    If you find out where the floor joist are and put your table legs directly over them ...it will be more like hitting the rim of a drum than hitting the head. It also eliminates much of the floor bounce when setting grommets ect. Ray

    It sounds like you are talking about block dying and or block dye removal. Wrap a layer or 2 of t-shirt around a flat object, credit card or 2x2 works well. After dying the low areas with a light color, drag the block with the top color across the top and the darker dye will just go on the surface. You can do the reverse with water based paint. After dying everything thin the paint and put it in the low areas and then quickly remove what slops onto the surface with a damp cloth on the block. Ray

    Neatsfoot takes about 2 days sometimes 3 to do its thing. Also make sure you are using neatsfoot oil not compound. I have started using Angelus brand 101 oil. I put it on very lightly with a cheep paintbrush and then rub it around a little to even it out. It softens even the most brittle leathers I have used it on. Ray

    Geniva, can you explain why there is twice as much thread in hand stitching? I always thought they were about the same. Both methods have threads top and bottom and they both go through the holes twice. The only difference I see is that machine stitching makes a u-turn inside the holes. Thanks, Ray

    I recently started using latex to block both dye and paint. I am using Grafix Incredible White Mask liquid frisket. It blocks pro oil dye and acrylic paint well with just 1 or 2 light coats. It dose discolor the veg tanned leather slightly. I put the latex over white cova color with no discoloration to the paint, or lifting of the paint when latex was removed. I painted the leather after removing the latex and then scratched at the edge of the paint with an e-xacto and a brass wire brush. No paint came off. Other than the slight discoloration of the leather it seem that the order of use of the products makes no difference.

    A t-shirt will not support the weight. You could use canvas or blue jean weight denim. Don't punch holes I.E. cut the threads of the fabric. Use a round awl to "move " the fabric threads out of the way as you rivet or stitch the scales on. Canvas, being a larger weave, will make stitching without breaking the fabric threads easier than using the tighter woven denim. Ray

    Dakotawolf...I had not seen that on their site befor. When I wrote to Fiebings asking about the differences in their dye products a while back. This is the reply I got. Leather Dye is Alcohol based. Pro Oil Dye is alcohol and oil color based.Leather stain is vegetable oil based and can be mixed with most other oil up to 20%. Professional Oil Dye is the best product as it dyes more level and does not fade and can be used on oily leather. In many cases Leather Dye works and is lower in cost. You may pass this on to others.     The Granite is so when you are tooling you have your leather between a rock (granite) and a hard place (the tool)... This is the Tandy Video for the Ultimate starter kit.     Try a search for gripper or canvas snaps. They have staple like points instead of a center post and are made to use on fabric. I.E. thinner material than most leather. They are available at most fabric stores or at upholstery supply stores. Ray

    Yep it looks like a turn back. numbers are 942, to 947. I got one as part of a 30 tool auction on ebay for about $60. The next week the same tool sold singly for $45, and a couple weeks later one went for about $10. You can use a pear shader twice to get about the same effect. Ray

    The C940 pic is in the second row of camouflage tools third from the left. On a side note. I printed out the list and checked off the tools I already have. I keep it by the computer to check if I have/need something on Ebay. Ray

    The handle of the tandy maxi punch fits nicely over size 0 grommets. Mini punch handle might work for 00. Ray

    The metallic gold look may be from using to much dye and having excess pigment sitting on top of the leather. How many coats did you use and did you buff it out after it dried? You could try wiping it down with a little denatured alcohol on a rag to remove the excess dye. Ray

    When taking a wrist or neck measurement I put 2 fingers under the tape. It seems to be just about the right amount of ease. Ray

    Your site super clean and fast loading. If I don't at least see a banner for a web site in 5 sec. I'm gone. The phone number could use a couple dashes to make it easier to read. Unless you have a store front and want people to stop by unannounced, I wouldn't put my home address on the website. Instead I would recommend setting an appointment and emailing them your address.     I got some glove snaps at Tandy today and had already spent several hours looking into this when I saw you post. Take a look at Ohio Travel bag on page 30 and 31. Tandy glove snaps are line 16,10 mm, the ligne 4 dies fit 9.02 mm snaps, the ligne 6 fit 13.53 mm snaps. I'm guessing to fit the Tandy snaps your going to need the ligne 4. I called and the bottom die has a 3/8 shaft and fits the Tandy type press, you will need to get the threaded die converter for the press (page 31). They will not fit the Weaver foot press. I am going to order these tomorrow, I'll let you know if it works. Ray
