I use the doming set from my jewelry tool supplier Rio Grande but I bet it is the same thig as the HF set. Before i start working the metal I grind it flat on the bottom then rough it up a bit so it has something to hang onto then I rough the tops of the snaps with some 80 grit sandpaper then I use 2 part epoxy. haven't had a failure and I have really worked them over to see if I could get the coin to come off.

I Need Help With Market Research For Business Plan
Iron Pounder replied to DoubleC's topic in Marketing and Advertising
Even though this site has a bunch of good folks I think this is the wrong place to ask that. We all make things that cost more than lower end stuff so we look beyond price quickly. I'm not sure very many can give you just a flat answer, I think most everyone will opt for the best value, if they understand the difference in the two products. I think price affects my buyers. I sell a fair amount of pocket wallets at 1/4 the price of my bifold wallet. Maybe they just like the look of the smaller wallet better I don't know for sure but I just think price limited the selection down to the pocket wallet. If I asked someone that question I would follow that with asking what kind of car they own. -
Horseshoe Font Or Maybe Help With A Basic Logo?
Iron Pounder replied to Iron Pounder's topic in Computer Help
Guys thank you for your help. Trouble is I have sent that guy three emails and never heard back. That is what I'm wanting but I guess he is out of business or at least not able to return send the font. -
I would like to do my business name in a font that looks like horseshoes. I know someone that can work a vector program well could just make a word out of horseshoes but I can't get it done.

I can call him but don't know what to say really other than I will take some, depending on pricing. Let s say he prices them out at 1.00 avg. How many would everyone buy. I would guess he wants to know the volume more than how many of us want some. If 4 of us take 200 each that is a decent run but if 10 of us take 25 each I doubt he would even mess with it. Do we know a ballpark price on his stuff? We just make our own made from solid brass but it takes forever and would love to just buy them from a company here.

This sounds great. I'm in for some. Maybe we could just put together a group purchase.

I have a rubber mat like already mentioned that is under my granite which is 2 inches thick. If anyone lives around the KC area there is a guy that sells off his drops of granite for next to nothing. I got 3 slabs for 5 bucks. I can get some for anyone that wants some but don't see how we could ship it.

I love this!! I don't know what else to say other than the layout and design flow so well it shows the work of a true craftsman.

Biker Wallet
Iron Pounder replied to tatehunt's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Very Nice wallet!! -
Did we run out of meds? You are a moderator of this site and it would seem odd to talk poorly to a vendor for our industry. To the Tangleboss owner- we do have a few grumpy folks on this site but by far the most are good people. Please don't let one guy run you off or leave you with a bad taste of the forum in general.

Ya I'm thinking of adapting an air over hyd press for this. Here is roughly what I want to do. If I emboss the wallets can I still dip them in dye or will it give up some lines or at least sharpness? I want to dip them before I line them with cloth and assemble. To be clear the picture is just some random pic off google and is not my work.

Hey that is some good info.

I'm wanting to have a few plates made to emboss our front pocket wallets. We are working on a few designs that have, or at least hopefully have a broad appeal. We are just looking to quickly add some detail to our otherwise plain sleeves. To keep our price point low we have to stay away from hand tooling so thought embossing may be the answer. Are some of you using a clicker with less force?

How Are Sales This Year So Far?
Iron Pounder replied to Iron Pounder's topic in Marketing and Advertising
Thanks guys for the info on credit cards. Glad everyone is doing well. Big Gun Doctor, I haven't been on Iforge in a long time but used to hang out there some. I really want to do more jewelry and leather as it is easier on me but it is a slow process for me. -
The Next Victim! Vintage Tele Wrap And Tool!
Iron Pounder replied to chancey77's topic in Musical Instruments
Lovin the tele!! Been a while since I have checked in. How many hours do you have in at this point? -
Thought I would check in and see how things are going for everyone. I have been busy this year, mostly small sculptures but really enjoy working with leather, it is just hard for me to come out as good. Maybe it is I'm more in my comfort zone working with metal due to more exp. Having said that we are going down to the cabins this weekend and we will see tons of money being spent on leather goods for horses. I don't know a thing about horses but I wish I did as that customer seems to spend an endless amount of money . I've been doing small art shows, a few flea markets and working with a few wedding planers with overflow work coming from word of mouth. Does anyone have a system for taking cc on the fly that is reasonable? I have left some sales on the table by not taking credit cards. For me the simple front pocket (sleeve type) wallets move the best of my leather products. Had a guy come over to our booth and tell me I stole his design of the wallet, I just laughed and my two boys escorted him back to his booth. I had never ever been to that town before and or seen him or his stuff. It is a simple fold over and stitch the sides up sleeve. I sell them in three colors with zero tooling on them for 15.00 which he said was giving them away. We make 10 or so of them per hour, granted that isn't going to keep the lights on but it helps. Anyway I don't get on here much anymore but did want to say hey to everyone and see how things are going.

Very nice work.

I think it going to powder would be just fine. You just want something to hold shape against, I would think the smoother the better.

Jimbob The bags I have used have all used velcro to open and close or have been sewn shut (a really old bag I have is this way). I think I might try rice to fill one for myself just to see how well it works.

Happy St. Patty's Day!
Iron Pounder replied to Kevin King's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Very nicely done. -
I reply that way sometimes. I didn't know it offended someone. I just thought it is weird when 5 or 6 are talking to just post something without addressing to whom the message is for.

Thanks guys. My biggest hang up is tight corners while keeping the curve smooth. To me the thicker (1/2") barrel feels better with the 3/8 straight blade. The knife I have that I get along best with so far has sharp knurling and doesn't have a bearing to spin on like some I see posted here. I'm sure it's just an old cheap rig. I might turn down the barrel to get rid of the heavy knurling but can't justify modifying it beyond that point. I have played around a bit with how sharp to make the blade but not sure what most do. I've had them at shaving sharp, then put some "tooth" in it and liked that better. Is that about what most do? There is no doubt I can increase what I can offer using a swivel knife successfully.

Thanks Ben. I had already found those and really looking for how folks hold it, what makes them like the knife and so on.
