My First Week..
WScott replied to VanDutch's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I agree. Some room for refinement, but that comes with time. With a name like Van Dutch I expect to see some pinstriping on some work! I would never show my first projects, they look like a five year old did them. But I keep them as reminders -
I agree, great looking belt and your style shines through on it. Very distinctive. I am sure you won't have to waste a second on the person who doesn't want to pay for it, the guy lined up behind him will.

Which Is Better Tote Bags Or Messenger Bags
WScott replied to borlinoleather's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
You are welcome, hope that was helpful. I think of a tote bag as a more casual, female one you grab and chuck something into while shopping on a weekend whereas a messenger bag is more formal and brought to work and meetings with all your papers, books etc inside you need for your day. Either bag can be dressed up or down depending on materials/ style used to make it. Just rambling on -
This is a really nice looking set up Bob, one of the best I have seen Not surprised it was from a guy in Kamloops BC.....I was born and raised there until left for University Scott

Ooh my ears are burning!!! There is a place in East Vancouver, Lonsdale Leather, on E 5th Avenue. http://www.lonsdaleleather.com/ The Aussie owner, Phillip, is an AWESOME guy and will help sort you out. Not the cheapest, but great quality leathers. Unfortunately he is trying to sell his business due to injury. You could also go to the Tandy in Surrey BC and actually sort through the hides yourself until you find one you like. It is a ferry trip and some gas, but you will get what you want either way. Good Luck, Scott

Good for you J Hayes, takes guts to do that

Which Is Better Tote Bags Or Messenger Bags
WScott replied to borlinoleather's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Ok in my humble opinion: Messenger bag has a flap to close and protect contents and more complicated construction for gussets and hardware. Thus a bit more costly Tote has open top construction, more like an open bag, easier construction, one piece with no gussets often and little if any hardware . Thus a bit less costly Is that what you were after?? -
Leatherman And Flashlight Pocket Sheath
WScott replied to rnabholz's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Uh oh, now you are in trouble A leather addiction starts innocently enough, just a few projects here and there no biggie, you can handle it then whammo you are spending all your free time on a website, buying tools and supplies staying up late at night on weekends making bags Sad really, another life lost to addiction Great sheath looking sheath by the way -

I have mail ordered from Sherridan Leather Outfitters and Springfield Leather. I had no problems with either. When you mail order, there is an inherent risk that what you get isn't quite what you want. I actually prefer a little place in East Vancouver where I go to see, smell and feel the leather before I buy. Even the Local Tandy is a good start to get the hands on feel of what you are buying JMHO

I think the original poster was looking for raw leather suppliers, not finished products But, you have beautiful leather products and fantastic photography n your website Good for you, promo away!!!!

I have some "Mustang" oiled leather from Tandy purchased about three years ago now. Made this bag, a guitar strap and a belt. It is lovely stuff and has not bled out, though I do heed warnings and store oiled leathers away from all others. Some oiled leathers will bleed more than others. For example, my prized Horween leathers get their own shelf space as they have a bleed out potential and are my precious. If you have seen a really old piece of leather, like say a veg tan baseball glove, it can dry out after long time and that when it needs to be re-fed. Keep your oil tanned rolled, covered and out of sunlight. If you think it has dried out, just re feed it with whatever oil based product is available to you...there are lots!! Tandy takes such a bad rap one here, but if you are careful in selection, go to the store, feel/pick the leather yourself and buy stuff on sale you can do just fine!!

If you want to send a bit of $ to help LeatherLou get to study in Italy, here is the link. He is way too proud to ask for it himself. A good cause to support and pay it forward http://www.gofundme.com/63nfvk

WOW, Astounding! -
Sounds like you have your head in the right space. New chapter in a new life with an opportunity to start over in a new country. No ties to hold you down, thank goodness no kids to worry about. The more you describe this opportunity, the better it sounds to me. God I like to think I would have the guts to do it if I were in your shoes; maybe why your posts struck a chord with me. So at least let me live vicariously and post tons of photos, updates and info while you are there, love to tag along. Best of luck, Scott ps, I would start pounding learning the Italian language

I don't face book, skype, tweet or hashtag, but got shown Pinterest for a house reno to record stuff we liked to discuss with designers. Sucked into the terminal vortex of time wasting on Pinterest! ahhhhhhhnooooooo Now I have 227 leather related photos pinned for projects and have used absolutely none of them in three months...Day off today, I finally dragged my butt into the shop this afternoon to finish a custom strap for my son's new headphones (it came with a fake pleather one ahkkk) Pinterest is a great site, you just gotta have some time management skills and limit computer time....I am starting tomorrow:)
