  1. You need to either quote the post like above, or tag the member so they get a notice. Many members haven't set their profile to receive automatic notices. Tag like this - type the @ symbol followed by the member's name, pick the members name from the popup box. @olbar70 you have someone interested in your knife set, see above.
  2. Chuck has it right! Spots that vary from light blue gray all the way to black are a result of a reaction between the tannins in the leather and iron contamination. It could have happened anywhere after tanning until it arrived on your bench. A year or so ago, I had a nice piece of leather that was going to be part of clutch purse with horses figure carved on both sides of the purse. I cased and transferred my pattern onto the leather bagged it over night. In the morning, I came back to it and there was this blue spot outside of what would be the carved area, so couldn't be hidden with tooling or dye. There was a tiny piece of metal embedded in the leather just below the surface. So it had got there during the tanning or finishing process. Like Chuck says, keep all iron filings and fleeings (fine particles of metal dust in the atmosphere) away from your leather and off your bench. Even turning on a fan could be enough to blow iron dust laying on any surfaces around your work space. As a matter of interest, you can look up vinegaroon, used to 'dye' leather blue/black. It's really not dye, but a chemical reaction.

  4. Please post good ones you found, even though they aren't exactly what you want. I and I suppose others would like to see them. Thank you in advance.
  5. @bstubre You don't seem interested in replying to posts left here for you. If no response by the end of this week, your post will be locked and archived for non-response.

  9. That would have been a little long for my grandfather. Years ago he asked me for a simple belt - 48" waist. Made the overall length 64". It just met, tip to buckle. That was the only long blank I had, so he was out of luck. That's when I learned to get real measurements for belts.
  10. If you stitch across the bottom, the slider isn't going past that point.

  13. Belt lengths vary depending on pulley sizes and how the machine and motor are mounted on the table. Parts lists can not account for all these variances. With a little elementary math like 5th or 6th grade and a ruler or tape measure, you can determine the required belt length. First step, before measuring, is to set the motor belt tension adjustment at half way so you have room to tighten or loosen the belt tension when installing your new belt. Measure diameter of the pulleys at the edge of the rim assuming you are buying the proper width of belt for the pulley, take half the circumference of the pulleys, write the total down. Place the ruler or other straight edge against the pulley rims and measure the distance between the contact points on the pulleys. Only need to measure 1 side since the opposite side will be the same, double that measurement and add it to the total for the half circumferences you wrote down. The total of these is the belt length (outside measure) you need.
  14. @myjtp All your 3rd party hosted photos are no longer available. This is what happens when you move or delete photos, or cancel your account. (Some hosts have gone out of business or changed their policies too.) Please do not use 3rd party hosts for photos on this site! If you can message me with your photos and tell me which posts they belong in, I can fix this thread so it is useful to others with similar problems.
  15. As you have found, videos take a lot of file space, more than the limits here allow. Put your videos on YouTube or other host and link to them here. Then you can post videos with adequate time and resolution. Moved your post to leather sewing machines.
  16. @JamesR Merged your 2 posts. You can post additional post on the first post so you can maintain 1 thread. You can also edit your posts within a time window. Noticed one yesterday where the window was 6 hours. I thought it would just be a couple hours.

  20. If your files are too large to post here due to file size restrictions, you need to resize your files to fit. Follow this link for some helps and suggestions. https://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/15122-how-to-post-pictures-on-lw/?do=findComment&comment=551171 There are lots of Apps, software, and online tools available on the web, or even built into your device to enable you to reduce your file sizes. 800 pixels in the longest dimension is quite adequate. Smart phone screens and many monitors don't display high res files in high resolution. People that live on the fringes of the internet appreciate smaller file sizes and high res photos may take from 10 minutes to hours to download.
