  1. My first and second tooled belt pouches, the second one falls off your belt anytime you bend, or breath... but i still like it, the depth of carving is really shallow, cause i couldn't use a mallet, we had complaints from the neighbours, after I made the first one. It took ages to make and it has sat in my leather box ever since cause it don't work as it should.... D'oh. The neighbours have moved since then, oops! and the neighbours on tother side like to see what I make, so don't complain.

Welcome Dave, Glad to see more uk'ers joining all the time!!
  3. So much has been said and I agree totally. My njickname over here as some preople joke is batman, as i rescue bats.... so from one batman to another, here is my namesake Pip (pipistrelle) and its only a pup, no fur yet. A baby bat is not something you get to see everyday, neither is such a great wallet created by a seven year old well done.
  4. Here is my latest project, worked with a few scrap bits i had from other projects. It was made for a lady who runs a local craft shop that sells my bracelets. Its my second proper stitching project. She was well pleased with it.... I am happy(ish) with it too. I need more practice with the material lining, I made a bit of a mess of it. I was intending to put an edging around the seams a la Kevin kings magnificent wallets but.... time, patience, and lack of experience conspired against me and i dropped the idea. What you can't see is that the purse has and expanding gusset between the front and back peices, in the rust/purple suede that is on the opening edge, inside the flap acting to protect the edge from wear as the hand goes in and out. I am interested in knowing what you all think! I was between posting here and the critique section, but i am quite pleased with it so posted here! Please feel free to critique, any helpful stuff readily and eagerly received. Thanks.

  11. Ah.... just what i was looking for, thanks kevin, but by hand it going to take a while.
  12. I love it, really nice clean edges, stylish and manly, more more more!!!
  13. Walnut husk (dried and crushed) in alcohol with wire wool should give you black without gives you brown, but will need straining and watch when you cut the husk it dyes everything including metal!!! Gorse flowers give a nice light yellowy green. according to my naturalist books Alder bark is supposed to give orange but all i get is slime (birch bark is better), i must be doing something wrong, beetroot works well but does darken/ lighten over time depending on finish and sunlight It gives a pink that goes browny over time. Blackberries give a bluey grey, fern fronds, a minty green and elder berries a lovely purple I can't remember which go in alcohol and which are boiled in water i will have to refresh when i find the book. It may take some time.

    Undercutting tools

thanks guys as usual everyone so helpful. Thanks for the tutorial link, and stuff on making my own tools.
  15. mmm i know what you mean and have had the same problem, but no solution sorry, tried Aaron's method which worked ok but I need more practice I think.
  16. if your using digital try a suppressed flash and tripod?! I am rubbish at photograhy but it has worked for me in the past.
  17. Well i got some, and used them and i am relatively pleased with the result but...i don't really know what I am doing and the cuts are a bit untidy in places. My question is do you depress into the leather by pushing down at an angle or straight in to the raised and bevelled piece or do i cut from side to side after initial cut in. do we have a tutorial handy ?
  18. Flowers are really difficult! I can't seem to get them even close, good job I think any fan would be happy with that. Its not the easiest design to translate onto leather cause the colours dont really lend themselves to textural shading to well. I think you done real good! Keep rockin'
