from the shop that the name of the business does not go with the shop. If you don't want to sell the company name and you don't want anyone else using it make sure you have registered it as a trademark. It is no guarantee that no one will use the name but it gives you legal rights to the company name.

Because he has the end of the strap fastened toward the bottom of the holster. I think he has it set up so the strap comes up over the waistband behind the belt then in front of the belt and snapping at the top. If if you fasten one end of the strap behind the male part of the snap you can use a shorter strap.

Bandoleer Holsters
camano ridge replied to RVM45's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Yes it is workable. I will have to look it up in the index, one of the older Leathercrafters and Saddlers Journal has a pattern for a bandoleer holster. I have made two from that pattern. -
Branding or hot stamping, hot foil stamping etc. Up in the banners at the top of the page is LW leatherworks. I would give them a call. Have you tried Weldwood contact cement. I have not run into anything it has not glued. First rough the two surface to be glued together with some sandpaper. Once you apply the Weldwood contact cement to both surface let the cement dry. It should be dry to the touch no moisture or tackiness felt. carefully align the pieces and press together rub with palm of hand or what ever. Then walk away and do something else for several hours to allow the glue to cure. Your pieces should be well stuck together.

There is a Hackbarth stamp that will do pretty much the same pattern, maybe a little fancier. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/148126275216857418/ http://proleathercarvers.com/hackbarth-stainless-tool-6-point-star-geometric-stamp-1.html

Need Help With A Tooling Pattern
camano ridge replied to LoneWolf1973's topic in Patterns and Templates
Very nice Tboyce. LoneWolf, looking forward to seeing finished project. -
Modad, if you are using the WIll Gohrmley Eldarado pattern pack. There are three belt patterns The first one is more or less a ranger belt with a Chape (buckle end) and the tongue (billet). The second one is a cobbled belt that started out as the first belt then extended by lacing a narrowed down (1 1/2") section to the main belt body. To me 7/8 oz unlined would be a little light for that style belt. 9/10 or above would be better. The third style belt is the rough out money/cartridge belt. 7/8 oz folded over would be a little heavy for that. You would have a difficult time getting a flat fold. FYI Spring field leathersells cartridge loop strips pre cut in different widths. I think around $5.00 for 50 or 60" strip. if you are only doing one or two cartridge belts it is cheaper then buying a 4/5 oz side to cut strips off of.

Patent Infringement: Shotgun Concho Dog Collar
camano ridge replied to HellcatLeathers's topic in Patterns and Templates
If it is him, now he will have more time to bother people with his patent using the free internet he will have access to provide to him by us. THor. When looking at the patent the patent itself does not state Dog Collar it states band with cartridge element. He has tried to use that description to make claims against anyone making any kind of band belt or bracelet. The term Dog collar is only shown under references reviewed by the examiners. But as far as I am concerned it is a moot point. -
At the top of the page in the advertising Banners you will see a large LW with leatherworks underneath it. Here is their site http://lwleathers.com/products/leather-embossing

Thor, locate a bee keeping supply place in your area. Oxalic acid is used in controlling the Varro bee. It is available from beekeeping supply places. I looked on line and found several in Germany that carry it. Here is a link to one. http://www.bienen-voigt.de/bienenpflege/saeuren-und-zubehoer/453/oxal-acid

Leather Stain Recomendations
camano ridge replied to DUNGEONSnDECORATIONS's topic in How Do I Do That?
Antiques whether Feibings or Tandy and Hi lite from Tandy are all designed to do what you want. You wipe them on then wipe them off leaving color in the depressions. However they may darken or color the surface areas lightly if you do not use a resist. -
A hardware store probably will not have what you want. You need a diamond awl. The diamond refers to the shape of the awl blade. I am amazed that Your Tandy had no diamond awl at all. They have a couple of different ones, as well as just awl blades that can be chucked in a handle with a collet.
