Dürkopp 17 Patcher - Sunday Morning Barn Find
Constabulary posted a topic in Leather Sewing Machines
So here it is - my latest barn find, a Dürkopp class 17 patcher. I just picked it up this Sunday morning from the grandson of the former owner which died in 1989 but he went out of business way earlier. So this machine probably has not been touched for 50 years or more. This is my first Dürkopp class 17 ever, I had a class 18 before but yet no class 17. I have to figure what subclass it is. I assume it is a short arm with medium hook but have to free the hook first and check my records. All parts seem to be present except 1 spring but that should not be a big issue. It is mounted on a GÖRICKE branded treadle base but the machine definitely is Dürkopp made. Interestingly there seems to be a small pedestal mounted between treadle base and machine. Unfortunately no further accessories and no drawer. It seems to be a very early model cause the later class 17 had different needle plates and different tension units. So I have a nice project for the the upcoming cold days (if we will have cold days at all). Next will be a generous oiling to free some the moving parts and especially the hook (needle plate is "frozen"). I´m really looking forward to get this thing running again. Some pictures: -
I love these old Singer 45K´s - they are super reliable machines when properly set up! A few years a go I restored a Singer 45D91 - yes "D" not "K" cause it was made in Wittenberge, Germany prior 1945 instead of Kilbowie, Scottland. Still have mine and I love it. This was my restoration: https://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/72789-singer-45d91-restoration SV means special variant - that could be a prototype of a later standard machine or a machine that came with some special accessories (compared to the standard models) or a machine set up to customer specs for a special sewing purpose. Unfortunately there are no valid data on SV machines so all that is just guessing from what we have "observed here and there". We once started collecting the Singer SV models and information in this thread: https://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/71738-singer-sv-machines Maybe you can add some pictures of your machine too. Just from the pictures - it looks like your 45K has a different rest for the regulator spring (accessible from the out side while the "standard" rests are mounted on the foot bar clamp behind the face plate )and also a smaller / lighter hand wheel like the ones you find on 132K / 133K´s as it seems. Everything else looks like the plain 45K`s.

Claes patcher stitch length adjuster (solved)
Constabulary replied to Farmfield's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
200 is the newer model - followed by the 8345 and then the 8346 which is the current model. -
29K62 (small bobbin) or 29K60 (large bobbin) - However 29K62 I guess. All data should be here on the forum incl. manual and parts list.

Greta van Fleet Not new, but I did not know em. Quite impressed! KInda reminds me of Led Zeppelin.

You turn the hand wheel to the right when mounted on the front side or toward you when mounted on the right end. Otherwise it will sot sew or feed the material. Check this thread manuals are linked to download in the 2nd post. https://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/90995-newly-aquired-adler-30-15-need-a-manual-needles-and-bobbins/

AFAIK the early 29 & 29K do not have a timing eccentric. I would guess racks and pinions are worn out. But they are obsolete - however with some luck you still can find some NOS parts. But they are very rare. This thread may be of interest for you.

can you post a close up picture of the face plate or the lower tension unit - looks like something is missing there (not 100% sure though)

https://www.np-z.com/shop?search=LAX81 Maybe look for LAX81 If you have a business with valid VAT number you can order here: https://shop.lebri-online.de/de/searchresults/?group_filters=0&search_keywords=Nadel+System+81 https://www.naehendirekt.de/System-81-LAX81-Preis-pro-Karte-a-10-Nadeln-VPE-10-Karten -
I heard good thing from these folks but have to admit I never used their products. Not sure if the products are available in the UK. Maybe google translation of their website gives you some useful information: https://www.lederzentrum.de https://www.lederzentrum.de/farbkarte.html https://www.lederzentrum.de/alle-produkte.html EDIT: seems they are: https://www.colourlock.co.uk/

Chandler just put their names on Adler machines. On the Dürkopp-Adler website you find a number of authorized dealers. They should have the parts you need. (scroll down here) https://www.duerkopp-adler.com/de/kontakt/vertriebspartner/nordamerika

sounds like a 200-1 or 200-2 - do you have measures? -

do you have a 200-1, 200-2 or 200-3 (lager prefix = lager hook) CLAES is still making the bobbins so you should be able to get them from shoe machine dealers or other sewing machine dealers. If not check with CLAES, I once visited the plant and bought some spare parts straight from them. Nice folks, really! But shipping from Germany to to Sweden probably is a deal killer. https://www.cl-maschinenbau.com/de/leistungen/naehmaschinen.html Some (not all) parts from the latest 8346 are still the same as for the 200. When you check the 8346parts list all parts with 200 prefix are still the same. However the new hooks could be slightly different (thats what they told me). -

10mm is not the stitch length. Rather consider it just as a scale. From my experience the model 200 (which you have) makes 6mm Stitches at max. If you need a manual in English, I once translated one from German language and edited it a little bit (original source was an RPX manual but the 200 class are very similar). Send me a PM if interested. -

What CLAES model do you have? From the 200 / RPX onward there is a leather (or later) plastic block under the stitch length adjuster, make sure it is is present. If not feeding make sure the "Transportkeil" (see parts list) is not popped out of place. It should "hang" in the rim of the needle bar bushing in which the needle bar is going up and down in. Just notice the the EDIT so forget it. -
Maybe this GA5-1 manual is a bit clearer - the GA5-1 is pretty much the modern version of the 45K. 06_Techsew GA5-1 manual.pdf

Maybe poor internet connection? Clear browser cache & cookies? Update browser? No issues on my end with Firefox 106.2 (just got the update)
-
Read the manual - the thread on the lower tension unit is not going between discs it is wrapped around the pulley.
-
I have two manuals in German language but not for exact this machine but they are very similar. Send me a PM with your email address please if interested.
-
If the machine works w/o removing the bushing better leave it where it is. If you break something there will be no replacements parts for these old Dürkopp patchers - or - if you find them - they will be not cheap.
-
maybe you can post some links I guess you mean GUETERMANN threads (or in german GÜTERMANN) https://guetermann.com/en/
-
You can make the aftermarket ones work. I did that a few years ago on a 29K1. You may also need the feed motion Ring if your is worn. I have compared the parts here: https://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/60554-29k1-pre-christmas-barn-find/?do=findComment&comment=390874

I found something: You have to loosen Screw D before you adjust the stitch length and tighten again when done. -
Manual for my global post bed machine

see above post, I just edited it. Maybe the parts lists help to figure the function. Or maybe the REXEL Co. can provide a manual. I´d check with them. This is from a list I downloaded
