Thinking Of Buying A Manual Embossing Machine. Opinions?
rlpullman replied to Mike516's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
It is a bit pricey. I bought it new from Nickosew. -
I don't have any design drawings. The bottom is one piece flesh side up. The top center is one piece with gouges on both ends on the flesh side and folded up in a J shape. The top front is gouged on the flesh side and folded up into a V shape. The top back is gouged on the flesh side and folded up into an L sharp. It measures 4-1/2" wide X 4" deep. The back is 3" tall, and the front flap is 1" tall. There is 1-3/4" between the flaps. All pieces are glued flesh side to flesh side and stitched all around. Hope that makes sense Richard

Thinking Of Buying A Manual Embossing Machine. Opinions?
rlpullman replied to Mike516's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I have one of the Amish made machines that Nick sells. Very well made machine, change out on rolls is fast and simple. I love that machine. -
Take a look at the way the cowboy style holsters have a type of v notch at the barrel end of the center fold.

Embossing rolls are getting hard to find. Tippman Industrial discontinued their embosser, but still list a few rolls on their site. Tandy recalled all of their machines and rolls earlier this year and no longer offers them. Last time I checked, they were not gong to offer them.

That's a nice finish Ferg. Where do you get the gloss edge agent? -

Help! Too Many Machines, Too Many Opinions!
rlpullman replied to cutikatsam's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I use a Cobra Class 18 for all my flat work. it has been a good dependable machine. It is a compound feed machine. Although it won't do 1/2". It can take up to 138 thread top and bottom, but I primarily use 92 for most of my work. For chaps and vests it would work just fine. It is a couple hundred more than the class 17, but worth the extra.- 8 replies

I have seen several sites where they have holsters that have a type of retention adjusting screw. They look kind of like a Chicago screw with a rubber grommet. They are used to adjust the amount of retention on the hand gun. Does anyone here know of a supplier where I can get these?

Leatherwork And Crypto Currencies
rlpullman replied to Beaverslayer's topic in Marketing and Advertising
Bitcoin is a form of barter. There is no threat of Bitcoin or any other cyber currency replacing the U.S. dollar. That is because the IRS only accepts US dollars as payment for taxes. As long as the IRS only accepts US dollars, there will always be a demand for them. -

I am curious. What is the cost of Hermann Oak (8/9oz) per foot from any other supplier with the cost of shipping factored in? If I can get the Hermann Oak from my local Tandy store for $275 per side (Elite Club price). How does that compare to others with the cost of shipping added in. At least I get to choose the side I want. I will stop by my local Tandy store tomorrow, and see what they have to offer.

If your wife is upset about taking up so much space in the kitchen nook area, she will really be upset when you take off and grow out of that space. I took over me wife's spare bedroom in the basement. And still need more room. Welcome to the madness called Leather craft. Hope you get that laptop case you were looking for. Richard

All of my patterns are in cad format. I spent over twenty years working as an engineering technician and drafter, so doing the patterns in cad is natural to me. I suggest you download a copy of Draftsight. It is a free drafting program by the same company that has Solidworks. It is almost identical to AutoCAD, and fairly easy to learn. If you have experience as a drafter, then moving to a cad program should be easy. It is just a matter of learning the software. Some of the benefits of using cad for patterns, is the ability to reuse geometry from one pattern to another or new pattern, the ability to scale the pattern, and with a large format printer or plotter you can print out large patterns in one piece.

I have purchased several ebooks from Tandy. I love them. They are all pdf files. You can cut and paste them to other graphic editing software. I like to cut and paste into Autocad drafting software, then I can trace them to create blocks to be used in various projects. I can scale them to any size I want. Once I save it to a drawing, I can reuse it anywhere I want. A great way to save time, not having to redraw something

How Much Do Leathercrafts Man Get Paid?
rlpullman replied to DavidL's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Spend the 14 grand to learn a trade, then go to work for someone else? I guarantee you will be sick and tired of doing it in just a few short years. I have worked in many manufacturing jobs, and beleive me that is what they are doing. Manufacturing. -
Reality Check, Please. Tandy Leather Price Doubled.
rlpullman replied to dcobranding's topic in Suppliers
Last time I visited the local Tandy store, they had just received over two hundred of the European Double shoulders. Our local Tandy store sells them at $80 each or $200 for three. I always get three. These were very nice, and I was able to find three exceptional ones over 15sf each. We have a new manager, and she does her very best to help you out. I registered my tax number at Tandy, and I get the best prices. At some point I may try to order from Springfield or somewhere else, but as long as the local Tandy manager can provide the quality I like, I will save the money it will cost for shipping. Personally, I like to look at what I am buying when it comes to leather.- 39 replies

Need Help With Business Name Ideas!

Does Petty imply inferiority? How about Richard Petty Racing? Take pride in your name. Your brand name should reflect your product. Focus on what your product will be, and develop a brand around it. -
A steer is just a neutered bull. From what I can tell the back has the least amount of stretch

I have used bison on several items. I love that stuff. It has such a nice soft feel, yet is quite strong. It sews nicely with a machine. I would not use a stitch groove. It should work ok for hand stitching, just watch your tension.
