  1. You forgot to post pictures of your belt. How can we heap praise upon you with out a picture? Sounds like your leather is cut from the belly or the neck. The shoulder, and back are great places for leather for belts. Good firmness and no floopy parts. Have you put any neetsfoot oil on the belt at all? Michael
  2. The stitching looks good. If you used an awl you wouldnt have an issue with the thread looking like its too small. The holes close up with an awl. Over all it looks very nice. I question the lack of support around the trigger guard. In my opinion you need enough leather around the trigger guard so you can run a stitch line. The way it is now if the user were to take a tumble there is a good chance the gun would come out of the holster due to the lack of closure around the trigger guard. You did a good job. Keep up the work. Michael
  3. Send me a PM with your email address and let me know which one you want. Ill send it to you.
  4. In regards to the back side of the holster, is that Herman Oak? Im betting its either HO or Wicket Craig or one of the other quality brands of veg tan leather. They all have a great back to start. Then with the Gum Trag you can get a great looking back side. Michael
  5. You do not want soft for a holster. Keep it hard. looks good, You should stay away from sharp corners. They tend to fray quickly and can look bad in just a few months. Keep them more round than angled.
  6. I have a great one for the Glock 19 or M&P 40. Its the one in my Avatar. I can send you the pattern. There is also this model that I have for a G19 and a M&P 40/9 The second one is nice in that it doesnt need the gun to fit it too. I have different patterns for the Glock and the M&P. They are not the same pattern. Its just that the Glock pictures look better. Michael
  7. Yes a wood chisel but make sure you put the straight side of the chisel on the outside of the slot. This way the angle distorts the part you are taking out. You could use a drill if you dont like the punch. Do the slot after its glued together like you have been. Its just a matter of practice.
  8. For the slots. Punch a hole at the top and bottom of the slot and then use a chisel of the right size, I use a 1.5" to cut the sides and connect the two holes. Its how I do it and works for me. Michael
  9. Looks pretty good. What needle and what size thread are you using? It almost looks like the needle is too large for the thread. Could be the lighting. Michael
  10. What matters is you do it the same way all the time. This make the best looking stitch. when you go one way on one stitch and then the other way on another it starts looking like its drunk. Good question.
  11. Yes, Lightly wipe it with rubbing alcohol. I use the little pads like in the doctors office. It will take off some of the resoline. You might want to put a layer of Leather Balm w/ Atom Wax after you wipe it down. Id also try a little neetsfoot oil before the leather balm. The alcohol whill actually take off the resoline so you can get back to dyed leather if you want to. A light rub should give it a matte look. Try it on a sample piece of leather first. Michael
  12. Depends on the leather the temp and how long.. Take a lightly moist holster put it in 125-135 deg oven for 15-20 minutes, until it gets about 125 degs. It gets really hard and holds its shape. The collagen in the leather melts and then hardens to the new shape of the holster. Makes it real firm. If you put leather in boiling water it gets like armor. In fact thats how they made leather armor in the old days. So it all depends on why you are doing it. I have destroyed a few pieces by not watching it and it got too hot and burned. So always be careful.
  13. If you have to have them put the holes use the smallest circle you can. Vertical and horizontal will both look bad and not work well.
  14. I am not in the market for one but some pictures of the Boss would probably help. Not many know what the case looks like or how nice it is.
  15. Another way to do it is when you get to where you want to start the back stitch rotate the leather 180 deg and stitch "Forward" from that point. This way you get a back stitch but dont have to keep moving the leather back a stitch. Depending on the project this can work well.
  16. Post pictures no matter how it turns out. People here can help either way.
  17. He was on at about 7:30 this morning. So at least he is still around. Hopefully he sees this thread and stops by.
  18. Nice work, How long did that take and how many beers? I have to commend your tenacity. I would have tried to clean it then thrown it out and bought a new one. Well done sir. Michael
  19. Sounds like it dried out. Try a couple of coats of Neetsfoot oil on a section and see if that helps. Let it soak in over night between coats. It might take 3-4 to restore the leather.
  20. Ive been under the weather for several months and finally got to feeling better. I knocked out 10 of these and kept the worst one for my Sig P938. It is a nice IWB. Sized for the smaller pistols. S&W Shield, Sig P290RS, Sig P938, Ruger LC9, etcetra. Each one is formed to hold the pistol the customer owns. The design allows you to use the centerfire style laser or take off and go without it. 8-9 HO leather, sewn on a Boss, Vinegeron color and Resolene finish. Nice to be back. Michael
  21. Looks good to me. The carving is nice and well defined. I personally do not like the way you did the chape but its a personal opinion. There is nothing wrong with the way it was done Im nust not fond of that style. You did good. Keep it up.
