  1. If you can get them to send a picture of the holster with the actual gun in it. This will allow you to do two things. It will allow you to examine how the gun sits in the holster and you can see what you may want to change on the next one. Secondly and most importantly it will allow you to post a picture so the rest ogf us can see it.
  2. My comute is a little longer about 200 feet from the house to the shop and then there is the cyote and deer jams that hold trafic up, other then that it's not a bad comute.
  3. I think I passed that guy on my way down to the shop this morning. It's 29 this morning suposed to have a warming trend this weekend into the 40's. After about an hour and a half in the shop had to go back up to the house and sit by the fire to thaw out. Happy New Year.
  4. Here is the listing http://fayetteville.craigslist.org/for/4812642230.html
  5. I use 100% Pure Neatsfoot oil (not the compound), in most cases I just use a fingertip application covering both sides of the belt (if you have a suede liner do not put on the suede). I usually give it over night to let the oil migrate through the leather.
  6. I would recomend cutting your belt to length as the first step and shaping the tounge end if you are making from a blank strap. You will then be able to lay out a boarder and or stitching groove lines and tool with in the border or stitch lines. If you tool and stitch first you wil be cutting off some of your stitching and tooling as well as lining material it will be a wate of some of your work and materials. I measure and cut my belt strap to size, then lay out my tooling and stitch lines, dye when tooling is finished, glue liner material and stitch, then bevel and burnish edges punch holes attach hardware.
  7. Yes, I have seen that same picture and the caption said Hackbarth. It lists them as $114.00 for the set of two. http://proleathercarvers.com/tools/hackbarth-stainless-leather-stamping-tools-medium-seashell-set-2-tools.html
  8. If the link opens for you click on knife info you will see the tutorial as well as one for lacing.
  9. Weldwood works well. If you don't want to buy a full can. WalMart carries a 3 or 4 oz bottle for around $4.00. Theree is also shoe goo I have used it years ago for repairing a pair of shoes and it worked quite well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoe_Goo
  10. I have a set of the ones from Tandy like the design you show. I will have to go down to the shop and see what the number is. Like LNV said those are discontinued. However they do still list a set except for a design in the center they are basicaly the same. https://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/69008-00.aspx
  11. + 1 for Stohlmans How to make holsters. I met to include that in my post above. JSL beat me to it. It will show you how to draw a pattern as well as how to stitch a holster. There are a couple of patterns in the book that are similar to what you want to make and can easily be modified to fit the gun you want to make it for. If you don't know the model of the revolver, post a picture of it one of us should be able to tell you the model. What you have given so far is S&W .38 CTG (Cartridge) 4"
  12. You still have not given a complete model number. It is going to be like S&W model 10 -4" or Model 15- 4 etc. However since you are not asking for an actual pattern we don't need to know the exact model although it is stil fun to find out what model yyou are working on. If you just want instructions on drawing the pattern we can help with that. Get a manilla file folder lay the gun sights down on the midle of the file folder right on the crease center the gun gently roll it over on one side drwa the outline of the gun. now take a pencil and make a mark along the outside of the drawing of the gun about one mark every inch or so. The mark should be about 3/4" from the trigger guard and fram about 1/2" from the barrel. Now conect the marks. And adjust the outline untl you get a shape you like for the holster. Take a sharp knife cut along the shape of the holster leaving the holster ashape attacht to the rest of the file folder now fold over against the other half of the file folder draw the outline of the holster on to the other half of thefile folder, extendi lines for the fold over belt loop . To get a more visual idea of what I am saying go to the Gun holster slings sheaths forum at the top of that forum is pinned a topic How to make a cowboy holster. It is not the holster you want however it shows you exactly how to draw the pattern. Also Adams Leatherworks has a good free video tutorial on making a holster that shows how to draw your own pattern..
  13. He evidently forgot he posted them in October. Vergez-Blanchard has a set of for or five wheels including the handle for the price he sayshe paid for three without handle.
  14. No offense to the OP, but I find this post somewhat suspect. Giving benefit of the doubt maybe it is a language barrier or currency conversion error. Amazon shows no Al Stohlman book priced over $79.50 that I could find. His post says he is re posting these items. If he is using DHL he is probaly shipping from overseas. I agree with NVLW the items are way over priced.

  16. Very nice, that should get you off to a good start.
  17. Most of those style are fixed degree and may not be the same degree as your knife was ground to. Also it will put a secdary bevel on your blade. If youare using something like Croc sticks you can adjust the angle.
  18. His screen name on these forums is Jared http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=48865 His company name is Defensice Carry Concepts. I had a list of the molds they have, however I can't find it right now. They concentratemainly on trying to do the models that no one els currently has a mold for. He does not appear to be on these forums very often, it wouldprobably be best to contact them through there business email. Sales@defensivecarryconcepts.com
  19. Mattsh, thanks for the kind words. The SAA and the three mags are resin casts from Bunkhouse tools. The Kimber is a cast made by a guy in Missouri that makes holster molds for various guns as he gets is hands on different models. Bruno and Eddie thank you very much.
  20. I won't adress the drying of the leather when wet, that has been covered above fairly well. However I will respond to your question about drying thde leahter after oiling. You do not want to use heat or anything else to dry the oil. You need to let that process occur naturely. THe purpouse of oiling is to put nutrients back into the leather. You need to give the oil time to migrate through the fibers of the leather. Adding heat will not help this process it will only dry the leather and not allow the migration to happen as needed. The purpose of putting oiled leather in the sun is to give it a tan and darken it.
  21. Zulu dog, another reason for not using the real gun, let's say i have a customer in Florida that wants a holster and I live in Washington state. a couple of thousand miles a part. He can't ship me the gun with out a lot of hassle and expense beyond the cost of the holster. Even here in my own state of Washington we have a new law that says technically that a person can't even hand me a gun without doing a background check and for me to give it back to that person I would have to do a background check on them. In many cases it is easier to use a holster mold dummy gun or what ever you want to call them.Ihave even had customers willing to buy the blue gun because it is cheaper andeasier then trying to send a real gun back and fourth.
  22. Take a look at Buffalo Brothers , not sure they have the exact, however I know they have some very close to it. http://buffalobrothers.net/epages/6e0660d3-c48c-462c-bcf4-e93d79a29461.sf/en_US/?ViewAction=View&ObjectID=99613&PageSize=36
  23. Do you have access to the G27. If so it is easy enought to draw your own pattern. You just need a simple fold over pouch style holster with a retention strap or thumb break. Then go to the ankle holster tutorial piined at the top of this forum. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=16233 It shows you how to make the ankle strap and attach a holster to it.
  24. Chief, thanks, and thanks again for info on the Mexican round braid. It was the aligator inlay holster I was braiding. Snubby thank you.
