  1. Who knows why they would want to do that but i have heard people took these parts off because of the noise the foot part made?? the model before the 89 was the one that made a louder noise i think, it was the 33 which was superseeded by the 89 around about the 1920´s, yes it does sound stupid Lol... The 45k93 was the last.....lets say....upgraded model before they changed to the 45A and 45B models, the badge on your machine is from the 1960´s i think so it should be in very good condition normally unless it has had a very hard working life. The table has given in and bent because the ones for the cylinder arm machines had a extra arm to support the machine underneath, so remember this if you make a new table top! The 53,56,89 had a lot of accessories available for them back in the day which unfortunately never seem to come with the machines people find these days?? you can see them in the parts manual, the only ones that are usually found with the machines are the material guides and sometimes the swing arm like the one on yours.
  2. Hi Oldiesfan, yes the machine is missing some parts. The 45K89 was called a kick foot machine, here is a video of one restored, if you want to see the parts you need it is best to download the parts manual and look them up. By the looks of it you are missing quite a lot of parts which are very hard to find but not impossible. By the looks of the badge your machine could be from the 1960´s but it has unfortunately been left out in the rain a long time!! With the parts missing it is equivalent to a 45k93 with a roller foot, the 93 had reverse but no roller foot and the 25 had the roller foot but no reverse???Lol....
  3. Is it sharp on the edge of the cut out?? Could it be for cutting the thread??
  4. Nice one...that´s a biggie! Lol....
  5. Thanks MsEdna, Yes i love the way it looks too after a while. You can get them at a reasonable price second hand here in Spain if you look around.... from 350 upwards but you never know what condition it is in so it could be a gamble unless you buy from a dealer and that would be 800 upwards probably?? I was lucky and got one for 400 and only needed a few new parts on it changed, the small arm for the feed roller had the pins worn away and the holes for them and the small roller shaft i replaced also. So they are things to take into consideration if you buy second hand, i was not able to see it working before buying so i took a risk.
  6. Thanks for the tip Brian, much appreciated and great to hear from you again!!
  7. Mmmm..yeah i should have creased the edges on this one I get the impression people think this is skimping or cheating or tricking people into thinking that this is all leather inside......well i would say, one day they will eventually get to this point if they do not want a BRICK in their pocket!! The reason the lining is there is to cut down bulk after the cards are put inside, not to save on leather!!
  8. Thanks MsEdna, Yes you can do it with veg tan and yes it can mark the leather, it is important that all the edges are smooth on the foot to eliminate any possibility of a line or scar. I am looking for a good roller foot, as the cheap ones have not worked well for me, to see if i can get even less marks, but what i get at the moment i can live with it. Even just the pressure of the foot can leave a mark on the veg tanned leather and the sewing machine foot also so it is not the easiest to work with for this reason. The slanted side pockets are skived around the edge, the three slit one also and the bottom corners of the separation then the outside part gets skived all around quite thin for folding, the top having a wider skive as its turns over and comes inside and the rest of the sides cover the outside. Here are some pictures of the ones i have done in horse leather and oiled calf. These are some of the marks left but are mainly pressure marks from the sewing machine. This is after 2-3 yrs use, the inside is less exposed so takes longer to darken.
  9. Yes i think you are right Arturo, someone probably would have made one by now if it was profitable. If i had the time and the money i would experiment and look for a way for sure.
  10. Maybe someone with a bell skiver could get it to 0.4, the individual pieces i mean, not a large hide? I usually thin down my gussets to about that on the skiver. This is how it ends up.
  11. Oh yes they ring a bell! I have a slotted one around somewhere but not interchangeable so very handy if you have the right size...That looks like a nice set there dikman? would be good to find them at the same price as the catalouge Lol.....1949.
  12. Yep...in the picture that is the same leather after about 1-2 years later. If you leave it out in the sun it will darken quicker! This is natural Horse leather in the picture.
  13. That´s the beauty of natural leather, it slowly changes colour....
  14. I think RockyAussie makes those bags Sheilajeanne?? I haven´t seen him on here for a while now and hope he is OK???
  15. Personally i would rather get a second hand Fortuna?? I think Japan has 100v like the US and would imagine it would have a voltage selector?? Yep i think that would eat money these changeable blades on it, the bell would still have to be adjustable?
  16. Aha that is what i thought but was not 100%?? sure Tom, good observation. Yes over this end you can find them cheaper and a bit newer but you need to hunt them down, i see over in the US they ask a lot for these old patchers?
  17. Mmmm...is that flywheel shaft bent? or is it a fish eye lens??
  18. And they have two flywheels on the 29k treadle instead of one on the normal treadles.
  19. Hi, Ask Constabulary here on the forum, i think he has a few 45k parts for sale, he might have that screw. Also Uwe here on the forum may also have some parts for sale??not sure.
  20. I have a pdf of a newer fortuna which would also apply to your old one in the way of setup and sharpening? if you want, send me your email by private message at the top of the page and i can send you a copy. What kind of feed wheel do you have on at the moment?? rubber, steel or stone? If your bush is worn then i would imagine your knife would have a lot of play/wobble?? does it have a lot of play??normally the lines will disappear when you have it sharpened well, the bevel should be continuous all the way around, and would recommend raising your stone feed wheel up to lightly touch the inside of the bell knife to take off the burrs. If it is the bush then that is obviously a case of replacing it.
