  1. maybe a misprint - don´t know. Or look at the foot lift levers of your 111´s - not sure if there were different types for different foot lift heights (different part numbers?) if not and all 111 are using the same lever you should be able to tweak it a bit because I doubt they used a lot of different parts in the different subclasses - compare the parts lists. Will check my parts bin if I can find different levers - I know I have 1 or 2 spares... EDIT: yes - different levers - but I don´t know if the black one probably is a DURKOPP (they share parts with Singer). Do you see the difference?
  2. you are welcome - would like to have the "key" to your archive
  3. taxes makes sense in some cases - they can protect industries / markets from being swamped with cheap Chinese products or products from other foreign / cheap labor countries. It depends on the market. But in a globalized world its hard to control all that especially when items come in in small numbers through Ebay and Alibaba / Ali Express and so forth. Taxes on sewing machines do not make much sense because there is no serious sewing machine industry in the US anymore - or? I think there are probably a few smaller manufacturer who still make sewing machines for special applications, right? Or do they meanwhile all modify import sewing machines? I honestly do not know. Nowadays often some foreign investors bought the brand names and put on some stickers with the "good old names"... Keep the old Singers running... Oh - BTW if we need Singer 111 parts we have to check with some African countries. Read this? https://www.army.mil/article/146004/munitions_manufacturing_equipment_finds_new_life_in_african_peacekeeping_mission Different topic but interesting to read too: https://www.army.mil/article/146104/clothing_repair_taught_for_final_time_at_quartermaster_school
  4. Very nice vintage setup thats what I would guess. How much doe they ask for the Singer? No I don´t want it - I have a 46K46 to set up - one day - maybe...
  5. I have scanned this brochures I have a while ago, not sure if I uploaded here alreday. Subclass list for sure is not complete but at the date of printing (11-52 afaik) it was what Singer offered as regular machines. Seems the 111w156 was not on the marked back then. Hope you like it Singer 111w Class Machine Brochure.PDF
  6. 1/2" clearance under presser foot I put a PDF scan of the brochure in a new thread..
  7. I´m no "ozy" but it can sew approx 8-9mm stick with 138 thread - in very best case 207 but 138 is what it work best with. It for sure depends on your motor setup how thick it can sew and how hard / dense the material is. The 111w155 has no reverse if that matters. Machine seems to be mid to late 1950´s made.
  8. As sad as it is but I guess most small businesses or hobbyist could not afford these machines then. These days are over! I think when an labor intensive industry is down once it will not rise again. Lets dig out Isaak Merritt Singer, lets see what he says. When did Singer quit making industrial sewing machines in the US and UK? 30 / 40 years ago? So keep the old cast iron alive - it´s worth it - I always said that Talking US made stitchers: Windham Cub, Luberto Classic, Campbell / Randall Lockstitch... so it´s not that you don´t have them... but...
  9. Will not mess up - I did that on my Singer 108w20 - no problems and I´m sure other member did that as well. See picture. Spring is at least to weak for your application as it seems - replacing them is not uncommon. Have you tried to reduce the bottom tension? If the bottom tension is too high you also need more top tension.
  10. The 111 type needle feed machines also have a different needle plate and feed dog so not sure if it is satisfying when you only remove the center foot and put on a new foot. I don´t know - I haven´t tested it but this is the feed dog and need plate for a Singer 111 needle feed machine.
  11. Singer 111w141 is a plain drop feed if I can trust their sales brochures.
  12. You can use a heavier spring on the tension unit - easy task. Most dealers should stock them. Reg. feet - I would grind down the tip of the inner foot to get and open needle hole.
  13. you can run a lot of 400V motors on 220V by using a capacitor google for: Steinmetzschaltung
  14. ask the manufacturers I think the demand is not big enough - there are just a few who really need an FBA in comparison to the number of manufactured cylinder machines. Singer 29K is a different story, it is "universal" repair machine. But f.i. for the Singer 45K and Adler 5 they supplied a heavy cast iron FBA.
  15. It is often just the feed dog that limits the needle / thread size. The hook often is the same so in best case you change out the the feed dog (one with wider needle hole) and you can use a larger needle size. Also you never know if one of the previous owner (if it is a used machine) already made changes on a certain machine so it is well possible that the machine "as is" already can handle larger needles / thread - just try it by hand cranking or slowly test sewing the machine. Since it comes from a dealer he most likely is able to modify the machine for you - talk to him!
  16. don´t know this particular motor but my first guess would a be a too tight V-belt.
  17. I´m thinking about selling my BUSMC / DVSG #6. its the later model. Its fully restored and comes with bobbin winder and some accessories. If you need just the head (machine it self + bobbin winder I could ship it but If you need the cast iron stand too I´m out. I can send pictures and a video if you want.
  18. There were 111 with just needle feed (meaning bottom feed and needle feed combined and not moving presser foot) and the 111w141 had just drop feed (no walking needle and no walking foot) but all 111w155 had triple feed and that includes the "walking needle". Maybe stitch length is adjusted to zero?
  19. or just want them
  20. the JACK Servos from College Sewing also have this "4 prong output" and the 2 prong output - the 2 prong is for an LED light afaik but the 4 prong is nowhere mentioned. Maybe worth checking with JACK or College Sewing? EDIT: Dumb me - the 4 prong is for the needle positioner - I removed it so the output is free But I don´t know if this output can be used for a foot lifter too
  21. Thats real amchine hoarding. That guy needs professional help, I think. I would not even touch 90% of that stuff but everybody has his own preferences. Nice filthy chair at 00:51
  22. I had similar problems and seems often are the snaps the problem - The best snaps you can buy are DOT, STIMPSON and OSBORNE. I get best results with REAL brass snaps not steel or brass / copper plated. REAL BRASS - made in the USA - not China! Thats at least my experience. I once bought Chinese snaps and they said real brass - figured they were copper plated steel and just one part of the set was real brass - they all fxck you. Better buy Made in USA brass snaps from established manufacturers.
  23. On newly restored machines I use S-761 for a while as is has a good cleaning effect (there is always some dirt - somewhere). Later I use plain sewing machine oil (like Lily White Oil) http://www.spartacusgroup.net/NATO_S-758_NATO_S-761_SGOMP.html I use S761 for almost everything from Household to mountain bike chains to sewing machines. We had this in the Army and used if for all weapons from MG3 down to P8 and to me the specs are pretty convincing. So no reason for trying something else. But everyone has his "miracle" oil or secret oil mixture. I just buy what worked for me for years.
  24. NICE - where have you found the nickle plated staples?
  25. College Sewing in the UK has them as well as other bits: https://www.college-sewing.co.uk/store/Durkopp-Adler-291,-292-Sewing-Machine-Parts
