  1. Easiest method for a one off: Use masking tape on your laser base. You didn't say what laser you have. Diode, CO2? Ferg

    Laser engraved oak

The image was done in Solid Hickory wood with a 60W Omtech Laser. I am not fond of Chinese equipment but I will recommend this one 'til the cows come home. I have had it for little over a month with "0" problems. It has done everything I wanted with perfection. Second photo is an impression in dampened leather made by the wooden engraving. I am not advocating everyone to make "stamps" from wood. I simply thought it to be pretty neat. Ferg
  5. I did not buy a GlowForge. They are highly advertised and look nice but I didn't wish to have to go through a company to get anything I want to use for additional money. That said: I bought a 3000Mw diode laser to practice on. Sufficient for that purpose, biggest problem is the low power and they are very slow. Dove into the big boys. Orion 60W CO2, Chinese Laser. With the crate it had a delivery weight of 400#. It is a floor model. Out of the crate it worked perfectly and has continued to do so. I simply could not afford an American made with nearly the same specs. I use LightBurn software and wouldn't be without it. Also use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Have a daughter who is a professional graphic artist. I intend to do some leather engraving, have been so busy with other items I haven't had time. My laser will do leather, wood, glass, anodized aluminum, cork, fabric, plastic, ceramic tile, marble, etc. Enclosing pics of a couple items I have made. Second one is on 1/4" Baltic Birch, first, is a vintage photo on 3/4" Hickory Ferg
  6. I know there are some of you that may like to venture into Laser Engraving Leather I have bought a larger commercial Laser and wish to sell this one. I have it's original box. Will take it apart and ship anywhere in the USA. I have extra laser controllers I bought to make sure I wouldn't need to wait on shipping if I needed to change plus a 13" HP LapTop computer that was refurbished by certified company. It has Windows 10 Pro installed. Works perfectly. The software for the laser is PC based. I did not build a box/enclosure, you would probably want to do that or have someone build it for you. USB cable and power supply included. Priced to sell! Both the computer and the laser included for $700 plus shipping. I am listing on a Laser site also. Any questions just let me know. Ferg

    Leather stamps

Regrettably I am selling my leather stamps. I have collected them for almost 70 years. One hundred ninety two of them, may have missed some. Photo is representative of a portion of them. There are ten solid brass stamps that are excellent stamps. Remainder are Craftools, most from many years ago when they were made better. I am asking $1000 plus shipping. I won't break the set. Serious buyers only please. I can provide a number list of the tools if necessary. Also have a set of decorative hole punches, 37 different shapes and sizes in the set. They are great for filigree designs in leather. Two hundred fifty dollars for this set. Ferg
  9. Manuals Brands Singer Manuals Sewing Machine 153W102 Instructions for using and adjusting Description; Speed; Needles - Singer 153W102 Instructions For Using And Adjusting See if this helps. Ferg
  10. Couldn't find a price on one but similar are less than $200 new We had one some years ago, big, semi-automatic, I think printing area was 6" x 8", 220V single phase. Cost $6000 new we sold it to a company that helps handicapped folks for $2000 Yours is very small and is intended to print cards as in business cards or the like. Ferg
  11. Nice work, you are getting better!! Ferg
  12. That's cute How you doing in your new digs? Ferg
  13. Brian and anyone interested, I decided to buy a "cheapie" also. Mine is a 3000MW Diode laser from Universal Engravers. I am not building a box for mine as yet, thinking wooden since that is readily available in our wood shop. Is your black plastic enclosure rated or just looks nice? My present defigilty is the blasted cables. I presently have a piece of Piano wire, 1/8" diameter fastened to wall above the unit and hanging over same with twine tied onto wire, holding the cables up. The piano wire will "droop" when necessary to give slack in the cables. I am concerned with the cables tiny wire breaking right at the plugs. My cut area is supposed to be 600mm X 500mm (30" x 40"). That is difficult to obtain without the trollies bumping out of bounds. I am going to make the area 500mm x 400mm since I don't need the extra space at this time. Also have a camera ordered. I am going to burn a grid on the spoil board for now. When I get the camera I shouldn't need the grid as much. Ordered two pair of rated glasses/goggles to augment the pair that came with the unit. Don't allow anyone into the shop area without wearing same. We have sold product to Catalog companies all over the world for over forty years. Recently closed that business to retire for about the third or fourth time. Will see what develops out of this laser, not interested in building from scratch. May upgrade to a 15000MW Diode. Ferg
  14. I have decided to dive into the Laser engraving, albeit, very small. I bought a diode laser engraver that is only three watts for $250. I know it is limited somewhat in what you can do. I am going to set it up next week. Inexpensive way to get my feet wet. Ferg
  15. What is your best price? Ferg
  16. When did you get your unit ? Seems from comments on a site about the Boxzy, it isn't being manufactured anymore. Ferg
  17. Well, at least he is pretty! LOL Ferg
  18. In my humble opinion, you need to use no less than 138 thread and probably 207 for that thickness of leather. Needle size accordingly. Ferg
  19. Dwight, Your response stirred my memory. Probably 50 years ago I made wallets for my younger brothers. Couple years ago one of them gave me a plastic bag with a wallet inside. When I pulled it out I remembered making it. He asked if I would make him another just like it. Haven't done that yet, must do that before my hands won't allow. All of my requests for wallets etc. didn't turn out as well as this one. Ferg
  20. We have the wrist supports for both hands. They done me little to no good. I had my right hand surgery last Thursday. Left hand was a piece of cake, it is healed to almost invisible. Small problem with the incision on the right hand but wife and I fixed it this morning. Doctor had told me I may not get total reduction in the numbness in my fingers. So far he was correct. After left hand surgery the numbness went completely away in my right. Since right hand surgery I have some numbness in all fingers with exception of "little fingers". They are normally left out of the pain etc. I have arthritis in several of my fingers just to keep me aware. Lol I would recommend the surgery to anyone with the problem. Right hand took ten minutes. I had enough pain with the right to make me take a few pain pills, left was flawless. Ferg
  21. I have two custom blades Terry made for me and one small round knife I use mostly for skiving. I use nothing but strop to keep them cutting leather as though it was butter. Feerg
  22. Have thought about Terry and his trials and tribulations/fire in his shop, for some time. Decided to contact him to see how he is doing. Received the following note from him yesterday. I am sure he could use some positive news from any and all. Marion, Finally got the permits approved this week. Demolition will start this week, followed by the new garage/ workshop. Then I have to put the shop back together. It will be months more I'm afraid! Otherwise, a bit depressed but okay. Ferg
  23. A Carpal Tunnel Update: Left hand surgery last Thursday. Absolutely no pain, haven't taken any pain meds. Surgeon told me I could take the padded bandage off today and replace with a BandAid. Ferg
  24. You are correct Wiz, I found another photo showing the "CW". Ferg
  25. This is a photo of a Seiko I sold recently. Great machine except I think my Servo was a dab too small for it. Used it for purses mostly and some belts also. #138 thread is what it likes most. Don't believe I tried any 207 with it. Will stitch 7 or 8 oz. of leather all day long. Much over that really makes it chug. Remember, I said I think my servo was too small. Well built, the Cowboy is pretty much a carbon copy. I sold mine for about $1400 if I remember correctly. The above machine was a CH-8B-Ld Ferg
