Suggestions
TXAG replied to charlescrawford's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I am on disability too. When there is a tool I need to buy, I usually just save up a little longer and buy the best one I can get instead of buying a cheapie one and having to replace it five times.- 31 replies

Thank you. I am going to order some from there...I like that they have a "needles only" shipping option that isn't a rip-off. Can't wait to try the harness needles...should've gone with those way back when I began doing this...Thanks again everyone... BTW, they only show a "size 2" and "size 4"...no 00, 000, etc...does anyone know where I might get a good assortment of sizes of the John James harness needles?

You'll probably get as many different answers to those questions as there are people. I use white saddle soap, personally...don't really feel like messing with lard or using ivory soap, cooking it, etc.

Ok, so I have some of that "realeather" (or whatever it's called) rawhide lace and it is extremely bad quality. I seem to be ending up with really bad supplies lately for some reason. I bought it from a dealer that advertises on here -- they substituted it when I bought the Bill Confer/Tejas lace...another story. So...I understand there are limited sources for rawhide lace these days. Where would be the best place to buy some good, decent quality lace? I'd like to get some in 1/16" and 1/8", if possible... Please let me know...I don't really have the time/space/equipment to go process my own hides in my backyard. And my neighbors would probably call the city code enforcement people on me too...probably a bad idea all around. Thanks for any guidance...

Ok, well I tried searching on this, but didn't find anything on it... I have bought a few needles for hand stitching in the past...they're basically garbage and break frequently. The latest ones I got were Tandy brand (which I did not know at the time or I would not have bought them) "stitching needles" and they are the worst ever. Can anyone recommend a source for high quality hand-stitching needles, please?

Cell phones, fine. Wallets...I personally wouldn't buy or use a wallet with a magnet in it. (I've had mag stripes screwed up from even weak magnets before, so I avoid getting my cards near them...)

Doesn't matter. They shouldn't be calling regular, plain snaps dot snaps because that confuses people that don't know the difference. If they're referring to the DOT BRAND, they need to specify that. Oh, and I already knew they were a brand...I've known that since about 1993 when I started parachute rigging. I just think it's important to clear up any confusion for those that do not know.

Well. One thing I can clear up are "dot snaps". Some certain people (person) on here continually refers to all snaps as "dot snaps" when they mean regular, plain old snaps. There is an actual type of snap called "pull-the-dot" which are different than regular, plain snaps...pull-the-dot snaps have an dot imprinted on the outside of the snap and are directional -- they can only be unfastened by pulling up on the side the dot is on. They also require a slightly different die to set than plain snaps. For other hardware explainations, I would look at a few websites that sell the hardware...one place I buy from is Ryan's Products (http://ryansproducts.com/)...they have a lot of different buckles in a lot of sizes that are really nice quality. If you look around their page though, then you'll be able to see what the different buckles are called so you can look for them elsewhere.

Is there a link to this video somewhere?
-
FYI, she hasn't been on this website since May of last year.

Yeah, none of them worked for me...I mean it goes to a valid page, but none of the links on that page appear to work at all.

Oddly enough, the machine stitchers will never admit that for some reason...

Meeting With A Store Owner - Scared!
TXAG replied to Pennypower's topic in Marketing and Advertising
1 - The best way to combat that is to make your items all unique...that way they don't all have to look exactly alike. (Though it might be hard to do that for 50 belts...that's a lot of belts!) 2 - I've been approached to provide stock for stores (not for leather items, but other ones) and if I cannot fulfill what they are asking for, I will politely tell them this and explain why...the other items I make are very time-consuming and cost-prohibitive to make a lot of to just sit somewhere where it may or may not sell for a long time. I can't afford to do that and neither can the store, so I am honest with them about it upfront. 3 - Yeah, taxes could be a PITA. Keep receipts of all your supplies, tools, etc. Might want to seek out a local CPA that can help you out...Quicken is a good program that can help with that and is fairly easy to use/understand... Good luck... -
If you don't want comments on your youtube videos, you can turn them off. Additionally, if you don't want the entire world to see the videos (i.e. of your "8yo hockey goalie"), you can set them to unpublished, private, etc. Not that hard.

Right. I'd already checked that and they do not. Oh well...maybe one day we will be able to have a guild here.

They asked for 3/8"...and Harbor Freight has 1/4" ones as well.

I don't have that one, but I am thoroughly impressed with his other hand tools I do have. They are extremely well made and fine tools. I wouldn't hesitate to buy an edger...in fact, I think I may order a few more tools of his soon.
